2. Plot
In our opening titles we show the sequence of events
life of a young woman called Emily to turn her into a
serial killer. We see her being abandoned as a baby,
growing up, being tormented, living in an orphanage,
and finally the end result of her being transformed into
a serial killer.
3. Gender
Woman abandoned, poor background, outcast,
becomes a serial killer. She is portrayed negatively.
In the majority of horror films women are presented as
the victim, as vulnerable people who have to be
protected by male characters. In ours the main
character does not need to be protected as she has
evolved not to but she should have been protected.
In our opening sequence the woman is the serial killer,
independent and isolated from society
4. Class and status
Our media product represents class and status to a certain
extent. Our main character comes from a disadvantaged
background, this is evident by looking at her torn and dirty
clothing. She is also very thin looking. It is arguable that this
is a negative representation of the lower class because we
could have gone against conventions by heroising her.
However it is not entirely negative either as it prompts the
audience to sympathise for her. The media often represents
the lower class as lazy, this is not the case with our title
sequence. Our character attempts to run away from the
abuse she is facing
5. Age
Age: Our character is a victim of older ones thus giving
them a negative representation. You do not see the
older characters in our sequence as we discarded “the
bully scene”
