How does your media product represent particular social groups?
1. How does your media product
represent particular social
groups?
2. Isabelle is represented as weak and naïve, this is stereotypical for
women in films. Women are seen as the weaker sex, so we
decided to put this into our film. However, at the end of the
story, the women end up being the stronger gender after
‘defeating’ the villain, which is a man. This goes against the
stereotypes.
The villain/sociopath being a male is also a stereotype. In a lot of
thriller films, the’ villain’ is usually a male. For example, in
‘Taken’, the people that abduct the girl are all male. This could be
because the male is seen as the more powerful gender.
3. Isabelle could be seen as a ‘rebellious teen’ due
to her bad relationship with her mother. This is
very typical for films in the 21st century.
She is also seen as a stereotypical college
student, this is shown by her backpack, student
ID and her dress sense.
4. Setting
Woods and Cellar
They are both dark and creepy. This is typical for
Thrillers. If the woods or the cellar weren’t dark,
there would be a different feel to it.
Home
The scene in the house has a lot of warm colours
such as orange. This suggests that it is a loving
house.
5. All of the characters are wearing some shade of red.
This is because red represents the danger.
We used this to show the idea of danger being
everywhere.
It also represents anger, this is shown through Gary. It
represent his hatred towards those that took his
daughter.
