How does your media product
represent particular social groups?
Young Children
This is the young girl in our media product, who is 7 years old.
Unlike the generic conventions, our character is evil and sinister. A young
girl of this age is usually represented a fearful, sweet and innocent
character.
However, in our media product, she is a threat towards the male
protagonist, as her presence is unknown to him,
however the audience are aware of her presence.
It is strange to have a villain as young as this, but it is unnerving to have a
child of this age to be represented as evil.
• The young female character wears an over-
sized, baggy and dirty white dress. She wears
white which connotes purity and innocence
Although, the dress is covered in dirt
suggesting a lack of innocence.
• Therefore, this alters the representation of
young children as being slightly darker and
more villainous.
The protagonist in our piece, 'Deceased Memory', is
a male adult in his mid 40's.
. Although, in our piece he is the opposite of the
generic conventions, and represents his particular
social group as being vulnerable, rather than being
seen as a powerful strong masculine figure.
Adult Males
In our piece the protagonist is shown multiple times
as being weak. In one shot he is shown looknig at a
photograph whilst the antagonist walks past in the
back ground, that fact that he does not
acknowledge her presence but the audience
do, takes him away for any position of power.
But he is also represented as brave as he
investigates the sound that come from the attic
without hesitation, this helps to show his
masculinity as he does not show fear and it shows
that one of his main strengths is his bravery.
