2. What is an expert system?
Expert systems are computer-based systems that provide
human knowledge on specific topics to answer some
specific questions, therefore they are similar to a
database of knowledge.
They contain a huge amount of information in order to
account for a wide range of possible answers.
Expert systems are based on human knowledge, and
therefore are not used to obtain new information but
rather gather a storage of information for easy access.
3. How it works
After user input, it goes through an explanation system to extract
facts for the end user. This is all done through a designed userinterface, in order to keep things easy for the user.
Throughout the process, the inference engine will use a set of logical
statements in order to find the appropriate data to output, using the
“Rules base”
Finally, the user is able to obtain the information that was enquired.
4. User interface
In order for operations to run smoothly, the user interface is an important
aspect of the expert system.
It will display questions and information on a screen and allows the user to
type in answers or questions, allowing expansion of the existing database or
finding appropriate solutions for the user.
Validation checks will be used to prevent invalid data from being submitted,
to keep data relevant and prevent overwriting of existing data.
