The software that my partner and I picked was JumpStart 5th Grade. It is a
software designed and developed by Knowledge Adventure. The topics of the software
include Math, U.S. History, English, Science and a lot more. The software is obviously
designed for Students in USA in the 5th Grade ages 11-12.
The educational content and the entertainment content is balanced because the
user will try and learn the lessons for them to finish the story and they need to
understand it in order to finish the assessment in the end of the story. The
Incorporation of learning in entertainment is hard because there should be balance on
both sides because if it is not balanced the users will either become bored or become
too excited that they will not learn anything from the software. Being able to design a
local version of this software is very effective for the students here in the Philippines
because we have a different curriculum here compared to the one in the US. most
students will benefit to this especially those who do not have enough money to study in
a good school. The use of an educational learning tool will make learning a better
experience because a lot of people today enjoy gaming.
Being able to put both entertainment and education in our design will enable us
to make more effective learning materials. For me, children today are into games and
being able to cope with their wants will help them not only in learning but also for their
entertainment.
