2. Ukraine Crisis: Russia announces ceasefire in
Ukraine and humanitarian corridors for
evacuation
 The Russian Armed Forces in Ukraine announced a ceasefire from 10.00
am on March 7, 2022, for the residents of Ukraine Capital Kyiv, Mariupol,
Sumy, Kharkiv to leave the cities.
 The news was reported by the local media citing interdepartmental
coordination headquarters for the humanitarian response in Ukraine.
 The response center said in a statement, “Given the catastrophic
humanitarian situation and its sharp aggravation in the cities of Sumy,
Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Mariupol, as well as the at the personal request of
French President Emmanuel Macron to the Russian President Vladimir
Putin, the Russian Armed forces announce ceasefire for humanitarian
purposes from 10.00 AM, March 7, 2022, and open humanitarian
corridors.”

3. Rajya Sabha Elections 2022: AK Antony,

 The biennial Rajya Sabha elections will be held for 13 seats on
March 31, 2022, as per Election Commission’s notification on
March 7th.
 The seats are spread across six states- Punjab, Kerala, Himachal
Pradesh, Assam, Tripura and Nagaland.
 In total, five Rajya Sabha seats in Punjab, three in Kerala, two in
Assam and one each in Tripura, Nagaland and Himachal Pradesh
will be up for biennial polls.

5. Mukul Arya, Indian envoy to Palestine, passes

 Ravichandran Ashwin has become India's second highest
wicket taker in Tests after Anil Kumble by taking his 435th
test wicket. He had earlier equaled Kapil Dev's record of
434 Test wickets.
 Ashwin achieved the feat when he dismissed Sri Lankan
batsman Pathum Nissanka on Day 3 of the ongoing first
Test between India and Sri Lanka at the PCA Stadium in
Mohali on March 6, 2022.
 He has now become the ninth highest wicket taker in the
history of Test cricket.
