Inspirational Shots and Mise-en-Scene

1. Camera distance- Here they have gone
for a medium shot this allows the
viewer to be able to see her facial
expressions and also hr body language
this is important as it will help generate
the mood of the song and give the
audience a feeling of what to expect
Lighting- Here we have a medium
lighting type, as it’s not too high key
but its mot low key. The
photographer has used this type of
lighting to highlight the person
nothing much else, also it is used to
get rid of any shadows that may
ruin the photo, it creates a much
softer photo.
Framing decisions/ character placement
within the frame- The singer has been
placed direct centre of the frame, filling up
all of the space of the shot this once again
allows the audience to focus only on her,
also by doing this it allows the image to be
very simplistic and show its just about her
nothing else really matters. Could link in
with her songs or her general personality.
Camera angle- This camera angle is also a
medium shot this is because we can see her
upper body and it is above the knees. Here the
background is minimalised to allow the
audience to focus on her and not get
distracted by things going on around her.
Colour use- The colour of the original image has been
changed to a black and white image, the reason as to
why they have decided to do this is as sometimes too
many colours can be distract the viewer, so by
creating it in black and white it allows them to be fully
focused in her. It also brings back a early times feel
with a modern day touch as the quality is great but it’s
in a black and white colour, it’s a contrast between
the two times. Also with the black and white it gives s
symbol of purity and innocence in her, could be saying
all though she is a pro singer she is still a young person
with a lot to learn.Costume & props- Here we have a very basic outfit, very
simplistic nothing to distracting. It also looks very
common, following modern day styles. This will be highly
to do with the audience she follows as they are likely to
wear the same things as people they follow and look up
to and also current fashion trends. These outfit could a
suggestion of the album she is releasing how it is very
simple and nothing to abstract and different. Also it can
say how she is just trying to blend in with the crowds and
doesn’t want to be noticed.
Body language- Her body language in this
image makes her look very relaxed, calm and
content, could be giving inside knowledge
about her life of how she’s no finally happy.
Also she is looking directly into the camera so
it looks like she’s looking at you and trying to
make you feel what she is. And finally it helps
create a relationship between the viewer and
her as she’s looking directly at you so you may
seem to know her more than you do.
Location choice- This is a
very simple photoshoot, it
has been took in a studio
with a plain white
background, a very simple
but very effective location.
By doing this it works well
with the black and white
filter. Also it isn’t very
distracting from the singer
in the photo.

2. Camera distance- This is quite a
common shot in music photoshoots a
medium close up, this allows the
viewer to be able to view her facial
expressions and only focus on them
and not her full body, and this is a
good tequnique as the viewer is fully
immersed in their face. Also gives the
viewer a feeling of what the mood of
the album/song is actually about.
Camera angle- This is a close up and is an
angle looking straight forward. We know this
because it is a shot of the head and has only
the head and shoulders involved. They have
tried to ignore her surroundings and only
focus on her probably due to the album is
about her and her only.
Framing decisions / character placement
within the frame- The signer has been placed
in the direct Centre of the frame, nothing else
is in the shot to show it’s about her. Also by
doing this her eye line is directly in line with
the viewers when looking at the image, they
are drawn straight to them.
Lighting- In this image we have quite low key
lighting nothing to bright and stand out, the
light is trying to enhance her face and make
her facial expressions stand out more. The
reason why they have done this is because it
helps show of the emotions she is feeling, it
helps show the audience what the songs may
be like and how they might make them feel.
Costume and props-
Here the artist is
wearing an average
look once again
nothing to
extravagant, they may
have made here wear
this to show although
she’s famous se is just
a normal person like
everyone else and still
faces everyday
problems like most
people do.
Colour use- In this image it looks like they have
made quite ordinary colours, quite beige and
bland. It looks like to me that they have tried to
emphasis the pale face, could be a sing of what has
happened or to come. Also by using quite standard
colours on the outfit and face it allows the viewer
to be fully focused on her and to be able to
feel/see the emotions she is feeling here.
Body language- We can’t really tell much of
her body language due to it being a close up
image, but her facial expressions tell us a lot
about how she is feeling, by looking at this
image we can see that she is clearly in shock
about something could relate to some of the
songs in the album. Also she looks very zoned
out and startled, maybe the fact of ow famous
she has got or something to do with her
background and what has happened in the
past. As a viewer it makes us feel intrigued and
wanting to know more so we buy the album,
so by using these types of facial expressions it
makes the viewer want to buy the album
therefore increasing sales of it.
Location choice- This once again is an image that has been took
in a studio, they have done this as it allows them to change the
colour of the backdrop, and in this case they have changed it to
a dark dull backdrop. This maybe is to show how she is feeling
as dark suggests death, heartbreak and sadness. Also they
could have picked this as it really contrasts with her face the
pale white on darkness, it helps enhance it and the viewer
won’t get distracted by what’s going on around them.

3. Camera distance- Here it is a
medium shot, this is because you
are able to see them from the waist
up. The reason as to why the
photographer has done this is
because this enables the viewer to
see their body language as well as
their facial expressions.
Camera angle- Once again it is a medium
shot, this allows the viewer to see what
the singer is doing and also the
background and what is going on, in this
case it’s just a plain background but
that’s the usual use of using this shot.
Framing decisions / character placement within the
frame- Here the singer has been placed more slightly to
the left of the fame, this shows his importance and also
the viewer notices him first. Also here Bruno is taking up
the majority of the frame this enables the viewer to
take note on what he is doing and how he’s acting here.
Costume and Props- Here Bruno is dressed in a
smart and casual look as he has the suit jacket,
shirt and tie but also has some skinny trousers in
this, the reason they have dressed him like this is
because it makes him look like he has swagger and
it helps him stand out and look better than most
people. Also he has a typical microphone in his
hand, but this is quite an old fashioned microphone
so this may suggest he has a bit of 80’s about his
new album and helps the reader think more about
his songs that he creates.
Lighting- This type of lighting is called high key
lighting, they have used this to make Bruno
stand out on the page. Also it shows he’s quite
a lively person and the type of music on his
new song, so it helps the reader understand
what he’s new song is like. Another positive of
high key lighting is that it helps to make the
singer more dynamic and helps show them off
in a way
Colour use- In this image they have gone
for very lively colours that jump out at you
and that you as a viewer will notice and
won’t ignore. Also by having these types of
colours it helps create a happy and lively
atmosphere and mood, this is important so
the viewer knows what type of song they
are trying to get across.
Body language- The body language of him here
is very dynamic as it shows him almost moving
and you get a sense of how he may perform on
stage. Also his body language shows the mood
of the song as he’s lively and dynamic not just
stood there on a dark background. Also by
adding a dynamic shot of him it makes you feel
like you want to hear the song as it helps to
intrigue the viewer. Also here his facial
expressions look like he’s really into what he’s
doing and enjoys his work which we all like to
see as a viewer.
Location choice- This is becoming a bit of a
trend now, it’s another photo that’s been done
in the studio. By doing this it allows them to
change the background and use any type, here
the background has been chosen because of
his outfit as they are all different shades of
blue. They have faded the blue out the further
to the right this helps make Bruno stand out on
the colour.

4. Camera distance- This is a medium shot, the
camera is quite far back as it needs to be
able to get the whole group in the photo. By
using this type of shot we are able to see
their body language and their facial
expressions, this is important so the viewer
is able to see how they are feeling and
guessing the feel of the overall album/song.
Camera angle- This is the same as the
camera distance, a medium shot the
angle is straight, they have done this so
the viewer can see the whole group
together and their facial expressions and
body language.
Framing decisions / character
placement within the frame- Usually in
a group shot, we have the main lead
singer at the front in the middle and
then as they work their way out from
the center they become less needed
more backup singers as such. This is
good to do as it allows the viewer to see
who the main person in this group is
and who probably keeps it together and
not fall apart.
Costume and props- Here they
have gone for very stylish and
fashionable outfits at the time of
this photo being took, this makes
them look like glamour’s people
but also normal people as they are
wearing clothes that anyone could
wear. By doing this it makes
viewers believe they can be like
them and follow their dreams. TH
props used here is only a park
bench, this has been added to
make it look very relaxed and
simple, almost like the girls use to
sing together on a bench. It also
makes it look very relaxed and
calm as usually we sit down to
relax and chill out, this maybe gives
us an insight off their song or
what’s to come.
Lighting- Here they have used very high key
lighting in the center of the shot and then
faded it out for effect, once again maybe
showing the girl in the center is the main
person here. Also by using high key lighting
it makes them all stand out and gives us an
implication that their songs won’t be bland
and dull but they will be lively and happy.
Colour use- There isn’t that much colour
here, it’s mainly on their outfits this allows
them to stand out from the rest of the set.
Also the rest of the shot is quite white and
simple, shows that they don’t need a lot of
fancy effects to be good and they prefer
just to blend in and go about their day to
day life as they do. By picking the white
colour it shows a sign of innocence and
that they are quite still young girls.
Body language- The girls
in this shot look like
there posing but are
posing in quite simple
positions they look
relaxed and chilled out,
also in this shot their
facial expressions are all
different along with their
body language could be
justifying that they
shouldn’t be known for
that band name they all
have their individuality
as well
Location choice- The
location of this photo is
once again in a studio, but
this time they have brought
the prop of a bench into the
set. By using the studio they
are able to create a
different background and
then debate which one
looks better on the image.
Also they can make it look
like they are in a actual
location and not in a studio.

5. Camera distance- This is a close up of Taylor
Swift, the reason why they have gone for this
type of shot as it means you are only focusing
on her facial expressions and allows 100%
focus on her and you won’t get distracted by
anything else as there is nothing in the
picture.
Camera angle- Close up shot done at a straight
angle this is because it allows you to see her
whole face and able to imagine what she is
actually thinking. Also by going at this angle it
shows her mood and that she’s quite happy as if it
was a lower or higher angle it can sometimes
show facial expressions of in different ways.
Framing decisions / character placement
within the frame- In this shot the
character has been placed in the center
of the shot, this is so all eyes are on her
as it is he album she is advertising here.
Also she takes up most of the room in this
shot, this is so nothing else can distract
the viewer and also so that this allows
you to see that no one else is involved
and it’s all about her.
Costume and props- In this photo of
Taylor swift we can’t really see much of
her costume a its more of a head shot,
but we can see her top is the same as
the background nothing to stand out
helps her blend, also the white
symbolises new beginnings and purity,
this could be a sign that she’s just got
out of a bad relationship or something.
Secondly the red lipstick can indicate
danger and trouble could be associated
with a song or what’s happened to her
in the past or what’s to come.
Lighting- Here we have very high key
lighting, by using this it helps to bring out
her face more and the red really does
stand out. Also they have used this type of
lighting to really go with the overall feel of
the image, it seems like there trying to
almost say she is re-born again due to it
being so light and having the white top
and background reminds us of baptism.
The lighting also helps give us a feel of
what the music may be like so in this case
it may be lively and happy.
Colour use- They haven’t really used
many different colours it seems like they
have stuck to a certain scheme of white
and red, by using less colours it has a
really nice simplistic effect on the image.
It helps to enhance the other features of
her such as her lipstick and her eyes
colour. Also isn’t too distracting and isn’t
to straining on the eyes.
Body language- We aren’t able to see her
body language but we are able to see her
facial expressions I think that’s the whole
point of this image to focus on them. By
looking at her face we see that she looks
quite curious and re-born as such. She
almost looks as if she is ready to take
revenge, this could be associated with her
past life maybe a man hasn’t treated her
very well and now she is over him she is
looking for payback.
Location choice- No surprise her they have gone
for a studio for this image, mainly because it
allows them to really enhance the lighting and are
able to create whichever background they want
to in this case they have gone for a white one.
