Does Your Favorite Pizza Topping Say Something About You?
Do you love pizza? If so, you’re among friends—many of them. In fact, 3 billion pizzas are sold in the
U.S. annually, and 94 percent of Americans eat pizza regularly.
While this may not come as a shock, you may be surprised to find
that your favorite pizza topping says more about you than just
your food preferences. The Smell & Taste Treatment and Research
Foundation conducted a study and found that certain personality
types tend to group together when it comes to preferred pizza
toppings. What does your pizza topping say about you?
If all you want is vegetables piled on your pie, your pizza topping group is known for reliability,
trustworthiness, and loyalty. Many veggie-lovers, asserts the study, value friendship more than
anything else and are humble and reserved, yet perform very well in group settings.
Additionally, those who prefer just one vegetable are often easy-going and empathetic.
If you’re partial to meat—and lots of it—you may be an extrovert who tends toward
dramatics. You likely have a keen fashion sense, and you may find yourself always striving for
something new and interesting to learn or see (or wear). You’re also part of a large majority—
67 percent of respondents preferred meat and cheese on their pizzas, while the rest opted for
vegetables and cheese. Additionally, many—that is, 60 percent—go by the principle of “the
more toppings, the better.”
If you like pepperoni—and only pepperoni—you are far from alone: pepperoni, along with
sausage and green pepper, ranks among the most popular pizza toppings. However, many who
choose just pepperoni on their pie can be short-tempered and quarrelsome. They also may
tend towards procrastination and “forgetfulness” when it comes to completing a task at hand.
If you go for pineapple or onion, you’re likely a non-traditionalist. This may mean you’re a born
leader with a zero-tolerance policy for nonsense. Always striving for the next goal, you may
come off as aggressive, but you command respect regardless.

According to the study, nearly two-thirds of the study’s respondents fully agreed that topping choice
correlates with personality traits. One certain truth is that Americans truly have a passion for pizza.
