July 19, 2017 is National Hot Dog Day! The National Hot Dog and Sausage Council (NHDSC)
created the day in 1991 to honor this all-American dish. According to the NHDSC, the
proper way to eat a hot dog is to finish it in five bites. Also, NEVER put hot dog toppings
between the hot dog and the bun; "dress the dog”, not the bun.
We wanted to know what else Americans had to say about their love of hot dogs.

Interviews for this study were conducted on the SSRS Omnibus from July 5 – 9 2017, among a
nationally representative sample of 1,020 respondents age 18 and older. The margin of error
for total respondents is +/-3 percentage points at the 95% confidence level.
The SSRS Omnibus is a national, weekly, dual-frame bilingual telephone survey. Each weekly
wave of SSRS Omnibus consists of 1,000 interviews, of which 600 are obtained with respondents
on their cellphones, and a minimum of 35 interviews completed in Spanish. Sample provided by
