2. What are the techniques of picture
recognition?
The part of this listening section consists of two different models of
questions. In the first type, there will be shown a picture followed
by five statements read by the narrator. The examinees are
requested to choose one of the five statements which are suitable
to the picture.
In the second type, there will be a set of pictures and examinees
are asked to choose one picture which is suitable to the monolog or
description by the narrator.

• Similar sounds problems
Walk/work, clean/clear, bike/hike, low/row, down/dawn
• Meaning problems; identification, opposites

5. Tips to improve the listening skill of picture
recognition
• 1. Pay attention to the pictures before listening to the questions;
a. Who and/or what are they in the picture? (profession/role)
b. Where are they /where is it
c. What are the people doing
d. What is the body language (facial expression, gestures)
• 2. Pay attention to the words’ accentuation, those words are usually
important
• 3. Practice listening to the authentic speech
• 4. Rehearse describing picture frequently
• 5. Listen carefully to each statements related to the pictures
6. Example
You will hear:
• (A) There is only one rescue vehicle in the picture.
• (B) One of the buildings in the picture is on fire.
• (C) A large crowd is watching the rescue efforts.
• (D) There are two people trapped in the car.
• Statement (A), "There is only one rescue vehicle in the picture," is the best description of the
picture, so you should click on answer (A).

you will hear five short statements then choose one of them that
