2. In this part of the test you’re going to do something together. Here are
some pictures which show things that influence young people.
First, I’d like you to look at pictures * and * and discuss what the
relationship between these people might be and what might have
happened before these pictures were taken. You have about a
minute for this. (2 minutes for groups of three)
Now look at all the pictures.
These pictures suggest different ways in which young people are
influenced by the world around them.
Talk together about whether each picture suggests a positive or a
negative influence. Then decide which represents the strongest
influence of all.
You have about three minutes for this. (4 minutes for groups of three)

4. In this part of the test you’re going to do something together. Here are
some pictures which show various means of transport.
First, I’d like you to look at pictures * and * and discuss why you think
these situations have arisen and how the people are feeling. You
have about a minute for this. (2 minutes for groups of three)
Now look at all the pictures.
An environmental organisation is publishing a book which will highlight
the need for good public transport systems in the world’s largest cities as
a way of reducing pollution. These photographs have all been suggested
for the front cover.
Talk together about the environmental and practical issues raised
by each of the photographs. Then decide which would make the
most appropriate cover for the book.
You have about three minutes for this. (4 minutes for groups of three)

6. In this part of the test you’re going to do something together. Here are
some pictures which show images connected with student life.
First, I’d like you to look at pictures * and * and discuss how the
objects in the pictures relate to young people who leave home to
go away and study. You have about a minute for this. (2 minutes for
groups of three)
Now look at all the pictures.
A bank has been using Picture A in its advertising leaflets aimed at
encouraging students to open bank accounts. The bank is now planning a
new leaflet and is looking for two new images.
Talk together about how effective each of these images would be in
attracting young clients. Then decide which two the bank should
use in its leaflets.
You have about three minutes for this. (4 minutes for groups of three)

some pictures which show different faces.
First, I’d like you to look at pictures * and * and discuss how these
photographs make you feel and what you think they represent.

Now look at all the pictures.
These photographs have all been entered for a competition on the theme
of facial expressions.
Talk together about the type of facial expression captured in each
photograph, saying how well the photographer has caught the
person’s mood or character in each case. Then decide which
photographs should win first, second and third prizes.

some pictures which show various promotional images.
First, I’d like you to look at pictures * and * and discuss how these
pictures make you feel and what you think they represent. You
have about a minute for this. (2 minutes for groups of three)
Now look at all the pictures.
A large company is running a training course in decision-making skills for
its employees and needs a striking image to put on a poster publicising
the course.
Talk together about how each of these images relates to the idea of
decision-making. Then decide which one would be the most
effective on the poster.

people might be thinking. You have about a minute for this. (2 minutes

Now look at all the pictures.
I’d like you to imagine that an insurance company has decided to
produce a magazine which will be circulated internally, inside the
company.
Talk together about the way these pictures might reflect the work and
image of the insurance company. Then decide which ones to choose for
the front cover of the first and second editions of this company
magazine.
You have about three minutes for this. (4 minutes for groups of three)

14. In this part of the test you’re going to do something together. Here are
some pictures which show pressures at work.
First, I’d like you to look at pictures * and * and discuss how the people
in the pictures might be feeling about their work. You have about a
minute for this. (2 minutes for groups of three)
Now look at all the pictures.
I’d like you to imagine that a health organization is planning a
conference programme about pressures at work.
Talk together about what aspects of pressure at work are represented
in the pictures. Two of these issues will have to be excluded from the
conference programme because of lack of time. Decide which two to
exclude.
