- built from 1825 – 1828 in the style of classizism
on top of the city hall`s tower there is an over 3 – metre high statue of the
Greek goddess THEMIS (goddess of justice), called „Gette“
13. Friedrich Solle was born in Dorndorf near Jena on 2nd
February 1807.
His father was a potter who taught him playing the violin.
When Friedrich was a little boy he loved music a lot. He
played several instruments and sang in a childrens`
choir.
In 1821 he started studying in Weimar to become a teacher.
He was said to be a good and modest student who enjoyed
being in the nature very much.
In 1835 he applied as a leader of a choir and teacher at a
boys` school in Zeulenroda and was chosen out of 22
candidates.
In 1847 he had built the first sports ground in Zeulenroda
and taught the boys gymnastics and PE.
In 1871 most Zeulenroda citizens wanted him to be mayor,
but he resigned.
In 1876 Solle was named honour citizen of the town.
Later on he retired from the public life and died on
December 5th, 1884.
