2.  Destination Viking Association has been appointed by
the Council of Europe to manage the Viking Cultural
Route.

4.  The Route is a traceable and identifiable non-lineal
journey through the Viking world. The borderless
Route encourages the exchange of stories, ideas and
travel between shared Viking roots.

5.  Destination Viking is a concept for
travel experience. Partners from a
number of countries in Europe have
come together to develop a borderless
tourism destination focusing on the
Viking world.
 The Destination Viking Association
is also running a number of projects
to develop Viking destination
concepts and quality in Europe.

6. The name Viking came
from the
Scandinavians
themselves, from the
Old Norse word "vik"
(bay or creek) which
formed the root of
"vikingr" (pirate).

7.  The goal for this section is to present a market calender
for all of Europe's Festivals and markets.
The objective of the
Follow the Vikings
project is to make the
transnational Viking
heritage accessible and
understandable to a
world-wide audience.

9. Ukranenland is an archeological
village-museum in Torgelow,
north-east Germany. The name
comes from an old Slavic tribe,
the Ukri. The Slavic settlement
from the 9th to 10th century was
reconstructed with its bricks,
planks and houses according to
archaeological findings in full
scale.

10. Three Museums in the Viking Triangle situated in the heart of
Ireland’s oldest city. Three museums within a few paces of each
other tell the 1100 year old story of Waterford from its
foundation in 914 by Viking sea pirates.

11. Stiklestad is a great place to see and experience history.
Most famous is the largest and the oldest outdoor theater
"Spelet om Heilage Olav/The play about St Olav,". During
the summer there are daily adventures for young and old. In
medieval farm Stiklastadir you can step back 1,000 years in
time.

12. The Viking Ship Museum in
Roskilde is the Danish museum
for ships, seafaring and
boatbuilding culture in ancient
and medieval times.

13. May 8, The International Viking Day
This day was celebrated and commemorated with Viking
Activities worldwide. Going forward, a new story of
the Viking sagas was presented and published 02:00
pm on this day and every year from now on.
