“Work that deprives children of their
childhood, their potential and their dignity
and that is harmful to their physical and
mental development “
A Fact...
Pakistan is among the top ten countries
facing child labour isssue.
children below 5-15 in Pakistan are above 40
million.
According to research 2.7 million children
are working in agriculture sector.
73% of them are boys and rest are girls.
Causes Of Child Labour
Poverty
Poverty is the basic reason and driving
force that compels the children to work like
labours and earn a little money at the end
of the day. The basic financial condions
urge them to do so.
Unemployment of parents
Due to unemployment it becomes
compulsion for parents to send their
children for work to meet expenses.
There are cases seen in which children are
put to child labour for repayment of their
father's dept.
Overpopulation
There is trend in villages to have more
number of children and thus after this they
put their children to work to meet basic
needs.
Due to explosive number of population
Pakisani government also could not meet to
provide basic needs to all individuals.
Traditional Profession
Most of the time children are forced to
follow the footprints of their elders and
parents them in work from very early
stages.
They only learn parental skills and their
creativity of mind is pressed so they do
not adopt new skills.
Parental illiteracy
Most of the parents in Pakistan are uneducated
and due this they don't understand the
imporantance of education and put their children
to work.
Literacy rate of Pakistan is:
 Male:70%
 Female:48%
Failure of Law
Another big cause of child labour in Pakistan
is the failure of government in practicing laws
agains child labour.
There are many Laws available in the
consititution of Pakistan and at provincial
level but still there is no implementation.
Areas of Child Labour
Agriculture
Automobile Workshop
Industries
Bricks Kiln
Agriculture Work
Since Pakistan is an agricultural country
and 70% of child laboureres work in the
fields to earn living.
As children work in scorching heat , deal
with different climatic conditions and are
exposed to toxic pesticides , its affect their
mental and physicl health greatly.
Automobile Workshop
 According to research in an automobile workshop of 150
peoples about 120 of them are children and they work
there all the day long.
 This hinders them from education and causes many skin
and lungs infections as they deals with different lubricants
without safty measures.
Industries
About 37% of boys and 22% of girls used
to work in different kinds of industries in
Pakistan.
Dealing with mchines causes injuries and
working for long time make them tired and
weak.
Bricks Kiln
According to PLD survey about 126780
children were found to be working at these
sites.
This causes them to leave education and
working in harsh environment make them
sick and physically weak.
Case Study
Some Results
SUGGESTIONS
Awareness must be raised and parents must
pay attention to educate their children.
Laws against child labour should be
practiced by government strictly.
Government shoud provide free education
to those who could not afford expenses.
Pakistan's Effort
The Employee Children Act,1991
The Bonded Labour Abolition Act,1992
Punjab Compulsary Education Act, 1994
Now government provide books and some
budgets at primary level which make
children to study easily.
Conclusion
Child labour is not the choice of children
and their parents as well but their
circumstances forced them to do so.We
should not take benifit of their
compulsions.Government should take
initiative and provide them basic
oppertunities and in this way we can get rid
of this crise in Pakistan.
