10. TSA intercept record number of firearms in 2015
Thursday, January 21, 2016
“WASHINGTON — In 2015, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers intercepted 2,653 firearms in
carry-on bags at airport security checkpoints across the United States. This is nearly 20 percent more than in
the previous record-setting year. In 2014, TSA officers discovered 2,212 firearms in carry-on bags.
In addition to intercepting a record number of firearms, TSA continued to enhance its security protocols in 2015
through the use of state-of-the-art technologies, improved passenger identification techniques, and best
practices to strengthen transportation security across all modes of transportation. This led to several
accomplishments, including:
• TSA screened more than 708 million passengers in 2015 (more than 1.9 million per day), which is 40.7 million
more passengers than in 2014.
• TSA screened more than 432 million checked bags, more than 1.6 billion carry-on bags and 12.9 million airport
employees.
• Nationwide, 98 percent of passengers waited in line less than 20 minutes and more than 99 percent of TSA
Pre✓® passengers waited less than five minutes.
Of the 2,653 firearms discovered in carry-on bags at checkpoints across the country, 2,198 (82.8 percent) were
loaded. Firearms were intercepted at 236 airports; 12 more airports than last year.
The airports with the most firearm discoveries in 2015 were:
• Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport: 153
• Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport: 144
• Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport: 100
• Denver International Airport: 90
• Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport: 73” Source: TSA, 2016

Checkpoint Security and Risk-Based Security
• There are more than 800 advanced imaging technology machines with privacy protecting software at airports
nationwide
• In 2016, officers detected approximately 3,391 firearms at airport checkpoints, averaging nine firearms per day
• TSA conducts over 12,000 assessments a year to improve hands on training with transportation security officers
Multi-modal Security Efforts
• TSA secures the United States transportation network which connects cities, manufacturers and retailers through:
» More than 4 million miles of roadways
» More than 140,000 miles of railroad track

14. Facing the challenge
• Regulations
improvement to
facilitate the free trade
• Use global security
standards to increase
the speed of trade
agreements and free
flow of goods
• Security in two
dimensions: Safety
flights and improve
the customer
experience
• High technology for
check points
• Lowest training access
(Brazil is a continent),
more technological
equipment to keep high
standards
• Think airports as a
systems chain: the chain
will be stronger as its
strongest part
• New technologies to
expedite the speed in
the check points,
improving the
customer experience
and reduce the
operational cost
• Security mindset
should be presented
much earlier than the
check point: mobile
GPS monitoring, face
recognition, suspicions
actions

15. People, Process & Training
PEOPLE & TRAINIG
PROCESS
• Contract services instead of acquire products, in order to have clean SLAs,
continuous software upgrades, and hardware replacement by the end of the
contract
• Full service providers, instead of acquire parts
• Avoid difficulties to integrate the solutions
• Better solution scale
• One stop point to manage the solution, instead of multiple
suppliers
• Scalable solutions in order to grow with the Airport demand

HI-SCAN 6040-2is - Dual-View X-ray Inspection For Hand Luggage
Feature highlights:
• Compact footprint
• Steel penetration of 35mm
• Flexible design for easier installation
•Increased throughput
• Operator friendly interface
The HI-SCAN 6040-2is is an advanced dual-view X-ray inspection system for automatic explosive detection at
checkpoints where bags and personal belongings are screened to protect society. It utilises proven Heimann
X-ray technology to automatically detect explosive materials and generate reliable, high quality dual-view
images.
This X-ray system presents a modern, ergonomic design that provides a user friendly interface to make it
easier for the operator to identify threats and dangerous or illegal objects, on screen. Its compact footprint
means the HI-SCAN 6040-2is can be installed in areas with restricted space, providing operators with various
options to meet their configuration requirements to ensure reliable, efficient throughput of hand luggage.

eqo - Revolutionising people screening with automatic detection
Feature highlights:
• ECAC Standard 2 certified people screening product
• Automatic detection - full privacy solution
• Multi material detection - metals, ceramics, plastics, liquids, etc.
• Operational cost savings - less staffing, infrastructure, training
• Increased throughput with faster processing time
• Minimal footprint - allows for easy checkpoint integration
• Does not requires CNEN licence
eqo is an innovative solution to people screening. Using its unique flat-panel millimetre-wave technology to
detect concealed threat objects, this people screening system operates within a minimal footprint.
Automated detection provides full privacy for the person being screened with a generic graphical
representation of the person being presented to the operator. The system software indicates concealed
objects with a marker on the appropriate part of the graphical display.

23. Conclusions
• Global trade demands more and more regulations. Being prepared to follow a
global standard will facilitate our free trade flow
• Brazil Airport ecosystem has a huge challenge ahead, (attend the demand
with better efficiency) in order to prepare our infrastructure to a new jump in
security and processes
• This leap must be made by technology, process and people:
• Full services, not parts acquisitions, providing superior services and
update technology
• One stop shopping in order to gain scale, be more competitive
• New technologies (dual view, automatically treats identification, MMW) to
expedite the customer process, and increase experience
