What is Certification? Type Test Report vs Product Approval Certificate
A key part of certification is to ensure that the claims of conformity made by cable manufacturers about their cable
are valid. The various cable standards refer to many supporting material standards, specifications and defined test
methods. The role of a third party testing is to verify that the design, electrical, mechanical, material properties of
cable at a ‘given time’, as well as any specialist performance needs, for reaction to chemicals or fire. A test report is
issued to verify the cable meets the necessary requirements (type tests). The role of a third party approval is to
certify the ‘on-going’ factory production control and quality management systems to ensure cables consistently
meet the performance requirements. A certificate is issued and valid for 3 years subject to ongoing compliance.
