5. Rekacekap Sdn. Bhd. is a consulting engineering company founded by IR S. Y.
Kong. He started this company in 1996, but it only began operating in 1999. Pe-
runding Rekacekap has worked with well-known developoers and contractors
such as Sime Darby, TTDI and IOI properties. There are three directors in this
company including IR Kong himself. Perunding Rekacekap Sdn. Bhd. has worked
with a wide range of buildings, but majority of the projects are condominiums and
housing areas. Some of the company’s well-known projects include TTDI LAND in
Amansari, KL Women and Child Hospital and Cheras Heights Condominium.

9. IR S.Y. Kong graduated from Uni-
versity Malaya in 1990 and has been
working as a civil and structural
engineer for about 26 years since. He
has worked as a junior engineer for 3
years and another 7 years as a senior
engineer.
“What I did as a junior engineer
was to learn from others and try to
get involved in every project, but it
depends on one’s capabilities. As a
senior engineer, I had more oppor-
tunities to handle big projects. I was
involved in the design phases and I
also had the ability to assign work to
junior engineers as well as solving
the problems that occurred in site.”
Ir. Kong achieved his IR title 5 years
after he graduated from university.
Now, he is one of the directors of
Perunding Rekacekap Sdn. Bhd.
When we asked him what his great-
est achievement in his career was, he
answered with a shy grin, “Achieve-
ment? I don’t have one. But seeing
buildings that were designed by me
gives me a great sense of accom-
plishment. I am very proud of them
as I have put my heart and soul into
those building constructions. Also,
I always recall the good memories
during the construction with the
clients and contractors.”
10. JUNIOR PROJECT

After graduating, Mr. Kong
played his trade as a junior engi-
neer for 3 years. One of the early
projects he handled during the
this time was the Swiss Garden
Hotel. The Swiss Garden Hotel
Kuala Lumpur is located in the
heart of Kuala Lumpur between
Bukit Bintang and Chinatown.
The Swiss Garden Hotel was his
first project as a junior engineer
in the company, his roles and re-
sponsibilities then were designing
elements, drafting, conducting
technical meetings and figuring
technical output. He did as much
as he could to gain exposure
and to find opportunities in the
construction industry as a fresh
graduate.

SENIOR PROJECT

One of the main projects that
IR Kong handles currently is the
Women And Children Building
that is set to be completed by
the end of 2016. The 848 million
ringgit project will be housing an
additional 600 people when its
completed.
In this project, IR Kong works as
a director, he delegates work and
ensures that everybody does a
specific task so that every part is
well organised and set to be com-
pleted by the set dateline. IR Kong
also has to go to the site frequently
to ensure that everything is okay
and solve on site problems if any
should occur. After that he has to
compile all of the work and write a
report for the client as prove of the
work done.
12. What are the challenges faced by IR Kong?
As the owner of Perunding Rekacekap Sdn. Bhd., IR Kong has to ensure the
continuation of the company. The company also depend on others to obtain
projects. They need to ensure there are enough manpower when there are
too many projects or if a project is too large.
How does IR Kong manage his time?
IR Kong manages time by delegating projects to the juniors and also the
seniors. He also plans his work beforehand and has a positive attitude.
What does Mr.Kong feel about his work?
Mr. Kong says that he has no regrets. Although it is tough due to carrying a
lot of responsibilities, he says that one can have a comfortable life as long as
they are dedicated and hardworking.
What are some advice from IR Kong?
Treat whatever you do as an achievement.
The project must be able to go or else there is no purpose.
Follow the client and solve problems. Clients happiness is you happiness
