Speech On Safety Of Students And Teachers
The Safety of Students and Teachers All around the world thousands of people are dying from
selfless acts of terrorists along with misunderstood children taking their lives along with the people
around them in their school. In one school police took 20 minutes to show up to the scene, why not
have this be stopped sooner? What can we do about this situation to make it better? Armed guards
should be placed in all schools around the world. First off, school shootings and threats are
becoming more and more common in schools around the world. Many children and teachers are
being shot, many dying and others with very serious injuries when they have done nothing wrong.
Wayne LaPierre from U.S. News states "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good
guy with a gun." I find this statement true because most people that have a gun and see a police
officer with a gun will get rid of theirs because they fear the outcome. Secondly, the armed guards
are only told to use their weapons in situations like school shootings. Some parents and other
citizens are fearing that the armed guards are using their weapons to threaten the students and scare
them. Mo Canady, Executive director of the National Association of school resource officers stated
"We're not talking about officers walking around with this strapped on all day long, but certainly to
have reasonable access to defend against a really bad situation" This quote proves that officers aren't
using the weapons

The superintendents of schools are the top executives in a school district. This position is one of the
most prominent positions in an educational community. Because of this, school superintendents
must be an outstanding citizen and a person of excellent character. Moreover, they must be able to
communicate effectively with parents, community, and all stakeholders. Superintendents are
responsible for leading every function for a school. With this title comes great responsibility.

And so, the aim of accountability systems is to provide incentives to encourage student to achieve at
high levels and set clear goals for student performance.
Every Student Succeeds Act, was signed into law in 2015 and is replacing the No Child Left Behind
Act. ESSA is a system that gives states more flexibility as it relates to funding, assessment and
accountability. Moreover, there are many positive components to ESSA that will help a
superintendent be effective in their position. One positive concept of the ESSA accountability
system is that it will utilize the federal and state standards by merging them into one while the
efficiency is analyzed. In addition to this, ESSA ended the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
requirement that was designed Under the No Child Left Behind Law while allowing states to
eliminate unnecessary assessments. According to (Feagan, 2009), AYP was defined during this time
as a stronger accountability measure. It was the only accountability system used to determine if
schools were successful. This law made it difficult for superintendents to effectively move schools
because AYP looked at individual subgroups in addition to individual groups. And so, if a
superintendent was the leader of a district that had a high poverty rate, the test results in many cases
were lower (2009.) Thus, making it

Superintendent Hayashi Change
Deputy Superintendent Hayashi challenged the leaders to "Embrace change as an opportunity,"
however, change is challenging because it requires changing people's behavior. In Switch, the
authors share the following three–part framework to guide us in situation where we need to change
behavior: Direct the Rider, Motivate the Elephant, and Shape the Path.
In today's presentation, Deputy Superintendent shared examples of changes at Waipahu High School
to prepare the students for college, career, and citizenship. First, there was an Elephant problem. To
improve student learning, there was a sense of urgency to change the systemic stereotypical image
of Waipahu students and school. As a principal, he created common experiences for the faculty to
affect their values and beliefs to change their perception of the students. Together, the faculty
answered the questions "What do we believe and value and what do we believe about our students,
our community, and ourselves?" The discussion engaged and motivated the teachers' emotions of
their moral purpose as educators. The discussion, reflection, and collaboration also built a positive,
trusting relationship with each other and set high expectation for all the students. Also, throughout
the transformation, the school ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay about Mgmt 591 Woodson Coalition Week 3 Case Study 1
Part 1: Group Development The genesis and growth of a group always goes through five stages:
forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. Forming is always the first stage, where
the group members meet for the first time and roles as well as structure and purpose are not firmly
established. This stage closes when the individuals label themselves as a group. Appropriately
named, the storming stage is defined by intragroup conflict in the areas of limited autonomy and
leadership, and is a critical in group development. The resolution of this stage comes with a visible
leader along with rankings of group members. After the dust has settled, the norming stage begins

The three organizations must come to an understanding on the issues presented first before
commencing on creating the after–school program.
The secondary problem encountered in this case is the diversity among the students and parents,
school officials, NCPIE officials, and Woodson officials. We see that diversity is a very important
part in forming the coalition, as the student population is a mix of African American, Caucasians and
Hispanics. While the NCPIE is representative of students in Washington, D.C., the Woodson
Foundation is located in Virginia and is composed of mainly Caucasian professionals. There are
cultural, demographic, racial, ethnic, and location concerns that need to be taken into consideration
when forming an effective team.
Part 3: Retrospective Evaluation Although the differences in the ways and means vary among the
organizations, there are shared common goals – meeting the needs of the students which consists
primarily of learning, and engaging the parents participation in the school system. These goals
should be at the forefront of every major decision while asking "Does this decision help the
students?"
Leaders of this coalition need to be selected from a pool of candidates. The best way to equally
represent all the organizations and their influence in the process is to choose a candidate from each
organization. Criteria for these leaders should include situation–specific experience, openness to
input, a high

A New Superintendent Of An Urban School District Essay
1. Issue
A new superintendent in an urban school district believes educators are trained to run schools and
should do so with the least amount of interference possible. For this reason, an ethical crisis arises
when the district decides whether or not to close a local high school. While public relations officers
want district administration to be as transparent as possible to remain honest and open, the
superintendent and other schoolboard members want to hold meetings with no media present. This
facts of this case will become clear through explication.
2. Relevant Facts:
This scenario takes place in a school district with 40 schools and 35,000 students. Its superintendent
accepted a state–level position and was subsequently replaced. As families move to the suburbs, the
district financially struggles to keep all four of its high schools open and considers closing one. The
schoolboard approached the idea previously but faced backlash. Thus, administrators now try to
resolve the problem behind closed doors. The superintendent and the schoolboard's members has
held more than one meeting about closing the school without media or members of the public
present. During one of these meetings, the superintendent stated, "If any reporters show up, I will
change the subject." Although a public relations officer was appalled, at this point he said nothing.
Nevertheless, shortly after the meeting, some high schools principals began to spread news, and the
administration responded

Evaluation And Assessment Of Special Education
When working in the field of special education, one must become intimately familiar with
evaluations and assessments. Any individualized education plan worth its salt is laden with proposed
or completed data from evaluations and/or assessments both summative and formative. Which I
believe is a vital piece to every individualized plan in special education that successfully removes
the access barriers confronting students and allowing them the greatest academic potential. Yet in
the past when it came to teacher evaluations, I have had an extreme bias in believing they had any
worth or value at all. I felt this was a bureaucratic evil that only increased the anxiety level of
individuals attempting to do their finest with students. At best, ... Show more content on

Even more frustration comes in because I feel like my students would have been greatly impacted if
I had administrators that actually believed positively in the evaluation system and used it to support
the building of effective teaching practices. With this all said I do not desire to point the finger or
cast stones at those individuals that gave me the privilege of working in this wonderful profession.
But through them I have learned how powerful it is to have a vision, be able to articulate it, and
implement said vision by doing the "right work" (Marzano, Waters and McNulty 76).
The implementation of SB 290 came at a time of transition for my district. The superintendent, who
was in his fourth year, had the entire district working on developing and aligning essential outcomes
though newly formed professional learning communities when SB 290 came to fruition. Every
teacher was being told that we knew what was best for our students, so work together and decided
on what we think is essential for our students to learn. On top of that, we were being told to use
proficiencies to determine if our students were learning and expected to develop these proficiencies
along with common formative assessments. We were directed to do this work inside the bubble of
our newly formed PLC's. I should also mention that our superintendent had a low value for outside
professional development, so the only training that came during this time

A necessity for a school system devoted to sustained improvement of the teaching and learning
process is the creation of a comprehensive school improvement plan. The benefit of such a plan is
that it provides quality control, internal conformity, communication linkages and financial assistance
necessary for ensuring sustained improvement towards meeting the school district's vision, mission
and goals. The improvement plan selected will focus on student writing skills. This plan will reflect
the data and research necessary for successful implementation and will be linked to the Nebo School
district's mission and vision, specifically Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC)

Essay On Life Of A Superintendent
Life of a Superintendent
Taking care of a golf course is a great field to go into because supervisors get the winter months off,
they only need two years of college minimum, have to be a good supervisor for the crew members,
and they have to be self motivated to be a golf course superintendent.
There is a bunch of things that superintendents do. One thing they do is mow. Now on a golf course
there is a lot of grass and it has to be maintained to a certain height. The greens are mowed lower
than the fairways and the rough. Mowing is a crucial point of a golf course because that will
determine the greens rolling speed and nobody likes slow greens. The greens are the part where the

watering is a the biggest part of watering. If there is dry spots or anything looking funky out there
then they grab a hose and start hand watering. Spraying is the biggest part of a golf course. If the
superintendent doesn't spray then say goodbye to it. They spray pesticides, herbicides, and
fungicide. Pesticides will kill any kind of pest that is on a golf course. A couple of examples of
pesticides to be found are grubs, worms and ants. Herbicides is used to kill weeds and if they apply
to much to an area you could also kill grass. There is a ton a weeds out there but the old chemicals
are not doing the trick anymore just because the weeds are prone to it and it just won't die out.
Scientist are working on making new formulations to make sure they won't be prone to it anymore
and will die. Fungicides are used for diseases and can be sprayed at a preventative rate or curative
rate. The two most common diseases on a golf course are dollar spot and brown patch. Dollar spot
are like quarter size brown spots that can be found on fairways and greens. It feeds off of water and
will start to expand if not treated right away. Brown patch is a circle and will be brown but leave the
green turf in the middle and it will die if not treated.
The working environment on a golf course is dangerous and also can be nice. The dangerous side of
it is that they are outside all the time and the people working could be a long ways from

Compare And Contrast Superintendent And School Board...
Superintendent and School Board Relationships Simple arithmetic is not an easy task. Just like some
students have difficulties with basic mathematics skills, so does the Superintendent. This is not to
say that the Superintendent cannot do basic math. What this is really comparing is the challenging
undertaking involved in counting four out of seven votes in favor of the Superintendent 's
recommendations. Swaying back and forth for Board votes is timely and very hard to accomplish,
but it is an essential part of the job. Sharp and Walter (2004) explain board members have no
authority as individuals. However, together or as a majority they can be extremely powerful in
making policy. Longer tenures and more efficient working ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Along the same lines, it is important that when individual board members request information it is
sent to every single member. Otherwise, the Superintendent gives up the opportunity to understand
from where each board member is coming (Effective Superintendent–School Board Relations). This
to some extent could be used as informational leverage, which could help down the line when trying
to sway support. Keeping records on request is also considered very helpful when working with
Boards. It is important that they stay informed, but it is also just as valuable that they get some
feedback as to how much information they are requesting. They may tend to back off from
requesting so much information. Regardless as to how and how often, the Superintendent must
establish a communication system. Boards do not like surprises. It undermines board members '
trust, and makes them look bad, when they hear information about the district from another source
(Effective Superintendent–School Board Relations). Getting the Boards trust can assist in creating a
team concept. In any relationship, whether it is at home or work trust is essential for success. Trust
is fundamental to all working relationships. Superintendents must be able to develop trust so that all
members feel united in working toward a common goal. Many times, the demise of a
Superintendent–School Board relationship can

The Importance Of Digital Citizenship In Education
Today's students and teachers live In a digital age, where an explosion of digital tools and
information are available to anyone with online access. One one hand, it represents unprecedented
access to information, communication, creating and sharing. Today's students go online to
accomplish many activities. With this power, comes the responsibility for teachers to impart to
students the principles of digital citizenship. Digital citizenship teaches students how to operate
safely ethically online while acting respectful to others online. Respect online also extends to
respecting "fair use" and copyright guidelines. To be good digital citizens, students need to
understand the good citizenship rules. However, to be truly responsible and effective digital citizens,
digital literacy is crucial. Students who are good digital citizens will have background to avoid
plagiarism and to respect copyright and intellectual property rights. Teaching Digital citizenship
principles teach students to respect others online. Good digital citizenship and cyberbullying are
incompatible. Since digital citizenship principals teach students principles that discourage
borrowing online material without proper attribution and dictates that digital devices are not to be
used for bullying and online harassment, teaching digital citizenship in schools is an important to
both discouraging cyber bullying and plagiarizing. Plagiarizing, simply defined is taking the work of

REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE
Introduction
Preparing teachers, principals and superintendents has been the responsibility of schools of
education across the United States. Once they have completed their preparation these educators must
tackle the challenge of educating America's youth. Education is still a major factor in the social,
psychological, and financial development of one individual; it determines the difference between a
life fully lived and a life only dreamed of while opportunity passes by. The role of the
superintendent today serves many roles; the main function of the position is leadership. The
superintendent as the top executive of a given school district, including a group of schools affiliated
with the public school system. A direct connection exists between the superintendent and the school
board that he or she serves. A superintendent reports to the local school board, typically a group of
elected officials set to manage and organize the schools in that particular geographical area. The
main responsibility of the superintendent is to make sure that the schools under his or her
jurisdiction stay within budgetary constraints and provide an effective learning community for all
children within his or her district. Under the directive of the school board the superintendent
implements directives, manages the hiring of teaching staff, and oversees disciplinary actions that
deal with the student body as a whole. With the school board the superintendent maps out the

Why I Want To Be An Assistant Superintendent
Career and Leadership Goals The ultimate career position that I would like to acquire is to become

qualities of a dictator, or as dominant, being ever one to take charge. He seemed to gain little

P1 : The Need For Discipline
Introduction For any public service to work effectively the members of these services must be
efficient. They must be disciplined as this is a large part of the uniformed public services. It is very
important as if members are disciplined and self–disciplined they have will affect the members own
performance and their services professionalism and efficiency in a positive way and vice versa. P1:
The need for discipline What is discipline? Discipline is basically calm and controlled behaviour. It
is when rules and boundaries are put in place and if those rules are broken then punishments are
given to correct disobedience and to enforce discipline. By being disciplined it should also improve
someone's morale. It is about changing behaviour. For example, in the Army you have haircuts
before joining; you sign a military contract etc. When somebody knows their boundaries and rules
they develop a moral code. This means they'll learn the difference from right and wrong and will
also learn what's expected of them. If no one tells you then you don't know the difference. Therefore
if someone's not disciplined then they are harder to train. For example, in the Army all officers have
to have discipline in order to tell other soldiers what to do and for them to do it properly. In all
public services the importance of having discipline is very high. Discipline is 'The practice of
training people to obey rules or a code of behaviour'. – Oxford Dictionary Why do orders need to be

were rapidly approaching. As most of my classmates and friends were filled with excitement, I was
experiencing mixed emotions, most of all fear of the unknown as to where I would end up.
To be completely honest, I was fearful of leaving Tahlequah and Northeastern State simply due to so
many unknown variables as to what steps I would take next in my life. I dreaded the fact that I was
leaving Tahlequah, as it was a place that helped me to grown intellectually, emotionally, and
physically.
The influence of Dr. Kent Lashley had motivated me to become more scholarly and instilled a desire
of life–long learning. Emotionally, I was forced to grow, mature, and problem solve without having
my parents there to coach me, and as a result of that, I gained confidence and independence in my
ability to make it as a young adult. Physically, I grew and learned the importance of proper nutrition,
became an avid runner, and earned my 3rd degree black belt before graduating from college.
The fear within me was simply not knowing where I would end up teaching with my first job. I had
not applied too many places in Oklahoma before my graduation date as I had placed all of my eggs
in one basket. I had relied on a young lady that I thought would spend the rest of my life with and
was headed to Florida to fulfill a lifelong goal. Little did I know that the relationship would
completely dissolve

The Effect Of Administrative Turnover On Curriculum Essay

The Effect of Administrative Turnover on Curriculum
Introduction Even while 15–30% of schools in the United States experience administrative turnover
each year (Béteille, Kalogrides, & Loeb, 2011, p. 3), it is very rare for schools to experience it on a
continual basis where it occurs every other year. Yet, this is the case in the school where I work.
Over the past 8 years, the school has had four different administrators in charge of the building and
district (the district is made up of one K–8 school). Each change in leadership has brought with it a
change in educational focus, philosophy, and goals. Though the staff has hailed some changes and
hated others, people's major concern is that there has been little to no consistency in curriculum over
the past decade, particularly in the elementary classrooms. The purpose of this literature review is to
identify the different ways teachers can overcome administrative turnover in order to maintain
current curriculum. This review will also identify the optimal amount of time administrators should
remain at one school and district in order to positively affect student achievement through
curriculum development.
Background
Because the Moonachie School district consists of one K–8 school, it has a superintendent/principal
in charge of all aspects of the district and a director of curriculum who acts more as an assistant
principal than a director of curriculum. Over the last 6 years, the district

Accidental Death of an Anarchist
Q) Critically analyze the Figure of Madman in Dario Fo's play The Accidental Death of an
anarchist.
A) Dario Fo's play The Accidental Death of an Anarchist (1970) lies in the category of revolutionary
theatre that challenges the fascist regime of Italy. The play is a farce based on events involving a real
person, Giuseppe Pinelli, who fell – or was thrown – from the fourth floor window of a Milan police
station in 1969. He was accused of bombing a bank. The accusation is widely seen as part of the
Italian Far Right's strategy of tension. Just like Fo's other play, this play is also funny and subversive
and shows a strong preference for the culture and traditions of the ordinary people and a
commitment to the left wing politics. The play ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He provides most of the humor content of the play. The madman is whimsical and he constantly
contradicts other characters as well as himself. His series of logical/illogical arguments becomes
impossible to tackle and it frustrates the Police Department. Even though being termed as
psychologically unfit, the madman appears to be the most intelligent character in the play. He
ridicules the police officials for missing out on the basic concepts of English grammar and the use of
the most important "COMMA" that changes the meaning of a sentence. He dictates the terms of law
and judiciary to police officials. He is extremely sarcastic. He ridicules the superintendent for
assuming the railway man planted the bomb in railway station without any substantiate evidence and
sarcastically rebukes the "kindergarten logic".
The people in power appear to be inhuman and brute in their actions, and the "sacred" governmental
place, the police station appears to be a madhouse or a slaughterhouse. The madman, even though he
is mad appears to be the sanest character in the play. In fact, he appears to be directing the play
according to his wishes. Suffering from a disease

The Body In The Library Essay
The novel "The Body in the Library" is an English characterized as crime novel, written by Agatha
Christie and published by Dodd, Mead, and Company. The early version of this novel was published
in February 1942 in the United Kingdom. The novel is telling a story about a young woman's body
that was found in the Colonel and Mrs. Bantry's library by their maid. When Mrs. Bantry sees the
body, she calls her old friend, Miss Marple, to investigate this crime. By the time, the body had been

The Challenges And Issues Facing Schools
Introduction
The challenges and issues facing schools are becoming more complex subtle to address. There is a
tendency towards school board members seeking to advance personal interests and agendas on the
board's decisions which has enhanced the instances of conflicts of interest and controversial issues
in many schools. The distinction between the roles and responsibilities of the board members from
those of the superintendent has become blurred, making it essential that superintendents make
decisions that enable them survive in their roles. According to the California School Boards
Association, CSBA, (2013), the school board has the responsibility of establishing and adopting
various policies that set the overall direction and vision for district schools. School boards are
involved in strategic planning for the schools, through identification of strategic goals and priorities
for the district, Alberta School Boards Association, ASBA, (n. d). Through various policy
formulations, school boards assert their philosophy by developing various frameworks and
guidelines that steer the school system and actions of its employees.
Decision making in the school district
School boards make various decisions in executing their mandates. They are engaged in gathering,
evaluating and processing information for decision making, while giving due consideration to the
interests of all students. The school board may however make an approval to delegate some of its
tasks to an individual

Case Study Application: L.B. Jensen Middle School 1. What is meant by the following terms:
adequacy, equality, equitable, human capital, quality?
Within the case study, all of the terms mentioned seem to directly apply to the student population,
and what a school should be offering them. Also, is describes the qualities the leaderships members
need to keep in mind. Everything is to be done for the betterment of the students, and these terms
are there to justify that thought. Budgeting should be done with thoughts of the students at hand. All
students are to be offered an equal, quality and fair opportunity at an education and these terms
correlate with that. The bottom line to think about is that our students are an investment ... Show

Another example is that our school recently received a grant from the State of Ohio Department of
Education to roll an Adult 22+ program out. The school understands the value of the students and
the quality of education they have obtained, so they worked hard to get this program within our
school. Now, those above 22, who have previously aged out, are able to enroll in our 22+ program
and still gain their diploma. This is giving those individuals who have finally realized the
importance, the chance to make a difference and we at QDA realize this. The funding from the grant
will not fully cover this program, but we as a school understand the value.
The expense for these programs is just something that we know we need to budget for because the
outcome is much greater. This is producing more, productive members to contribute to society. 3.
Can educational services and funding be provided with equality and equity? Support your answer.
I think that this is possible, but only if the person in the leadership role understands the difference
between the two. Equity, "involves trying to understand and give people what they need to enjoy
full, healthy lives" while equality, "aims to promote fairness and justice, but it can only work if
everyone starts from the same place and needs the same things" (Clow, Hanson, & Bernier,
2015, p. 1). Yes, these concepts are related, but if you really take the

In a time of financial hard ships, balancing a districts budget has become increasingly difficult. As a
school board member for the Peoria School district it is important and crucial to effective budget
decision making to be educated on the school districts budget design and delegated responsibilities

each school district" (Brimley, Verstengen, Garfield, 2012, pg. 332). Areas vital to this effective

Superintendent and School Board's Responsibilities "The superintendent, by law in some states and
by assignment in others, is the executive officer charged with carrying out the programs that the
budget authorizes" (Brimley, Verstengen, Garfield, 2012, pg. 284). Some of these responsibilities are
delegated within the business staff and district administrators. "The school boards responsibility for
operating schools carries with it stated and implied powers for the protection of public funds and
property" (Brimley, Verstengen, Garfield, 2012, pg. 332). The board will be presented the budget
upon completion and their job is to approve the budget. If they do not approve, they must give
administrative staff ideas on how to approve the plan in order for them to approve it. The principals
are chief financial officer at the school level (Brimley, Verstengen, Garfield, 2012). The principal
will carry out the plan and distribute money according to the needs of his or her school. The
principal will establish a two–sided budget and ledger sheet with all receipts and expenditures along
with monthly reports that will be reported to the district office (Brimley, Verstengen, Garfield,

A Study With Immense Determination And Motivation For...
I began this mini–study with immense determination and motivation in hearing personal experiences
from female superintendents regarding the barriers and challenges they faced along their journeys.
Selfishly, I sought to better understand what I may face later down the road, as I personally aspire to
be a superintendent one day. Additionally, I have always had a strong interest in challenges that
marginalized groups often face. Therefore, it seemed like this topic would be natural fit. During my
very first interview, I was quite nervous. Although I had mulled over my questions repeatedly and
had practiced my questions with my husband, classmates, and in the mirror, I wanted to sound like a
competent researcher who was authentically invested in this process. I did not want to misrepresent
myself or the university. I giggled as I listened to the recording of the first interview. I kept saying
"good!" and "okay..." for a conversation filler, occasionally even when the participant was still
talking! During this interview, I quickly realized that my questions were out of order. While I
intended to open with "easier," less personal questions, I found that stalled deep conversations
regarding gender barriers in the profession. Therefore, I abandoned my specific conversation order
with the two other participants and let the conversation flow more freely. I believe I was stifling the
responses and myself by being too rigid. While that rigidity potentially came out of fear

Who Is The Superintendents ' Leadership Program? Essay
God, in His infinite grace, creates an amazing opportunity for every human being to find and fulfil
his life's purpose and meaning on earth so that he can achieve the highest happiness and satisfaction.
To me, one of the marvellous opportunities that came my way was the Superintendents' Leadership
Program (SLP). I believe that God had utilized wonderful people to be instruments in the
conceptualization and implementation of the SLP that had significantly contributed to my
transformation as a person, family man, and an education leader and manager. SLP had become a
useful tool that sharpened my mind and spirit to make my personal and professional life more
fulfilling. Every encounter in each module was a life–changing experience with the richness of
inputs, ideas, and time–tested practices shared by highly competent and dedicated SLP professors
and the sixty (60) great and noble superintendents who came from culturally diverse places in the
Philippines. Every module was a confidence–building session that gave me greater sense of
empowerment due to the acquisition of knowledge and skills essential to be more effective and
efficient agent of positive change in the workplace, at home, and in the community where I am in.
After completing the twelve modules, the question is – How did SLP help in my transformation?
The succeeding narration simply tells the big and small triumphs and victories in my personal and
professional life as a result of my attendance to SLP. As a matter

Reflective Writing: Assignment Two Recently, the superintendent of the school decided to retire
after serving eighteen years in the district. As the former superintendent, he single handedly hired
nine of the fourteen building administrators, and likened himself to that of a corporate manager. He
believed that the district's success was his responsibility, and that he alone was to credit for the
formation of unified administrators, and policies. Upon his retirement, the Board of Education
conducted a national search to hire a new superintendent. The new hire, a former high school
principal and assistant superintendent, has a very contrasting style of leadership. Her collaborative

Rebore (2014) describes the concept of influence of the past as "...successes and failures, ...correct
choices and mistakes, positive and negative relationships, [which are] incubators of ethical or
unethical human relations" (p.90). Therefore, the successful relationships formed by the retired
superintendent, which are very different from the current relationships of the new superintendent,
are an influential factor in the ability of the new leader to foster successes of her own. The other
consideration I would ponder is the manner in which the new leadership formed. The new
superintendent entered a community that previously had few freedoms in choice. They had not
formed a voice of their own in the way decisions were made for the school, as the former leader was
clearly a top–down manager and did not foster the independence and growth of the system, allowing
it to become institutionalized. The culture of the organization never changed or formed its own
being. Without the dictatorial leadership of their superintendent, there appears to be a sense of
floundering and lost direction. While the new superintendent has the best of intentions in mind, one
would ponder whether the community is ready, or able, to receive such freedoms in choice with the
little hands–on guidance that she provides.
Justification
Once the community became overwhelming concerned with the decisions fostered under the
direction of the new superintendent, I

The Role Of A Superintendent Within A School District
Introduction Much of this clinical experience has been examining the specific role of a
superintendent within a school district. I found that the reflections as part of the weekly journal to of
particular interest and benefit as I examined he "Guiding Questions" for this final synthesis essay.
Interestingly, my colleagues in this course found these reflections not to be beneficial. During one of
our class meetings it was noted that these were not a beneficial exercise and that reflection was not
needed. To that, I would counter that reflection s always needed but it is often the easiest item to
overlook. In our hectic administrative world, it is easy to become buried in Administrivia. Often we
do not event take a moment to move from one crisis to the next. Reflection is the only way we can
halt the inexorable march to the end. I for one, was pleased that we were asked to reflect on each
week. I took this as an opportunity to examine the actions of the superintendent and, in a risk free
environment, provide my perspective on the positive or negative actions observed or experienced.
Hopefully the observations and judgments in those weekly journals remain an academic exercise
and not a communique to my superintendent. As I re–read the journal entries and focus them with
the lens of the guiding questions, I have some final thoughts about my qualifications and
idiosyncrasies that may come into play if ever I was afforded the honor of being a superintendent.

Role Of The 21st Century Public School Superintendent
In corporate America, the expectation for a CEO is to increase profits and to project a positive
public image for the corporation. The role of the 21st century public school Superintendent often
mirrors that of a corporate CEO. The superintendent is responsible for a multi–million–dollar
budget, the management of a large employee pool, and the expectations for high stakes profits are in
the form of standardized assessment scores. Just as the CEO is expected to produce an increase in
profits, the school Superintendent is accountable for, and is expected to produce, a yearly increase in
test scores. Whittle (2005) contrasts the stability of CEOs in major corporations with the stability of
superintendents in large urban school districts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kentucky is worth examining as it has a vast rural area and as it was the first state to implement one
of the most large–scale educational reforms in the country.
Purpose of Literature Review
The purpose of this Literature Review is to examine the literature related to the question: Does a
relationship exist between school superintendent tenure and student academic success? Through this
research, the researcher discovered that there is very little research on the topic. Moreover, the
research that does exist is focused on large, urban districts. Thus, there is a gap in the literature as it
relates to rural schools, such as many of those found in the state of Kentucky.
Development of the Superintendent as Instructional Leader
The role of the Superintendent has changed dramatically over the years. The office of superintendent
as it is known today is much more recent in the history of education in America. Historically, the
need for a school district superintendent rose with the growth and the changes in public schools in
America. The first position known as school district superintendent was created in the late 1830s. By
most accounts, "the very first district superintendents were appointed in Buffalo, New York and
Louisville, Kentucky" (Grieder, Pierce, & Jordan, 1969).
By 1850, 13 city school districts had created this position (Kowalski, 2006).
This new position was necessary to accommodate the changing look of schools (Kowalski, 2006).

Speech On Safety Of Students And Teachers

  • 1. Speech On Safety Of Students And Teachers The Safety of Students and Teachers All around the world thousands of people are dying from selfless acts of terrorists along with misunderstood children taking their lives along with the people around them in their school. In one school police took 20 minutes to show up to the scene, why not have this be stopped sooner? What can we do about this situation to make it better? Armed guards should be placed in all schools around the world. First off, school shootings and threats are becoming more and more common in schools around the world. Many children and teachers are being shot, many dying and others with very serious injuries when they have done nothing wrong. Wayne LaPierre from U.S. News states "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun." I find this statement true because most people that have a gun and see a police officer with a gun will get rid of theirs because they fear the outcome. Secondly, the armed guards are only told to use their weapons in situations like school shootings. Some parents and other citizens are fearing that the armed guards are using their weapons to threaten the students and scare them. Mo Canady, Executive director of the National Association of school resource officers stated "We're not talking about officers walking around with this strapped on all day long, but certainly to have reasonable access to defend against a really bad situation" This quote proves that officers aren't using the weapons ... They spoke with legislators about the fact that professionals are not going into education. There is a proposal for a blended program which will encourage CSU's to allow prospective teachers to include a teaching program during the bachelors program, with completion in 4 years. Every Student Succeeds Act, was signed into law in 2015 and is replacing the No Child Left Behind Act. ESSA is a system that gives states more flexibility as it relates to funding, assessment and accountability. Moreover, there are many positive components to ESSA that will help a superintendent be effective in their position. One positive concept of the ESSA accountability system is that it will utilize the federal and state standards by merging them into one while the efficiency is analyzed. In addition to this, ESSA ended the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) requirement that was designed Under the No Child Left Behind Law while allowing states to eliminate unnecessary assessments. According to (Feagan, 2009), AYP was defined during this time as a stronger accountability measure. It was the only accountability system used to determine if schools were successful. This law made it difficult for superintendents to effectively move schools because AYP looked at individual subgroups in addition to individual groups. And so, if a superintendent was the leader of a district that had a high poverty rate, the test results in many cases were lower (2009.) Thus, making it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Superintendent Hayashi Change Deputy Superintendent Hayashi challenged the leaders to "Embrace change as an opportunity," however, change is challenging because it requires changing people's behavior. In Switch, the authors share the following three–part framework to guide us in situation where we need to change behavior: Direct the Rider, Motivate the Elephant, and Shape the Path. In today's presentation, Deputy Superintendent shared examples of changes at Waipahu High School to prepare the students for college, career, and citizenship. First, there was an Elephant problem. To improve student learning, there was a sense of urgency to change the systemic stereotypical image of Waipahu students and school. As a principal, he created common experiences for the faculty to affect their values and beliefs to change their perception of the students. Together, the faculty answered the questions "What do we believe and value and what do we believe about our students, our community, and ourselves?" The discussion engaged and motivated the teachers' emotions of their moral purpose as educators. The discussion, reflection, and collaboration also built a positive, trusting relationship with each other and set high expectation for all the students. • 9. Essay about Mgmt 591 Woodson Coalition Week 3 Case Study 1 Part 1: Group Development The genesis and growth of a group always goes through five stages: forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. Forming is always the first stage, where the group members meet for the first time and roles as well as structure and purpose are not firmly established. This stage closes when the individuals label themselves as a group. Appropriately named, the storming stage is defined by intragroup conflict in the areas of limited autonomy and leadership, and is a critical in group development. The resolution of this stage comes with a visible leader along with rankings of group members. After the dust has settled, the norming stage begins with development of cohesiveness, close relationships, and ends ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three organizations must come to an understanding on the issues presented first before commencing on creating the after–school program. The secondary problem encountered in this case is the diversity among the students and parents, school officials, NCPIE officials, and Woodson officials. We see that diversity is a very important part in forming the coalition, as the student population is a mix of African American, Caucasians and Hispanics. While the NCPIE is representative of students in Washington, D.C., the Woodson Foundation is located in Virginia and is composed of mainly Caucasian professionals. There are cultural, demographic, racial, ethnic, and location concerns that need to be taken into consideration when forming an effective team. Part 3: Retrospective Evaluation Although the differences in the ways and means vary among the organizations, there are shared common goals – meeting the needs of the students which consists primarily of learning, and engaging the parents participation in the school system. These goals should be at the forefront of every major decision while asking "Does this decision help the students?" Leaders of this coalition need to be selected from a pool of candidates. The best way to equally represent all the organizations and their influence in the process is to choose a candidate from each organization. Criteria for these leaders should include situation–specific experience, openness to input, a high ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. A New Superintendent Of An Urban School District Essay 1. Issue A new superintendent in an urban school district believes educators are trained to run schools and should do so with the least amount of interference possible. For this reason, an ethical crisis arises when the district decides whether or not to close a local high school. While public relations officers want district administration to be as transparent as possible to remain honest and open, the superintendent and other schoolboard members want to hold meetings with no media present. This facts of this case will become clear through explication. 2. Relevant Facts: This scenario takes place in a school district with 40 schools and 35,000 students. Its superintendent accepted a state–level position and was subsequently replaced. As families move to the suburbs, the district financially struggles to keep all four of its high schools open and considers closing one. The schoolboard approached the idea previously but faced backlash. Thus, administrators now try to resolve the problem behind closed doors. The superintendent and the schoolboard's members has held more than one meeting about closing the school without media or members of the public present. During one of these meetings, the superintendent stated, "If any reporters show up, I will change the subject." Although a public relations officer was appalled, at this point he said nothing. Nevertheless, shortly after the meeting, some high schools principals began to spread news, and the administration responded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Evaluation And Assessment Of Special Education When working in the field of special education, one must become intimately familiar with evaluations and assessments. Any individualized education plan worth its salt is laden with proposed or completed data from evaluations and/or assessments both summative and formative. Which I believe is a vital piece to every individualized plan in special education that successfully removes the access barriers confronting students and allowing them the greatest academic potential. Yet in the past when it came to teacher evaluations, I have had an extreme bias in believing they had any worth or value at all. I felt this was a bureaucratic evil that only increased the anxiety level of individuals attempting to do their finest with students. At best, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even more frustration comes in because I feel like my students would have been greatly impacted if I had administrators that actually believed positively in the evaluation system and used it to support the building of effective teaching practices. With this all said I do not desire to point the finger or cast stones at those individuals that gave me the privilege of working in this wonderful profession. But through them I have learned how powerful it is to have a vision, be able to articulate it, and implement said vision by doing the "right work" (Marzano, Waters and McNulty 76). The implementation of SB 290 came at a time of transition for my district. The superintendent, who was in his fourth year, had the entire district working on developing and aligning essential outcomes though newly formed professional learning communities when SB 290 came to fruition. Every teacher was being told that we knew what was best for our students, so work together and decided on what we think is essential for our students to learn. On top of that, we were being told to use proficiencies to determine if our students were learning and expected to develop these proficiencies along with common formative assessments. We were directed to do this work inside the bubble of our newly formed PLC's. I should also mention that our superintendent had a low value for outside professional development, so the only training that came during this time ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Life Of A Superintendent Life of a Superintendent Taking care of a golf course is a great field to go into because supervisors get the winter months off, they only need two years of college minimum, have to be a good supervisor for the crew members, and they have to be self motivated to be a golf course superintendent. There is a bunch of things that superintendents do. One thing they do is mow. Now on a golf course there is a lot of grass and it has to be maintained to a certain height. The greens are mowed lower than the fairways and the rough. Mowing is a crucial point of a golf course because that will determine the greens rolling speed and nobody likes slow greens. Just like some students have difficulties with basic mathematics skills, so does the Superintendent. This is not to say that the Superintendent cannot do basic math. What this is really comparing is the challenging undertaking involved in counting four out of seven votes in favor of the Superintendent 's recommendations. Swaying back and forth for Board votes is timely and very hard to accomplish, but it is an essential part of the job. Sharp and Walter (2004) explain board members have no authority as individuals. Along the same lines, it is important that when individual board members request information it is sent to every single member. Otherwise, the Superintendent gives up the opportunity to understand from where each board member is coming (Effective Superintendent–School Board Relations). This to some extent could be used as informational leverage, which could help down the line when trying to sway support. Keeping records on request is also considered very helpful when working with Boards. It is important that they stay informed, but it is also just as valuable that they get some feedback as to how much information they are requesting. They may tend to back off from requesting so much information. Regardless as to how and how often, the Superintendent must establish a communication system. Boards do not like surprises. It undermines board members ' trust, and makes them look bad, when they hear information about the district from another source (Effective Superintendent–School Board Relations). Getting the Boards trust can assist in creating a team concept. In any relationship, whether it is at home or work trust is essential for success. Trust is fundamental to all working relationships. Now, enter Detective Chief Inspector Banks. His appearance denotes a man of wealth; a portly fellow with quite the beer gut. He could perhaps be described as abrasive or as lacking in regard for others, with qualities of a dictator, or as dominant, being ever one to take charge. He seemed to gain little happiness from his position, ever one for being pessimistic, or simply a realist as he tells everyone, and is an avid gambler with no other relations. After the line ends the call, Chief Banks sighs, rubbing a hand along the stubble that lines his chin, slow and harsh. A groan escapes his lips along with the chair as he stands, hands fumbling along his desk until he manages to gather what he was after: keys and packet of cigarettes. As soon as Banks stands, another movement within the room is to be heard also. This is Detective Chief Rivers, a lean and awkward young man of 6'2". He has jet black hair and a long nose, and his personality is almost the opposite of Banks'; he is eager and obedient, submissive and optimistic, and always willing to give his time to assist the aid of the Chief, whom he regards with the utmost respect for. • 35. P1 : The Need For Discipline Introduction For any public service to work effectively the members of these services must be efficient. They must be disciplined as this is a large part of the uniformed public services. It is very important as if members are disciplined and self–disciplined they have will affect the members own performance and their services professionalism and efficiency in a positive way and vice versa. P1: The need for discipline What is discipline? Discipline is basically calm and controlled behaviour. It is when rules and boundaries are put in place and if those rules are broken then punishments are given to correct disobedience and to enforce discipline. By being disciplined it should also improve someone's morale. It is about changing behaviour. For example, in the Army you have haircuts before joining; you sign a military contract etc. When somebody knows their boundaries and rules they develop a moral code. This means they'll learn the difference from right and wrong and will also learn what's expected of them. If no one tells you then you don't know the difference. Therefore if someone's not disciplined then they are harder to train. For example, in the Army all officers have to have discipline in order to tell other soldiers what to do and for them to do it properly. In all public services the importance of having discipline is very high. To be completely honest, I was fearful of leaving Tahlequah and Northeastern State simply due to so many unknown variables as to what steps I would take next in my life. I dreaded the fact that I was leaving Tahlequah, as it was a place that helped me to grown intellectually, emotionally, and physically. The influence of Dr. Kent Lashley had motivated me to become more scholarly and instilled a desire of life–long learning. Emotionally, I was forced to grow, mature, and problem solve without having my parents there to coach me, and as a result of that, I gained confidence and independence in my ability to make it as a young adult. Physically, I grew and learned the importance of proper nutrition, became an avid runner, and earned my 3rd degree black belt before graduating from college. The fear within me was simply not knowing where I would end up teaching with my first job. I had not applied too many places in Oklahoma before my graduation date as I had placed all of my eggs in one basket. The Effect Of Administrative Turnover On Curriculum Essay Joshua Frisch ELAD635 Fall 2016 The Effect of Administrative Turnover on Curriculum Introduction Even while 15–30% of schools in the United States experience administrative turnover each year (Béteille, Kalogrides, & Loeb, 2011, p. 3), it is very rare for schools to experience it on a continual basis where it occurs every other year. Yet, this is the case in the school where I work. Over the past 8 years, the school has had four different administrators in charge of the building and district (the district is made up of one K–8 school). Each change in leadership has brought with it a change in educational focus, philosophy, and goals. Though the staff has hailed some changes and hated others, people's major concern is that there has been little to no consistency in curriculum over the past decade, particularly in the elementary classrooms. The purpose of this literature review is to identify the different ways teachers can overcome administrative turnover in order to maintain current curriculum. This review will also identify the optimal amount of time administrators should remain at one school and district in order to positively affect student achievement through curriculum development. Background Because the Moonachie School district consists of one K–8 school, it has a superintendent/principal in charge of all aspects of the district and a director of curriculum who acts more as an assistant principal than a director of curriculum. A) Dario Fo's play The Accidental Death of an Anarchist (1970) lies in the category of revolutionary theatre that challenges the fascist regime of Italy. The play is a farce based on events involving a real person, Giuseppe Pinelli, who fell – or was thrown – from the fourth floor window of a Milan police station in 1969. He was accused of bombing a bank. The accusation is widely seen as part of the Italian Far Right's strategy of tension. • 67. A Study With Immense Determination And Motivation For... I began this mini–study with immense determination and motivation in hearing personal experiences from female superintendents regarding the barriers and challenges they faced along their journeys. Selfishly, I sought to better understand what I may face later down the road, as I personally aspire to be a superintendent one day. Additionally, I have always had a strong interest in challenges that marginalized groups often face. Therefore, it seemed like this topic would be natural fit. During my very first interview, I was quite nervous. Although I had mulled over my questions repeatedly and had practiced my questions with my husband, classmates, and in the mirror, I wanted to sound like a competent researcher who was authentically invested in this process. I did not want to misrepresent myself or the university. I giggled as I listened to the recording of the first interview. I kept saying "good!" and "okay..." for a conversation filler, occasionally even when the participant was still talking! During this interview, I quickly realized that my questions were out of order. While I intended to open with "easier," less personal questions, I found that stalled deep conversations regarding gender barriers in the profession. Therefore, I abandoned my specific conversation order with the two other participants and let the conversation flow more freely. I believe I was stifling the responses and myself by being too rigid. While that rigidity potentially came out of fear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. Who Is The Superintendents ' Leadership Program? Essay God, in His infinite grace, creates an amazing opportunity for every human being to find and fulfil his life's purpose and meaning on earth so that he can achieve the highest happiness and satisfaction. To me, one of the marvellous opportunities that came my way was the Superintendents' Leadership Program (SLP). I believe that God had utilized wonderful people to be instruments in the conceptualization and implementation of the SLP that had significantly contributed to my transformation as a person, family man, and an education leader and manager. SLP had become a useful tool that sharpened my mind and spirit to make my personal and professional life more fulfilling. Every encounter in each module was a life–changing experience with the richness of inputs, ideas, and time–tested practices shared by highly competent and dedicated SLP professors and the sixty (60) great and noble superintendents who came from culturally diverse places in the Philippines. Every module was a confidence–building session that gave me greater sense of empowerment due to the acquisition of knowledge and skills essential to be more effective and efficient agent of positive change in the workplace, at home, and in the community where I am in. After completing the twelve modules, the question is – How did SLP help in my transformation? The succeeding narration simply tells the big and small triumphs and victories in my personal and professional life as a result of my attendance to SLP. As a matter ... • 71. Reflective Writing: Assignment Two. Recently, The... Reflective Writing: Assignment Two Recently, the superintendent of the school decided to retire after serving eighteen years in the district. As the former superintendent, he single handedly hired nine of the fourteen building administrators, and likened himself to that of a corporate manager. He believed that the district's success was his responsibility, and that he alone was to credit for the formation of unified administrators, and policies. Upon his retirement, the Board of Education conducted a national search to hire a new superintendent. The new hire, a former high school principal and assistant superintendent, has a very contrasting style of leadership. Her collaborative and distributive leadership styles are causing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rebore (2014) describes the concept of influence of the past as "...successes and failures, ...correct choices and mistakes, positive and negative relationships, [which are] incubators of ethical or unethical human relations" (p.90). Therefore, the successful relationships formed by the retired superintendent, which are very different from the current relationships of the new superintendent, are an influential factor in the ability of the new leader to foster successes of her own. The other consideration I would ponder is the manner in which the new leadership formed. The new superintendent entered a community that previously had few freedoms in choice. They had not formed a voice of their own in the way decisions were made for the school, as the former leader was clearly a top–down manager and did not foster the independence and growth of the system, allowing it to become institutionalized. The culture of the organization never changed or formed its own being. Without the dictatorial leadership of their superintendent, there appears to be a sense of floundering and lost direction. While the new superintendent has the best of intentions in mind, one would ponder whether the community is ready, or able, to receive such freedoms in choice with the little hands–on guidance that she provides. Justification Once the community became overwhelming concerned with the decisions fostered under the direction of the new superintendent, I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 73. The Role Of A Superintendent Within A School District Introduction Much of this clinical experience has been examining the specific role of a superintendent within a school district. I found that the reflections as part of the weekly journal to of particular interest and benefit as I examined he "Guiding Questions" for this final synthesis essay. Interestingly, my colleagues in this course found these reflections not to be beneficial. During one of our class meetings it was noted that these were not a beneficial exercise and that reflection was not needed. To that, I would counter that reflection s always needed but it is often the easiest item to overlook. In our hectic administrative world, it is easy to become buried in Administrivia. Often we do not event take a moment to move from one crisis to the next. Reflection is the only way we can halt the inexorable march to the end. I for one, was pleased that we were asked to reflect on each week. I took this as an opportunity to examine the actions of the superintendent and, in a risk free environment, provide my perspective on the positive or negative actions observed or experienced. Hopefully the observations and judgments in those weekly journals remain an academic exercise and not a communique to my superintendent. As I re–read the journal entries and focus them with the lens of the guiding questions, I have some final thoughts about my qualifications and idiosyncrasies that may come into play if ever I was afforded the honor of being a superintendent. • 75. Role Of The 21st Century Public School Superintendent In corporate America, the expectation for a CEO is to increase profits and to project a positive public image for the corporation. The role of the 21st century public school Superintendent often mirrors that of a corporate CEO. The superintendent is responsible for a multi–million–dollar budget, the management of a large employee pool, and the expectations for high stakes profits are in the form of standardized assessment scores. Just as the CEO is expected to produce an increase in profits, the school Superintendent is accountable for, and is expected to produce, a yearly increase in test scores. Whittle (2005) contrasts the stability of CEOs in major corporations with the stability of superintendents in large urban school districts. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Kentucky is worth examining as it has a vast rural area and as it was the first state to implement one of the most large–scale educational reforms in the country. Purpose of Literature Review The purpose of this Literature Review is to examine the literature related to the question: Does a relationship exist between school superintendent tenure and student academic success? Through this research, the researcher discovered that there is very little research on the topic. Moreover, the research that does exist is focused on large, urban districts. Thus, there is a gap in the literature as it relates to rural schools, such as many of those found in the state of Kentucky. Development of the Superintendent as Instructional Leader The role of the Superintendent has changed dramatically over the years. The office of superintendent as it is known today is much more recent in the history of education in America. Historically, the need for a school district superintendent rose with the growth and the changes in public schools in America. The first position known as school district superintendent was created in the late 1830s. By most accounts, "the very first district superintendents were appointed in Buffalo, New York and Louisville, Kentucky" (Grieder, Pierce, & Jordan, 1969). By 1850, 13 city school districts had created this position (Kowalski, 2006). This new position was necessary to accommodate the changing look of schools (Kowalski, 2006). The shift from ...
