Because more bright minds are being born, technology will advance at a faster rate. When technology advances, resources like oil and coal will be seen as an inefficient way to gain energy, so the environment will benefit. If some sort of disease happens, which wipes out the world, our species will have a better chance for survival. Though there is a decrease in the net growth rate but the population is expected to reach the 175 million mark within the next decade.
