First Conditional Do the sentences talk about the present or the future? Possible Are these possible or impossible events or situations? Future Complete the rule We use the First Conditional to talk about things we think are _____________ in the _________________ If I study hard, I`ll get good marks in my exams . If it rains tomorrow, I’ll watch TV
First Conditional If I study hard, I´ll pass my exams. If it rains tomorrow, I’ll watch TV. What verb forms do we use in the First Conditional? Complete the table. If I go out tonight, I´ll wear my new dress. If Clause (Condition) Main Clause (Consequence) If + ________________________ ___________ + _______________ ___________ + _______________
First Conditional How do we form the negative? If I _________________(not do ) go out tonight , I _______________ ( not wear ) my new dress . If it _______________ ( rain ) tomorrow, I _____________ ( not play ) football . If I ________________ (not pass ) my exams, my Dad ___________ (kill ) me .
First Conditional How do we form questions? If it _____________ ( rain ) tomorrow , ____________ ( you go ) to the beach? If Seville ______________ ( lose ) the football match, what ________________ ( you do )? If __________ ( you pass ) your exams, _________________ (you go ) to university ?
First Conditional We can change the position of the “if clause” and the “main clause”. If I do my homework, I will get good marks in my exams. I´ll get good marks in my exams if I do my homework. Look at the punctuation in both sentences. When the sentence starts with ________, we put a comma. We don´t put a comma when _______ starts the second part of the sentence.
First Conditional We can use “when” instead of “if”. If I finish my homework before 6.00pm, I’ll meet you at Nervion. When I finish my homework, I’ll meet you at Nervion. Which sentence is more certain? We use “ when ” to express a more certain event or situation in the future.
