Military Combat Women
Yes Ma'am!
Women fighting in the war since when? Women have been apart of the military war in early years of 1973 small
parts such as being a nurse or providing services for the men. For example, in 1991 The Persian Gulf War more
than 41,000 women are deployed to combat zone. 1993–Congress authorizes women to fly in combat mission, and
serve in combat boat. 2000–Captain Kathleen McGrath first women to be Command U.S. Navy Warship. 2005–The
"War on Terror" Sergeant Leigh Ann Hester is awarded Silver Star for combat actions. 2008–16,000 women serve

Alternatively from bashing the possible downfalls women could have. It will erase the criticism that they are

Mentally it will be an effect that women will be seen as equals if not superior to have the same opportunities and set

Persuasive Essay On Women In Combat
The topic of women in combat is an ongoing debate that is currently being argued in many places, commonly in the
United States. Women in combat next to men and a free women combat are two different perspectives in which
women in combat are defined by their gender. Women in combat will provide help to those men who are to attend a
combat. A free–women combat, on the other hand, prevents women from dying during combat due to not being
allowed in combat. Since Women aren't able to be included in any job in the military and have a right to be equally
treated like men in combat, it'll be unfair to more people. Women should be given the same right as men out in
battlefields because "women serving in the armed forces has not wavered as warfare has changed, a clear sign that
the necessity of women serving in combat is recognized." In addition, "several other countries outside the U.S.
already have women serving on the front lines." Lastly, "Combat is nothing new to our women in the military.
Several women have already given their lives serving in combat." Women have, over the years, worked hard to get
awarded the choice towards their career. Although it prevents more deaths, it's also a sexist matter. Any job in the
military should be a choice for women, it's their career after all and they can make their own decisions.
Considering the fact that many people would die due to the skills needed, it's understandable that many people
would be joyful to pursue these ladies a new option for their career. People who are against women in combat point
out that women aren't capable of doing such a "manly" job. Their argument is that women don't have the upper–
body strength to be able to carry a wounded soldier to safety (Neven, 2015, p.) Women in combat would then won't
be able to do such a job, so they would be denied the position. Women not being able to have a position in combat
would give less support to the men who suffer an accident. This topic can then close as women being denied the
position saving them from death, but the finale for this argument will leave women, and others unsatisfied, and it
wouldn't be quite fair for them.
One of the biggest factors that support the topic is that women serving in the armed forces

Should Women Be Allowed In Combat?
As a woman, a leader, a student, a United States citizen, a feminist, and a Democrat, I am a firm believer that
women should be allowed in combat. Hillary Clinton and Gary Johnson also agree with my point of view.
Clinton said, "I am a huge supporter of women being able to break whatever glass ceilings are holding them back...
Physically, mentally, you have to be prepared and you have to be ready. And I think that, you're right, not every
woman is going to want to do that [serve in combat roles] and some women what want to do it are not going to
qualify but we just had a few women pass Ranger school, which is an enormously competitive, grueling
experience." Some people believe women are not physically capable or efficient enough to succeed

Fight In Combat Women
My concern is why women are not able to fight in combat. Even though some people think women are too weak to
be in combat, women should at least be able to have a role based on their equality. Female servicemembers have
proven themselves to be mentally, morally, and physically capable of being in combat as well as men are and
changing a role in the military.
US military official lifted a ban on female soldiers serving in combat roles. At a press conference in the Pentagon
Defence secretary Leon Panetta, General Martin Dempsey, and Joint sheriff of staff said that women have already
proven themselves in action. Which clears a path for a military woman to serve on the ground in combat. Paula

Did you know women served in combat ever since the American Revolution, but often disguised as men? Many
females go in disguise to go into combat, such as Mulan. In my opinion, letting women serve in battle is a
victorious idea. Imagine girls being inspired by the females in combat. Many people believe females going in battle
is unacceptable because they do not think females are capable of doing what men can do. Females may be stronger
and powerful than how they appear to be. Many females go in disguise to go into combat, such as Mulan. Hua

Argumentative Essay On Women In Combat
Meredith Montagne Anthropology 316 October 22, 2017 Women in Combat Since before time, women have always
had less power compared to men. Men have always been the ones who have had the power to make decisions, the
power to incorporate new ideas, and have a powerful role within society. Unfortunately, in some countries, women
are not valued enough nor respected. There have been many cases within some cultures that women live a life of
misery because they don't have freedom. However, in some countries women have gained the right to have the
same power and freedom of a male. Many of these freedoms have to do with having a political role within society
or having a role that empowers them. One of these roles is to be in the front line during ... Show more content on

This showed that women were useful in combat as well as the men were. They were able to show their combat
skills and their ability to adapt to new changes. While adapting to combat, women had to adapt to working with
men and being trained by men. Many people did not approve of men training or working with females because they
were afraid of "Sex scandals." That was one of the reasons as to why Germany believed having females in combat
was ridiculous (Campbell). But since the older men were the ones training the young females, the females looked at
the men like "grandfathers", rather than seeing them in a passionate or affectionate way. However, when both
young genders were combined, they separated. According to Campbell, both genders were advised to not affiliate
with each other out of duty. This was recommended because they did not want anyone to be affiliated in romantic
way because romantic emotions were not a feeling to apply during combat. Regardless of both genders mixing,
they formed a bond of loyalty with each other, which is something to do while at combat. As mentioned before,
Germany was afraid of taking in women for combat because they were afraid of romantic relationships forming
within the ones serving. According to Campbell, Hitler preferred that women would stay at home and be full–time
wives and mothers. " Nazi women were to guarantee the survival of

"I 'm an American soldier too"
Can a woman handle fighting in combat? Should women be able to come face to face with the enemy? Will women
be able to control their emotions and take the horror that war inflicts? Should women be grateful that they are not
included in such a terrible thing as combat, or is it wrong to exclude them just because they are women? I say if a
woman chooses this kind of challenge, then she is more than capable.
During the daring rescue of prisoner of war Jessica Lynch from an Iraqi hospital, the first commando to reach
Lynch identified himself as a United States soldier. The 19–year–old Army private replied, "I 'm an American
soldier, too."

If a woman is not taken seriously, then how could she possibly achieve a role of leadership?
Excuse No. 3: Women have an adverse effect on male bonding and cohesion in a unit. People were afraid the
women might fall in love, or even get pregnant. However, Time has shown that military units of mixed sexes have
quietly maintained order, accomplished missions, and passed operational readiness inspections with flying colors.
They 're too busy doing their jobs to worry about who uses which latrine. Desert Storm is a classic example of
mixed units performing as cohesive and effective teams even under fire.
Excuse No. 4: Captured women possibly will be raped and tortured. Women who choose to join the military are
already fully aware of this possibility. They become informed and prepared before they complete basic training.
Every soldier understands that becoming a POW means the possibility of abuse and torture. As the experiences of
Lynch and Spec. Shoshanna Johnson highlight, keeping women out of combat positions — both were with the 507th
Maintenance Company when captured — does not protect them from becoming POWs and possibly facing this
danger. Rape, of course, is not a torture restricted by gender, nor is the determination to withstand whatever the
enemy dishes out. The qualities that are most important in all military jobs, things like integrity, moral courage and
determination, have nothing to do with gender.

Women In Combat Roles
I read your article Maintain the combat exclusion for Women in the military, published at the New York Times
online, and I have to say that I disagree with your belief that women should continue to be excluded from combat
roles in the military. Throughout your article you made a couple good points, however, the majority of what you
had to say was based off of a ridiculous and outdated societal view regarding women in general, not just women in
combat. Over the course of centuries the role of women in society has drastically changed and evolved, now more
than ever, women are heads of households, companies, and organizations. Why then should a women's role in the
military be any different? I implore you to reconsider your stance regarding women in combat based off of the

addition to this, Defense Secretary Ashton Carter made the decision to open all combat related jobs in the military

Should Women Be Allowed In Ground Combat
Women have been fighting alongside men on battlefields for centuries upon centuries, giving their greatest fight to
lead their team to victory. Although women are given this opportunity, direct ground combat amongst women
remains against the law till this very day, allowing a gender to define what a female can, or cannot do. The human
race continues to evolve every day, yet a simple discriminatory law that decides what a woman's capabilities are
without being aware of just how empowering that specific woman is is the same as it first was. Despite the idea that
women do not meet certain requirements in order to take place in combat units, women continue to provide an

Critical Response to the article: Women in Combat? These two may lead the way. (8/18/15) This editorial discusses
the subject of women in combat. The army is primarily known for the men who fight for our country. There could
however, be a turning point for women in the army coming in the near future. Two women graduated from the
Army Ranger School this month, which is something a woman had never accomplished before. They had to
complete this physically, mentally and emotionally challenging course, which is designed to be just like combat.
Personally I idolize these two women who were able to complete this course. There were 19 women and 380 men
who started the Ranger School course. Seeing how some of the men weren't even able to complete

Argumentative Essay On Women In Combat
Women have been in combat since the beginning; when tribes fought over food and other materials. As centuries
went on, women such as Joan of Arc and Bodecia fought as warriors. Women donned men's clothing during the
Revolutionary War, the American Civil War, and the Spanish–American War and fought before being discovered
when hurt or dead. These women include Deborah Sampson she served for over a year in General Washington's
army and Molly Pitcher, a water carrier, single handedly kept a cannon in action after an artillery crew had been
disabled. These women fought just as fierce in battle as any man. Over the years there have been mandates enacted,

Many might say that having women in combat in gender–integrated units might add more stress. When in fact,
some studies rival that women reduce the stress levels in the teams that they are on. "A 1997 RAND Corporation
study reported that in some cases, having women in a unit might actually be beneficial for the men in the unit." ( It
reported that in the gender–integrated units there were fewer incidences of men fighting and drinking to excess. The
study attributed men's improved behavior to men confiding their problems to the women to in the units, thus,
reducing the stress levels of the men. Our country's most recent conflicts have demonstrated that the military needs
women on the battlefield. We need a woman's creativity, insight, and empathy qualities in combat. Having women
in our platoons would have dramatically increased our ability to elicit critical intelligence. Since 2011 United States
Special Operations forces in Afghanistan have embedded all–female cultural support teams in their units. The
program has been lauded by commanders for gaining access to the 50 percent of the Afghan population who have
previously been inaccessible. "Defense Secretary Robert Gates in September, for instance, told ROTC students at
Duke University that he expects women to serve in special operations units, the kind of commando teams known
for stealth missions." (Press Associated). On today's complex battlefields, social sensitivity is a crucial skill for
military professionals. Women in combat reduce the stress levels and bring creativity to the situations in

Women have played a tremendous role in many countries' armed forces from the past to the present. Women have
thoroughly integrated into the armed forces; all positions in the armed forces should be fully accessible to women
who can compete with men intellectually and physically.
Yet, many argue that the distinction between combat and non–combat becomes blurred in the context of women
warfare (Ladin; Holm, Hoar). In actuality, many women are assigned to jobs that will expose them to enemy attack,
and this has been openly acknowledged by the top Pentagon officials. The United States Army has also recognized
that women would be deployed in combat zones as an inevitable consequence of their assignments. This was ...

There are many grounds on which this argument could be disputed, but women have contributed greatly in past
wars. They have served in combat in many skills during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam (Holm).
One study (Binkin & Bach) found that many NATO and several WARSAW PACT countries employed women in
combat roles during World War II. Russia was reported as using military women on the front lines. In Israel, where
they are actually conscripted, women have also experienced armed combat. (Binkin & Bach) found that in the first
phase of Israel's war of Liberation, one out of every five soldiers was female and they shared equality in both
offensive and defensive battle situations. Holm found that some 7,500 military women served in S.E. Asia during
the Vietnam War. She maintains that these women proved the modern American military woman is fully capable of
functioning effectively in a military role in a combat environment, even under direct hostile fire.
The United States Army has even conducted its own tests to examine the performance of individual units with
women in the field, under simulated combat conditions (Hoar). The first test, labeled MAX–WAC (Women Content

performance. The second test, REF–WAC, studied women in thirty–day sustained combat related exercises during

Women Serve In Direct Combat
Women have long been aggravated about the combat restrictions and have increasingly pressured the Pentagon to
catch up with the reality on the battlefield. When Defense Secretary Leon Panetta lifted the ban on women serving
in combat roles, it opened up hundreds of thousands of additional front–line jobs to them and cleared the path for
military women to serve in direct combat. His groundbreaking decision overturned a 1994 Pentagon rule that
restricted women from artillery, armor, infantry and other such combat roles. By removing the ban, it acknowledges
the changing realities for women at war. They are often found in the line of fire, regardless of the fact that they are

The Argument Against Women 's Combat
Debunking the Arguments Against Women in Combat There are many who would argue that allowing women, who
are physically unprepared, to fight in combat would affect the cohesiveness and combat readiness of the units in
which they serve. Government officials and military personnel are a just a few of the leaders behind this opposing
argument.
When asked about women in ground combat, President Bush summed up his position in four words, "No women in
combat" (Curl and Scarborough A01). He supported his statement further by claiming that, "The policies currently
in place that prevent women from fighting in combat have served our nation well. There is no reason to change
what is already working. Our military is successful and will continue to be so" (ibid.). In saying this, however, he is
providing an emotional fallacy to the listener. He is appealing with Americans to keep with their traditions. Bush
also, unintentionally, gives a post hoc fallacy when he alludes to the fact that if women fought in combat, our
military wouldn't be as successful. Furthermore, he makes the assumption that if women were allowed to fight in
combat, they would negatively affect unit cohesion and male bonding, but he gives no evidence to support his
assumption.
Other opponents argue that women aren't really interested in fighting in combat, they're more concerned with the
benefits they would get as a result. Anna Simmons, a Professor of Defense Analysis at a Naval Postgraduate
School, stated this,

The United States military views its diverse force as one of its greatest assets. Senior Air Force leaders recognize
the monumental contributions both men and women make in support of their country daily. Americans serving in
any branch of service know it is not a nine–to–five job but rather a calling. It is about being a part of the Profession
of Arms. Airmen are warriors. The third verse of the Air Force Airman's Creed states, "I am an American Airman,
Guardian of Freedom and Justice, My Nation's Sword and Shield, its Sentry and Avenger. I defend my country with
my Life" (Huguley, 2009, p.1). The word "Airmen" is gender neutral in the creed; yet, women who want to serve in

According to Jelinek (2011), "Pentagon spokeswoman Lainz said," Of the roughly 2.2 million troops who've served
in Iraq and Afghanistan, more than 255,000 have been women. According to Pentagon figures, 110 women had
been killed in the war in Iraq compared with about 4,300 men. In the Afghan campaign, 24 women have been killed
compared with more than 1,400 men" (p.1). The armed forces prides itself on developing tomorrow's leaders but
they are failing in developing a diverse group of leaders. "Minorities and women still lag behind white men in
terms of number of military leadership positions" (Jelinek, 2011, p.1). The reality is that women are already in
combat zones and dying for their country. The Department of Defense policies are sorely outdated and need to be
updated to meet the needs of all today's strategic service members. Now that the need for the change has been
defined, we will now discuss the arguments for and against women in combat. The American public has become
accustomed to women in the military yet the same arguments exist about why women should or should not be in a
combat role. The first major argument against women in combat is that women are inferior and cannot perform in a
combat environment. There are no facts or studies that can substantiate that argument. Two Air Force aircrew
members, C. Hansen and D. Massingill, shared that they have had both positive and negative experiences with

Women Should NOT Be Allowed In Combat
The influence of females should not be underestimated; they have the ability to be just as strong and powerful as
men do. Their presence in physical warfare would make an enormous difference in the outcome of the battle
because they offer so many advantages that most people overlook. They have the potential to be even more robust
than men due to their willpower. If women could be admitted into combat forces within the army, how could it
possibly have a negative effect? Women should be able to participate and fight in combat during times of war
because gender does not limit someone's opportunity to train for combat, a bigger army equates to a more powerful
one, and trained females are just as equipped as trained males.
Women should be allowed to train and fight for combat like any other man because gender should not limit one's
opportunity to participate. The women who want to train and fight for our country in combat are very strong and
determined to serve in the military. Andrew Tilghman, writer for military times, confirmed "The Defense
Department will lift gender–based restrictions on military service, Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced" (All

There were no established standards for measuring the strength and stamina of women, so women were being

It should have more to do with the mutual trust and respect that is being created. I do however, agree with the
sexual fraternization aspect. When you put men and women together it's only a matter of time before our natural
desires are acted upon. I feel this could cause problems for the men as well as for the women if allowed to be there
with jealousy and resentment. Neither emotion would be good to have while on the battlefield. The soldiers need to
have their mind fully on the task at hand.
The belief that women are incapable to meet the physical rigors necessary for ground combat has remained
unchanged over the years even though evidence has been provided that proves otherwise. There are some military
reports to show that some women have the upper body strength to meet the standards for combat. I believe it should
be stated that there are women that are stronger than some men. Not all men are cut out to be in combat, but any
man that wanted to do the job would be allowed to do so if he could meet the minimum physical standards. I don't
feel that is fair.

Should Women Be Allowed In Combat
Women in Combat
Countries across the globe have engaged in war since their very start; however, women have not been allowed full
rights in combat; they have often been excluded or sheltered. Women formerly had little to no rights in war;
however, over time they developed some rights ("History"). Since the 1940s, the combat exclusion policy has not
allowed for women to take on front line combat or have the opportunity to gain certain leadership or ranked
positions (
Women's Actions). Many feel this excludes women from having a full opportunity in combat and does not allow for
proper career advancement (Service Women). Men look at women as weaker or less than them when it comes to
combat, but if they meet the physical requirements then they should be allowed equal employment (Koren). Women
should be allowed to engage in active combat to ensure equality and give service opportunities; women have
proven themselves to be physically, mentally and morally capable of carrying out such duties ("Women").
The history of women in combat is somewhat controversial; and women have always seeked equality in combat

However, talk has spread of opposition towards this controversial topic. Questions have exploded on whether
women will be beneficial or only a liability. Opposing viewers surrounding this issue believe women are not
capable of excelling in combat. Not only is there differences in male and female anatomy, the overall workload is
too excessive for women to endure. The popular belief still holds, women belong in the home, not on the battlefield.
Yet times are vastly changing. Modern times has moved society towards fixing the wrongs it has created. From the

In the 1992 Presidential Commission, it was stated that evidence "clearly shows the distinct physiological
differences between men and women" and that women are at a "disadvantage when performing tasks requiring a
high level of muscular strength and aerobic capacity." This argument is both under and over–inclusive because
many women have the physical strength to engage in combat while many men do not possess though attributes. In
all actuality, men are assigned to ground combat positions before undertaking physical strength examinations. They
base it off medical evaluations, aptitude test scores and personal preferences. Thus, males are not removed from
combat positions for a lack of physical strength, but women are banned from entering such positions regardless of
physical strength. The jobs supplied should not be filled based on gender. Military effectiveness requires that the
best qualified person is chosen, whether or not they are a woman. Therefore developing a gender–neutral policy and
allowing women to take combat positions would surely increase effectiveness and capability of the United States
armed forces (McSally). Some of the most courageous soldiers have been women and physical strength only added

Arguments Against Women In Military Combat
Women in Military Combat
Women have served various roles in the military over the years. However, their participation in combat role has
always been debatable. History has highlighted a number of women who have served in the military either
intentionally or unintentionally particularly in combat roles. During the Second World War, women from different
countries such as Britain and Germany served in combat roles (Megan, 32). However, this was short lived as many
countries continue to bar women participation through adoption of various policies. This is because different
individuals hold varied opinions and views on the issue. There are about 16 countries in the world which allow
women to participate in combat roles .This paper is going to discuss why women should be allowed to serve in
military combat.
Women should be allowed in the military combat because they can complete the same physical tasks as men with
proper training. This is because women have been able to successfully accomplish tasks that have been perceived in
the past as preserve for men. The argument that women lack physical ability to ... Show more content on

They argue that even though they can accomplish the same physical tasks like men, they are not naturally as strong
as they lack the muscle strength that is required to serve in combat roles of the military. Muscle strength is
necessary to carry the heavy weapons and in fighting the enemy. This therefore puts them at greater risk of injury
and target by the enemy (Simons 451). In addition, they state that female are averagely shorter than their male
counterparts and have less upper body strength that is essential for endurance in the military. Furthermore, they
state that women have dense skeletal system that is prone to breakages. Lastly they state that the shooting accuracy
of women is much less compared to that of men in combat

Arguments Against Women In Combat
Women in Combat A woman in combat was a trending topic for the armed forces for years. The year 2016 is when
officially women have been granted the right to join the armed forces in a combat field of the job. Others,
particularly in the military, are against this act because of various reasons concerning the safety of military troops in
an anarchy form of living. A battlefield is known to be the most stressful and dangerous environment, and it is vital
for the armed forces to conduct safety and simpleness to remove any complicated areas that might make the job
more difficult. Efficiency, communication, and most importantly trust and loyalty are essential to perform in such a
violent atmosphere.

Although the two Ranger graduates completed ranger school it is shown that rarely a woman will meet the
standards of a male, but the majority will fall short. For example, The Marine Corps Infantry Course has been open
to women since 2012 and not a single woman has passed it yet. "It is enough to think that the Marine Corps'
Infantry Officer Course, open to female volunteers since 2012, has not had a single female graduate yet
("unoffended.wordpress")." The physical requirements for being a soldier are set high because of the demanding
jobs needed to be executed. Often when women are put in charge of men in the military it is sometimes hard for a
man to have as much respect and motivation that they would have toward a man. You may ask yourself why this is.
It is because women in the military have a much less physical requirement in the military. A leader must lead by
example and if that leader does not meet at least the minimum requirements of the other soldiers their reputation is
taken as a joke. More importantly, in the field of a combat mission, soldiers are required to carry at least 50–80lbs
of gear with them at all times. You must be in the finest shape of your life to get accustomed to this kind of
strenuous work. This physical requirement is not only for yourself to survive, but you must also be able to go
beyond your limits to save your team member from danger. If a woman

Even though many people stereotype women being in combat, it isn't fair that you are stopping someone from
doing what they love to do. Women can do things the same way as men and it will open more job opportunities for
women. Women should have the same rights as anyone else. Would a man want to stand there and be victimized
because he is a male? What if men couldn't be in combat? Wouldn't that be a sight to see? A man being told he
cannot do what he is good at. Just like if a women is built to succeed in the military. She should be able to do what

(Facts on File, 2007). For soldiers, women being in the military has been a common thing. But females being in
combat units is rare. Female soldiers deal with male soldiers hassling them around about the fact. Women should be
able to have the same rights as men do. Just because we are more "sensitive" and "emotional". The men need us.
Women overseas are more willing to talk to a female that can relate to them more than a mean guy trying to get
information. I wouldn't want a big guy in green coming towards me, wanting me to willingly give up anything I

"In a perfect world, every U.S. soldier would be an asexual brute with a stunningly high IQ who doesn't eat much,
is adept at following orders and leery of challenging authority" (Thompson). As far as humankind is concerned,
there have never been any soldiers like that anywhere in the world, let alone the United States military. Therefore,
the standards for enlisting in military combat positions are as high as possible to ensure that we can create soldiers
that are effective as these "perfect–world" soldiers. There are obviously men and women who are not able to meet
these standards, but there are definitely also men and women who are highly capable of meeting and/or exceeding
these standards. While some individuals feel that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition of "gender–neutral" has a different definition for everyone and it does not necessarily mean energy
exertion. These neutral standards are carefully put together to ensure that the soldier will be successful in battle.
Moreover, combat depends on the person, not the gender. If a five foot tall, ninety–five pound man wants to enlist
in a combat position, he is permitted to at least try. If he is able to complete the tasks, he is allowed to fight. Then
why should a six foot tall, one hundred–eighty pound woman not be able to do the same? If the woman has the
ability to carry the necessary load and complete the necessary tasks, it is logical to allow her on the battlefront with
the rest of the competent men. The women who are looking for combat positions are not worried about their
feelings or what is politically correct. They want equal opportunities and if they qualify, they should have the
chance.
Furthermore, people have to realize there is not much need to be as hefty as a man to serve as a combatant in
modern warfare. For example, physical tests given to soldiers do not necessarily evaluate an individual's potential

Women Serving For Combat Positions
Introduction/Objective: Women serving in combat positions has been a highly controversial topic and is openly
criticized by many. The push for equality by allowing women to serve in combat positions is not just isolated to a
few military branches of service. Secretary Carter stated, "For the first time in U.S. military history, as long as they
qualify and meet specific standards, women will be able to contribute to the Defense Department mission with no
barriers at all in their way." (Pellerin, 2016). Based on the Secretary's recommendation, women will be eligible for
all positions to include roles in combat. Senior leaders noted that this will provide a better selection of candidates,
therefore increasing the quality of the selection process, (Commander Call Topics, 2015). The leading idea behind
gender neutrality is to improve the military's position regarding well–qualified personnel in key positions,
(Commander Call Topics, 2015). This integration is supported through equal opportunity for everyone who inspires
to serve their country. The standards will remain the same, therefore women will need to pass the same
requirements as their male counterparts, (Commander Call Topics, 2015).
According to research, several studies were conducted prior to making the decision to open all military positions for
women. It was noted that over 200,000 women worked alongside their male counterparts in Afghanistan and Iraq
without incident, (Commander Call Topics, 2015). Based

Women Should Not Go Into Combat
This debate on whether women should be in military combat roles or not, has no in–between, one either believes
women should go into combat or one believes women should not go into combat. The two extremes sides of this
argument offer numerous reasoning as to why they stand with their beliefs but the reasons which make a valid
argument are as follows. For the positive side which believes women should go into combat, say that this decision
should be dependent on a person's skills and abilities to perform under these condition rather than their gender
identity. Aside from this, there have been many recent developments in warfare technologies which accommodate
to females bodies and many of these women can meet the physical and mental standards that are required for
combat fighting.
Moreover, the negative side argues that women are not as physically or mentally capable when compared to men.
Also that their weakness will have a significant impact on them as a person but as well as the military in general.
Stating that there are no modifications in actual combat, where there can be in training settings. Those opposed to
women in the military also mention that there is the possibility of sexual assault within the infantry teams.

Women In Combat Arguments
So many questions linger when it comes to women being able to be in combat. Are they strong enough? Are women
capable of dragging a man's body out of gun fire? In my opinion, this is a well debated topic in the military world. I
believe that women should not be allowed in combat because most are not physically capable, emotionally capable,
and not experienced enough. I don't think women are nearly as strong as men. In my high school gym class, men
met higher physical education standards than women. If I was in the military, I would not expect a woman to be
able to carry my body out of gun fire. In the weight room, I've seen women who are not capable of carrying a
thirty–pound dumbbell. I don't believe women the emotional capacity to be in

The Strength Of Women In Combat
Women just aren't built for the job of frontline combat. Infantrymen have to carry an estimated 100 pounds on their
back. At the same time they have to load 90 pound shells into guns that are nearly double the size of that
ammunition. This is one of the reasons that women can not handle the stress of frontline combat. Men are built
more for the conditions of combat with their broader shoulders and backs, and thicker necks. Women have 45 to 50
percent less upper–body strength, and 25 to 30 percent less aerobic capability. Also men are born with more
testosterone in their body. Testosterone enhances the body's ability to build muscle, which also makes men more
built and made for the physical toll of combat. If we bring women into combat then

Argumentative Essay On Women In Combat
In 2017, there was 214,098 women enlisted in the military (Women in the Military personnel). Those who support
women in combat believe that it may reduce the amount of sexual assaults and that women in combat could
improve and strengthen the military. Furthermore, advocates of Erin Solaro strongly feel that none of the bad
predictions about women in combat came true and are doing perfectly fine. On the other hand, those who oppose
women in combat are convinced that female soldiers have a higher chance of being sexually assaulted and that men
and women have different physical standards. In addition, the critics of women in combat firmly believe that
allowing women in combat weaken the military, therefore harming the unit. Every reason was valid and
convincing, but I stand undecided on which side to support. Women in combat involve many different varieties of

military does not mean less women should serve, but women should so they can be represented in more equal
numbers (How the Military Can Lead). In addition, when Panetta lifted the ban, she may have affected the growing
number of sexual assaults. Research proves that if males regonizes females as equals the amount of sexual assault
may decrease (Ending Ban, U.S. Hopes). With females being recognized as equals, the sum of sexuals assaults will

Argumentative Essay On Women In Combat
Women have always served in the military. In the American Revolution, they were nurses and cooks, then in World
War II they were pilots, drivers, and mechanics too. When women died in the wars, leaders started wondering if
women should only be in the military in times of crisis ("How Roles Have Changed for Women in the Military.").
Even though women have served for decades, they have not been in combat for very long. In 2013, Leon Panetta
lifted the ban on women in combat positions. Then in 2015, it was decided that all combat positions would be open
to women, including special units like Navy SEALs (Silva). There are some who think women should not be given
this chance. The two sides of if women should be in combat are very different but both have compelling arguments.
The people in favor of women being in combat roles have many reasons but there are three main points. If women
are as physically capable of being in certain military positions, they should get the same opportunities as men. If
women were still kept away from combat, it could limit the choices for the most qualified person for the job.
Women and men can both be trained to succeed in certain roles and if there are women who want to serve, why
should they be turned away? Their last point was that being in a combat position is often necessary to get a ... Show

Should Women Be Allowed In Combat?
Women have been fighting for equality throughout history. They have fought for their right to vote and they didn't
get that right until the year 1920. They have also proven that they aren't just a housewife that they can get a job and

things, but some people still don't see that. Women, who make up some 14 percent of the armed forces, should

trained to protect women. This will not be overcome easily and will result in men (and women) possibly losing

women fighting next to him. Shouldn't be, shouldn't happen, but it will. Sexual liaisons, though repeatedly
dismissed among proponents of women in combat as prosaic are also a legitimate concern. It's just human nature.
Gallatin observed, "Men and women are attracted to each other emotionally and sexually. This will create
disruption in the unit and, in combat, possibly cost lives and/or mission accomplishment. It happens frequently in
non–combat units where men and women are assigned. Jealousy, etc. are very disruptive things. It is genetic will

Argumentative Essay On Women In Combat
While interviewing ten people, both civilian and members of our armed forces of varied sexes, all but one had a
common concern with women in combat. They do not believe they should be integrated if they are unable to meet
the exact same standards as the men who hold those positions currently. Staff Sergeant Pedro Campoverde (11B
infantry), ex Drill Sergeant stated "women should have different standards. They are built differently from us
males." He has recalled many instances where male soldiers were not able to complete certain tasks and would have
to get assistance from other soldiers. This makes him believe that helping a female soldier would be no different.
Although there are numerous jobs for women within our armed forces, they engage in activities that are designed to
suit the needs of men. A woman trying to achieve the same results as a man often finds herself being injured and
ending her career earlier than anticipated. People argue that not allowing a woman to fight is taking away her rights.
Considering a woman will always be in greater danger than a man on the battlefield, her rights are being protected.

Women Should Be Legal For Combat
Women should be allowed to serve in combat roles in the military Some argue that women should not serve in
combat because; they have never served in any type of combat operations in the history of the American military.
Positions in the military have been designed specifically for women and how they perform their duties. No
evidence can be produced that women have the abilities, physical strength, or motivation to engage in combat
operations, the physical differences from their male counterparts are so extreme; women cannot maintain the agility
or psychological confidence that men are capable of displaying during extreme combat stress. However, this
thinking misses the point. History has shown as far back as the Revolutionary War, women such as Molly Pitcher,
who took up her husband's position as an artillery gunner, after he was injured in combat. More recently during the
wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have had many women put into stressful combat situations, with very little training,
and were able to engage the enemy effectively, and in some cases displayed courageous actions that saved lives.
They were able to physically and mentally handle the combat stress equally with their male counterparts. Several
women have also recently been allowed to attend advanced combat training, such as the U.S. Army Ranger School.
Additionally, with much opposition to women serving in combat units, the Department of Defense has recently

The Combat For Women 's Rights
The Combat for Women 's Rights
Throughout the decades, women in the United States and all around the world have struggled to be considered
equivalent to men, both at home and in the workplace. Women have struggled with voting rights, less pay, lower
positions in the workplace, and responsibility of maintaining household chores. Though women have gained voting
rights in the United States, women still struggle with the other gender inequalities. In today's society, women are
fighting with more diligence than before to end gender division. Women have made significant leaps and bounds of
progress and are fighting to gain full equality. Society, however, still looks down on women and hands men power
even with all the amount of progress women have made over the generations. Gender division is an issue that is
important in our everyday lives and has momentous effects on the United States. Gender division can be seen
through gender roles both in the home and positions and pay in the workplace.
Women face several inequalities in the workplace and at home due to the perception of traditional gender roles or
the responsibilities and behaviors considered gender appropriate by a society's cultural norm. These gender roles
are an enormous component of gender inequality today. Gender roles are learned and taught at an early age from
surrounding influences, as well as from their culture and community, not inherited at birth. Those who foster and

Throughout our history, there have been many struggles that women have faced based on their gender. An issue that
has recently risen is the idea of permitting women to take on combat roles in the military. Various opinions flood
the minds of many which makes individuals question whether women should be authorized to take on such a task
or not. Those who oppose women in combat do not want women, with the exception of nurses, to be stationed in
any areas where there is conflict. They don't want women to be trained and expected to kill. The ethical issue is,
should women be allowed to engage in combat?

This leads to the belief that there are differences between men and women, such as men have a greater ability in
combat than women becoming a factor of why women should not be allowed. People claim that women, even if
qualified, should not be used in combat because they are needed for other social functions. Men may fear the loss of
masculinity and can disturb male bonding. Men who maintain traditional gender roles, may act foolishly in order to
protect women in their units. According to one article, "The percentage of women is the enlisted forces continued to
rise until it reach 15 percent in 2002, and then, it unexpectedly stopped growing and dropped slightly" (Armor,
"Women in Combat: Rationale and Implications"). There is a higher percentage of men who enlist, compared to
that of women. Another issue is that there are often reported problems of sexual assault and harassment of women
in the military. A sexual assault cannot only cause a woman to loss faith or respect of her peers, but she may fear
them. Whether it is unwanted advances or sexual assault, it can destroy a unit's

There are women in the armed services. Women do put their lives on the line to protect America, this isn't some
task that only men perform. Also, it's not just the armed forces that continue to keep America free. I think that men
and women should be treated equally. If women would like to participate in the military they can volunteer. They
could even be able to volunteer for front line combat positions. However, women should not have to be a part of the
draft. Men and women have different bodies. Men endure pain better than women. Men do not explicitly feelings
being hurt. They often endure, not to scream, request processing "wound" immediately like women. Women in
combat hurt more easily and could not maintain the fight as long as men, simply because their bodies are different.

Many people say that if men and women are treated equally and for all of us of the benefits of living in this country,

while maintaining the motherland is the responsibility of women. It is natural order.
Our nation has been seduced by the lies of political correctness that men and women are the same, but we're not the

Women in Combat Roles in the Military
Physical differences between men and women come up in careers such as the military. The military career requires
great responsibility, dedication, and sacrifice. The key to achieving a good performance in this field is to have an
excellent physical ability. Women with physical training can exceed men without physical training. In addition,
women have to have great value to develop this type of careers. The equality and teamwork are two fundamental
reasons too. Over the years, it has been thought that man is the only one able to do this work. However, a woman
can be better prepared physically that a man. Therefore, women deserve to be assigned combat roles in the military.
A few decades ago the role of women in society was to perform household chores and the care of children. Today
there are thousands of women working as military. Physical differences between men and women are remarkable.
Hypothetically, the physical capacities of women are lower than of man, because the man is stronger, taller, and has
more muscles than women. Women usually are smaller, have less strength and have less body weight. Therefore it
is thought that women are weaker than men. However, this is not true; women are physically well trained, and have
the physical capacity necessary to develop in this field. It is important to be well trained physically because training
increases physical capacity and develops the strength, speed, and endurance. Women with physical training can

Military Combat Women

  • 1. Military Combat Women Yes Ma'am! Women fighting in the war since when? Women have been apart of the military war in early years of 1973 small parts such as being a nurse or providing services for the men. For example, in 1991 The Persian Gulf War more than 41,000 women are deployed to combat zone. 1993–Congress authorizes women to fly in combat mission, and serve in combat boat. 2000–Captain Kathleen McGrath first women to be Command U.S. Navy Warship. 2005–The "War on Terror" Sergeant Leigh Ann Hester is awarded Silver Star for combat actions. 2008–16,000 women serve in Iraq,Germany,Japan and etc."Women in the United States United States Military." It will erase the criticism that they are emotionally unqualified to perform in battle. It will illustrate that women should not be viewed as a weak individual with the feminine quality.Physically women will be training in the same field as men and be as built to endure what is expected for them to handle in battle and, when you train you are a presentation of your base and they disciplined their troops to Fight and be Strong . Mentally it will be an effect that women will be seen as equals if not superior to have the same opportunities and set standard as men do to be in a elite section of the military. Also it bring more awareness of the PTSD condition and make a support program as their is to help members once they are deployed from service. It will also put pyschologist to work who specialze in behavioral studies to care and treat the men and ... • 3. Persuasive Essay On Women In Combat The topic of women in combat is an ongoing debate that is currently being argued in many places, commonly in the United States. Women in combat next to men and a free women combat are two different perspectives in which women in combat are defined by their gender. Women in combat will provide help to those men who are to attend a combat. A free–women combat, on the other hand, prevents women from dying during combat due to not being allowed in combat. Since Women aren't able to be included in any job in the military and have a right to be equally treated like men in combat, it'll be unfair to more people. Women should be given the same right as men out in battlefields because "women serving in the armed forces has not wavered as warfare has changed, a clear sign that the necessity of women serving in combat is recognized." In addition, "several other countries outside the U.S. already have women serving on the front lines." Lastly, "Combat is nothing new to our women in the military. Several women have already given their lives serving in combat." Women have, over the years, worked hard to get awarded the choice towards their career. Although it prevents more deaths, it's also a sexist matter. Any job in the military should be a choice for women, it's their career after all and they can make their own decisions. Considering the fact that many people would die due to the skills needed, it's understandable that many people would be joyful to pursue these ladies a new option for their career. People who are against women in combat point out that women aren't capable of doing such a "manly" job. Their argument is that women don't have the upper– body strength to be able to carry a wounded soldier to safety (Neven, 2015, p.) Women in combat would then won't be able to do such a job, so they would be denied the position. Women not being able to have a position in combat would give less support to the men who suffer an accident. This topic can then close as women being denied the position saving them from death, but the finale for this argument will leave women, and others unsatisfied, and it wouldn't be quite fair for them. One of the biggest factors that support the topic is that women serving in the armed forces ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Should Women Be Allowed In Combat? As a woman, a leader, a student, a United States citizen, a feminist, and a Democrat, I am a firm believer that women should be allowed in combat. Hillary Clinton and Gary Johnson also agree with my point of view. Clinton said, "I am a huge supporter of women being able to break whatever glass ceilings are holding them back... Physically, mentally, you have to be prepared and you have to be ready. And I think that, you're right, not every woman is going to want to do that [serve in combat roles] and some women what want to do it are not going to qualify but we just had a few women pass Ranger school, which is an enormously competitive, grueling experience." Some people believe women are not physically capable or efficient enough to succeed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Fight In Combat Women My concern is why women are not able to fight in combat. Even though some people think women are too weak to be in combat, women should at least be able to have a role based on their equality. Female servicemembers have proven themselves to be mentally, morally, and physically capable of being in combat as well as men are and changing a role in the military. US military official lifted a ban on female soldiers serving in combat roles. At a press conference in the Pentagon Defence secretary Leon Panetta, General Martin Dempsey, and Joint sheriff of staff said that women have already proven themselves in action. Which clears a path for a military woman to serve on the ground in combat. Paula (who is retired) said that ¨Everyone is entitled ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Women In Combat Research Paper Did you know women served in combat ever since the American Revolution, but often disguised as men? Many females go in disguise to go into combat, such as Mulan. In my opinion, letting women serve in battle is a victorious idea. Imagine girls being inspired by the females in combat. Many people believe females going in battle is unacceptable because they do not think females are capable of doing what men can do. Females may be stronger and powerful than how they appear to be. Many females go in disguise to go into combat, such as Mulan. Hua Mulan fought in combat for 12 years and her comrades did not realize she was a female. She went into battle because her father is old and her brother was still young, also one man in the family had to go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Argumentative Essay On Women In Combat Meredith Montagne Anthropology 316 October 22, 2017 Women in Combat Since before time, women have always had less power compared to men. Men have always been the ones who have had the power to make decisions, the power to incorporate new ideas, and have a powerful role within society. Unfortunately, in some countries, women are not valued enough nor respected. There have been many cases within some cultures that women live a life of misery because they don't have freedom. However, in some countries women have gained the right to have the same power and freedom of a male. Many of these freedoms have to do with having a political role within society or having a role that empowers them. One of these roles is to be in the front line during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This showed that women were useful in combat as well as the men were. They were able to show their combat skills and their ability to adapt to new changes. While adapting to combat, women had to adapt to working with men and being trained by men. Many people did not approve of men training or working with females because they were afraid of "Sex scandals." That was one of the reasons as to why Germany believed having females in combat was ridiculous (Campbell). But since the older men were the ones training the young females, the females looked at the men like "grandfathers", rather than seeing them in a passionate or affectionate way. However, when both young genders were combined, they separated. According to Campbell, both genders were advised to not affiliate with each other out of duty. This was recommended because they did not want anyone to be affiliated in romantic way because romantic emotions were not a feeling to apply during combat. Regardless of both genders mixing, they formed a bond of loyalty with each other, which is something to do while at combat. As mentioned before, Germany was afraid of taking in women for combat because they were afraid of romantic relationships forming within the ones serving. According to Campbell, Hitler preferred that women would stay at home and be full–time wives and mothers. " Nazi women were to guarantee the survival of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Women in Combat "I 'm an American soldier too" Can a woman handle fighting in combat? Should women be able to come face to face with the enemy? Will women be able to control their emotions and take the horror that war inflicts? Should women be grateful that they are not included in such a terrible thing as combat, or is it wrong to exclude them just because they are women? I say if a woman chooses this kind of challenge, then she is more than capable. During the daring rescue of prisoner of war Jessica Lynch from an Iraqi hospital, the first commando to reach Lynch identified himself as a United States soldier. The 19–year–old Army private replied, "I 'm an American soldier, too." Jessica Lynch is more than a soldier, she 's a symbol, too — one who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a woman is not taken seriously, then how could she possibly achieve a role of leadership? Excuse No. 3: Women have an adverse effect on male bonding and cohesion in a unit. People were afraid the women might fall in love, or even get pregnant. However, Time has shown that military units of mixed sexes have quietly maintained order, accomplished missions, and passed operational readiness inspections with flying colors. They 're too busy doing their jobs to worry about who uses which latrine. Desert Storm is a classic example of mixed units performing as cohesive and effective teams even under fire. Excuse No. 4: Captured women possibly will be raped and tortured. Women who choose to join the military are already fully aware of this possibility. They become informed and prepared before they complete basic training. Every soldier understands that becoming a POW means the possibility of abuse and torture. As the experiences of Lynch and Spec. Shoshanna Johnson highlight, keeping women out of combat positions — both were with the 507th Maintenance Company when captured — does not protect them from becoming POWs and possibly facing this danger. Rape, of course, is not a torture restricted by gender, nor is the determination to withstand whatever the enemy dishes out. The qualities that are most important in all military jobs, things like integrity, moral courage and determination, have nothing to do with gender. On the day of March 23rd, 2003, the 507th ... • 15. Women In Combat Roles I read your article Maintain the combat exclusion for Women in the military, published at the New York Times online, and I have to say that I disagree with your belief that women should continue to be excluded from combat roles in the military. Throughout your article you made a couple good points, however, the majority of what you had to say was based off of a ridiculous and outdated societal view regarding women in general, not just women in combat. Over the course of centuries the role of women in society has drastically changed and evolved, now more than ever, women are heads of households, companies, and organizations. Why then should a women's role in the military be any different? I implore you to reconsider your stance regarding women in combat based off of the following information. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maj. Lisa Jaster, Capt. Kristen Griest and 1st Lt. Shaye Haver (Martinez, 2015) have all graduated from the elite Army Ranger School. Thanks to these women and their efforts, Army Secretary John McHugh announced in December of 2015 that all soldiers, regardless of gender are now welcome to participate in Army Ranger School. In addition to this, Defense Secretary Ashton Carter made the decision to open all combat related jobs in the military to any woman interested in and physically conditioned to pursue them (Donahue, 2015). The purpose of the Army Ranger course, just as any other combat related course is to teach soldiers how to overcome stress, fatigue, and hunger in combat (Martinez, 2015), so that they are able to perform at their best in extreme situations. • 17. Should Women Be Allowed In Ground Combat Women have been fighting alongside men on battlefields for centuries upon centuries, giving their greatest fight to lead their team to victory. Although women are given this opportunity, direct ground combat amongst women remains against the law till this very day, allowing a gender to define what a female can, or cannot do. The human race continues to evolve every day, yet a simple discriminatory law that decides what a woman's capabilities are without being aware of just how empowering that specific woman is is the same as it first was. Despite the idea that women do not meet certain requirements in order to take place in combat units, women continue to provide an endless amount of support to men on battlefields, bringing a completely ... • 19. Women In Combat Analysis Critical Response to the article: Women in Combat? These two may lead the way. (8/18/15) This editorial discusses the subject of women in combat. The army is primarily known for the men who fight for our country. There could however, be a turning point for women in the army coming in the near future. Two women graduated from the Army Ranger School this month, which is something a woman had never accomplished before. They had to complete this physically, mentally and emotionally challenging course, which is designed to be just like combat. Personally I idolize these two women who were able to complete this course. There were 19 women and 380 men who started the Ranger School course. • 21. Argumentative Essay On Women In Combat Women have been in combat since the beginning; when tribes fought over food and other materials. As centuries went on, women such as Joan of Arc and Bodecia fought as warriors. Women donned men's clothing during the Revolutionary War, the American Civil War, and the Spanish–American War and fought before being discovered when hurt or dead. These women include Deborah Sampson she served for over a year in General Washington's army and Molly Pitcher, a water carrier, single handedly kept a cannon in action after an artillery crew had been disabled. These women fought just as fierce in battle as any man. Over the years there have been mandates enacted, rules applied, laws passed, and regulations written, all aimed at preventing women from ... When in fact, some studies rival that women reduce the stress levels in the teams that they are on. "A 1997 RAND Corporation study reported that in some cases, having women in a unit might actually be beneficial for the men in the unit." ( It reported that in the gender–integrated units there were fewer incidences of men fighting and drinking to excess. The study attributed men's improved behavior to men confiding their problems to the women to in the units, thus, reducing the stress levels of the men. Our country's most recent conflicts have demonstrated that the military needs women on the battlefield. We need a woman's creativity, insight, and empathy qualities in combat. Having women in our platoons would have dramatically increased our ability to elicit critical intelligence. Since 2011 United States Special Operations forces in Afghanistan have embedded all–female cultural support teams in their units. The program has been lauded by commanders for gaining access to the 50 percent of the Afghan population who have previously been inaccessible. "Defense Secretary Robert Gates in September, for instance, told ROTC students at Duke University that he expects women to serve in special operations units, the kind of commando teams known for stealth missions." Women have thoroughly integrated into the armed forces; all positions in the armed forces should be fully accessible to women who can compete with men intellectually and physically. Yet, many argue that the distinction between combat and non–combat becomes blurred in the context of women warfare (Ladin; Holm, Hoar). In actuality, many women are assigned to jobs that will expose them to enemy attack, and this has been openly acknowledged by the top Pentagon officials. There are many grounds on which this argument could be disputed, but women have contributed greatly in past wars. They have served in combat in many skills during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam (Holm). One study (Binkin & Bach) found that many NATO and several WARSAW PACT countries employed women in combat roles during World War II. Russia was reported as using military women on the front lines. In Israel, where they are actually conscripted, women have also experienced armed combat. (Binkin & Bach) found that in the first phase of Israel's war of Liberation, one out of every five soldiers was female and they shared equality in both offensive and defensive battle situations. Holm found that some 7,500 military women served in S.E. Asia during the Vietnam War. She maintains that these women proved the modern American military woman is fully capable of functioning effectively in a military role in a combat environment, even under direct hostile fire. The United States Army has even conducted its own tests to examine the performance of individual units with women in the field, under simulated combat conditions (Hoar). When Defense Secretary Leon Panetta lifted the ban on women serving in combat roles, it opened up hundreds of thousands of additional front–line jobs to them and cleared the path for military women to serve in direct combat. His groundbreaking decision overturned a 1994 Pentagon rule that restricted women from artillery, armor, infantry and other such combat roles. • 27. The Argument Against Women 's Combat Debunking the Arguments Against Women in Combat There are many who would argue that allowing women, who are physically unprepared, to fight in combat would affect the cohesiveness and combat readiness of the units in which they serve. Government officials and military personnel are a just a few of the leaders behind this opposing argument. When asked about women in ground combat, President Bush summed up his position in four words, "No women in combat" (Curl and Scarborough A01). He supported his statement further by claiming that, "The policies currently in place that prevent women from fighting in combat have served our nation well. There is no reason to change what is already working. Our military is successful and will continue to be so" (ibid.). In saying this, however, he is providing an emotional fallacy to the listener. He is appealing with Americans to keep with their traditions. Bush also, unintentionally, gives a post hoc fallacy when he alludes to the fact that if women fought in combat, our military wouldn't be as successful. Furthermore, he makes the assumption that if women were allowed to fight in combat, they would negatively affect unit cohesion and male bonding, but he gives no evidence to support his assumption. Other opponents argue that women aren't really interested in fighting in combat, they're more concerned with the benefits they would get as a result. Senior Air Force leaders recognize the monumental contributions both men and women make in support of their country daily. Americans serving in any branch of service know it is not a nine–to–five job but rather a calling. It is about being a part of the Profession of Arms. Airmen are warriors. The third verse of the Air Force Airman's Creed states, "I am an American Airman, Guardian of Freedom and Justice, My Nation's Sword and Shield, its Sentry and Avenger. The armed forces prides itself on developing tomorrow's leaders but they are failing in developing a diverse group of leaders. "Minorities and women still lag behind white men in terms of number of military leadership positions" (Jelinek, 2011, p.1). The reality is that women are already in combat zones and dying for their country. The Department of Defense policies are sorely outdated and need to be updated to meet the needs of all today's strategic service members. Now that the need for the change has been defined, we will now discuss the arguments for and against women in combat. The American public has become accustomed to women in the military yet the same arguments exist about why women should or should not be in a combat role. The first major argument against women in combat is that women are inferior and cannot perform in a combat environment. There are no facts or studies that can substantiate that argument. • 31. Women Should NOT Be Allowed In Combat The influence of females should not be underestimated; they have the ability to be just as strong and powerful as men do. Their presence in physical warfare would make an enormous difference in the outcome of the battle because they offer so many advantages that most people overlook. They have the potential to be even more robust than men due to their willpower. If women could be admitted into combat forces within the army, how could it possibly have a negative effect? Women should be able to participate and fight in combat during times of war because gender does not limit someone's opportunity to train for combat, a bigger army equates to a more powerful one, and trained females are just as equipped as trained males. Women should be allowed to train and fight for combat like any other man because gender should not limit one's opportunity to participate. The women who want to train and fight for our country in combat are very strong and determined to serve in the military. Andrew Tilghman, writer for military times, confirmed "The Defense Department will lift gender–based restrictions on military service, Defense Secretary Ash Carter announced" (All Combat). I feel this could cause problems for the men as well as for the women if allowed to be there with jealousy and resentment. Neither emotion would be good to have while on the battlefield. The soldiers need to have their mind fully on the task at hand. The belief that women are incapable to meet the physical rigors necessary for ground combat has remained unchanged over the years even though evidence has been provided that proves otherwise. There are some military reports to show that some women have the upper body strength to meet the standards for combat. I believe it should be stated that there are women that are stronger than some men. Not all men are cut out to be in combat, but any man that wanted to do the job would be allowed to do so if he could meet the minimum physical standards. I don't feel that is fair. Should Women Be Allowed In Combat Women in Combat Countries across the globe have engaged in war since their very start; however, women have not been allowed full rights in combat; they have often been excluded or sheltered. Women formerly had little to no rights in war; however, over time they developed some rights ("History"). Since the 1940s, the combat exclusion policy has not allowed for women to take on front line combat or have the opportunity to gain certain leadership or ranked positions ( Women's Actions). Many feel this excludes women from having a full opportunity in combat and does not allow for proper career advancement (Service Women). Men look at women as weaker or less than them when it comes to combat, but if they meet the physical requirements then they should be allowed equal employment (Koren). Women should be allowed to engage in active combat to ensure equality and give service opportunities; women have proven themselves to be physically, mentally and morally capable of carrying out such duties ("Women"). In the 1992 Presidential Commission, it was stated that evidence "clearly shows the distinct physiological differences between men and women" and that women are at a "disadvantage when performing tasks requiring a high level of muscular strength and aerobic capacity." In all actuality, men are assigned to ground combat positions before undertaking physical strength examinations. They base it off medical evaluations, aptitude test scores and personal preferences. Thus, males are not removed from combat positions for a lack of physical strength, but women are banned from entering such positions regardless of physical strength. The push for equality by allowing women to serve in combat positions is not just isolated to a few military branches of service. Secretary Carter stated, "For the first time in U.S. military history, as long as they qualify and meet specific standards, women will be able to contribute to the Defense Department mission with no barriers at all in their way." (Pellerin, 2016). Based on the Secretary's recommendation, women will be eligible for all positions to include roles in combat. Senior leaders noted that this will provide a better selection of candidates, therefore increasing the quality of the selection process, (Commander Call Topics, 2015). The leading idea behind gender neutrality is to improve the military's position regarding well–qualified personnel in key positions, (Commander Call Topics, 2015). This integration is supported through equal opportunity for everyone who inspires to serve their country. The standards will remain the same, therefore women will need to pass the same requirements as their male counterparts, (Commander Call Topics, 2015). For the positive side which believes women should go into combat, say that this decision should be dependent on a person's skills and abilities to perform under these condition rather than their gender identity. Aside from this, there have been many recent developments in warfare technologies which accommodate to females bodies and many of these women can meet the physical and mental standards that are required for combat fighting. On the other hand, those who oppose women in combat are convinced that female soldiers have a higher chance of being sexually assaulted and that men and women have different physical standards. In addition, the critics of women in combat firmly believe that allowing women in combat weaken the military, therefore harming the unit. Every reason was valid and convincing, but I stand undecided on which side to support. Women in combat involve many different varieties of combat positions and people who are in the military must follow laws that can be different from laws in which a citizen follows. These laws are placed to prevent chaos."(Military Law). The history of women in combat dates back ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In other words, women would be safer if they joined the military. According to Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, people would have a greater respect for women (Women in Combat Units). This is important because it may cause less people to sexully assault or harass female. Research proves that the rape in our military does not mean less women should serve, but women should so they can be represented in more equal numbers (How the Military Can Lead). In addition, when Panetta lifted the ban, she may have affected the growing number of sexual assaults. Research proves that if males regonizes females as equals the amount of sexual assault may decrease (Ending Ban, U.S. Hopes). With females being recognized as equals, the sum of sexuals assaults will ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 61. Argumentative Essay On Women In Combat Women have always served in the military. In the American Revolution, they were nurses and cooks, then in World War II they were pilots, drivers, and mechanics too. When women died in the wars, leaders started wondering if women should only be in the military in times of crisis ("How Roles Have Changed for Women in the Military."). Even though women have served for decades, they have not been in combat for very long. In 2013, Leon Panetta lifted the ban on women in combat positions. Then in 2015, it was decided that all combat positions would be open to women, including special units like Navy SEALs (Silva). There are some who think women should not be given this chance. The two sides of if women should be in combat are very different but both have compelling arguments. The people in favor of women being in combat roles have many reasons but there are three main points. If women are as physically capable of being in certain military positions, they should get the same opportunities as men. If women were still kept away from combat, it could limit the choices for the most qualified person for the job. Women and men can both be trained to succeed in certain roles and if there are women who want to serve, why should they be turned away? Their last point was that being in a combat position is often necessary to get a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the reasons are that it is proven that women are not as strong as men. www.livestrong.com states, "According to the National Strength and Conditioning Association, women generally produce about two–thirds the amount of total strength and applied force that men produce" (Williams). Also, if women are serving, there is an increased risk of rape and sexual abuse. Even though men can experience these things, enemies are more willing to torture female prisoners. • 63. Should Women Be Allowed In Combat? Women have been fighting for equality throughout history. They have fought for their right to vote and they didn't get that right until the year 1920. They have also proven that they aren't just a housewife that they can get a job and make their own money and don't need a man to take care of them. Women have shown that they can do many things, but some people still don't see that. Women, who make up some 14 percent of the armed forces, should finally be permitted to serve fully in combat along with men. Opponents of putting women in combat question whether they have the necessary strength and stamina. They also have said the inclusion of women in infantry and other combat units may harm unit cohesion, this is similar to the argument regarding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarly, comitatus was a "Germanic friendship structure that compelled kings to rule in consultation with their warriors, forming a warband." It's essentially the "bond existing between a Germanic warrior and his Lord, ensuring that neither leaves the field of battle before the other." Craig Gallatin, a retired Lt. Colonel in the Army and graduate of Ranger School had this to say, "My concern with having both sexes in the same front line combat unit would be one of genetics. Throughout history men, especially American men, have been conditioned and trained to protect women. This will not be overcome easily and will result in men (and women) possibly losing their lives in combat because coms soldier ignored his primary duty (even if only for a moment) to "protect" the women fighting next to him. Shouldn't be, shouldn't happen, but it will. Sexual liaisons, though repeatedly dismissed among proponents of women in combat as prosaic are also a legitimate concern. It's just human nature. Gallatin observed, "Men and women are attracted to each other emotionally and sexually. This will create disruption in the unit and, in combat, possibly cost lives and/or mission accomplishment. It happens frequently in non–combat units where men and women are assigned. Jealousy, etc. are very disruptive things. It is genetic will not be overcome by training." (Qtd. in ... • 65. Argumentative Essay On Women In Combat While interviewing ten people, both civilian and members of our armed forces of varied sexes, all but one had a common concern with women in combat. They do not believe they should be integrated if they are unable to meet the exact same standards as the men who hold those positions currently. Staff Sergeant Pedro Campoverde (11B infantry), ex Drill Sergeant stated "women should have different standards. They are built differently from us males." He has recalled many instances where male soldiers were not able to complete certain tasks and would have to get assistance from other soldiers. This makes him believe that helping a female soldier would be no different. Although there are numerous jobs for women within our armed forces, they engage in activities that are designed to suit the needs of men. A woman trying to achieve the same results as a man often finds herself being injured and ending her career earlier than anticipated. People argue that not allowing a woman to fight is taking away her rights. Considering a woman will always be in greater danger than a man on the battlefield, her rights are being protected. There will not be an equal opportunity for survival when the odds are stacked against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The unpredictable nature of combat can cause major stress on the members of our military. This makes it almost impossible to make quick and well educated decisions. • 67. Women Should Be Legal For Combat Women should be allowed to serve in combat roles in the military Some argue that women should not serve in combat because; they have never served in any type of combat operations in the history of the American military. Positions in the military have been designed specifically for women and how they perform their duties. No evidence can be produced that women have the abilities, physical strength, or motivation to engage in combat operations, the physical differences from their male counterparts are so extreme; women cannot maintain the agility or psychological confidence that men are capable of displaying during extreme combat stress. However, this thinking misses the point. History has shown as far back as the Revolutionary War, women such as Molly Pitcher, who took up her husband's position as an artillery gunner, after he was injured in combat. More recently during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have had many women put into stressful combat situations, with very little training, and were able to engage the enemy effectively, and in some cases displayed courageous actions that saved lives. They were able to physically and mentally handle the combat stress equally with their male counterparts. Several women have also recently been allowed to attend advanced combat training, such as the U.S. Army Ranger School. Additionally, with much opposition to women serving in combat units, the Department of Defense has recently opened all combat related positions including ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 69. The Combat For Women 's Rights The Combat for Women 's Rights Throughout the decades, women in the United States and all around the world have struggled to be considered equivalent to men, both at home and in the workplace. Women have struggled with voting rights, less pay, lower positions in the workplace, and responsibility of maintaining household chores. Though women have gained voting rights in the United States, women still struggle with the other gender inequalities. In today's society, women are fighting with more diligence than before to end gender division. Women have made significant leaps and bounds of progress and are fighting to gain full equality. Society, however, still looks down on women and hands men power even with all the amount of progress women have made over the generations. Gender division is an issue that is important in our everyday lives and has momentous effects on the United States. Gender division can be seen through gender roles both in the home and positions and pay in the workplace. Women face several inequalities in the workplace and at home due to the perception of traditional gender roles or the responsibilities and behaviors considered gender appropriate by a society's cultural norm. These gender roles are an enormous component of gender inequality today. Gender roles are learned and taught at an early age from surrounding influences, as well as from their culture and community, not inherited at birth. • 71. Women In Combat Throughout our history, there have been many struggles that women have faced based on their gender. An issue that has recently risen is the idea of permitting women to take on combat roles in the military. Various opinions flood the minds of many which makes individuals question whether women should be authorized to take on such a task or not. Those who oppose women in combat do not want women, with the exception of nurses, to be stationed in any areas where there is conflict. They don't want women to be trained and expected to kill. The ethical issue is, should women be allowed to engage in combat? There have been many restrictions that have prohibited women from taking on specific roles in the military in previous years. According to one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This leads to the belief that there are differences between men and women, such as men have a greater ability in combat than women becoming a factor of why women should not be allowed. People claim that women, even if qualified, should not be used in combat because they are needed for other social functions. Men may fear the loss of masculinity and can disturb male bonding. Men who maintain traditional gender roles, may act foolishly in order to protect women in their units. According to one article, "The percentage of women is the enlisted forces continued to rise until it reach 15 percent in 2002, and then, it unexpectedly stopped growing and dropped slightly" (Armor, "Women in Combat: Rationale and Implications"). There is a higher percentage of men who enlist, compared to that of women. Another issue is that there are often reported problems of sexual assault and harassment of women in the military. A sexual assault cannot only cause a woman to loss faith or respect of her peers, but she may fear them. Whether it is unwanted advances or sexual assault, it can destroy a unit's ... • 73. Informative Essay: Women In Combat Women in combat There are women in the armed services. Women do put their lives on the line to protect America, this isn't some task that only men perform. Also, it's not just the armed forces that continue to keep America free. I think that men and women should be treated equally. If women would like to participate in the military they can volunteer. They could even be able to volunteer for front line combat positions. However, women should not have to be a part of the draft. Men and women have different bodies. Men endure pain better than women. Men do not explicitly feelings being hurt. They often endure, not to scream, request processing "wound" immediately like women. Women in combat hurt more easily and could not maintain the fight as long as men, simply because their bodies are different. Men are supposed to be tall, strong and brave. Average ... • 75. Women in Combat Roles in the Military Physical differences between men and women come up in careers such as the military. The military career requires great responsibility, dedication, and sacrifice. The key to achieving a good performance in this field is to have an excellent physical ability. Women with physical training can exceed men without physical training. In addition, women have to have great value to develop this type of careers. The equality and teamwork are two fundamental reasons too. Over the years, it has been thought that man is the only one able to do this work. However, a woman can be better prepared physically that a man. Therefore, women deserve to be assigned combat roles in the military. A few decades ago the role of women in society was to perform household chores and the care of children. Today there are thousands of women working as military. Physical differences between men and women are remarkable. Hypothetically, the physical capacities of women are lower than of man, because the man is stronger, taller, and has more muscles than women. Women usually are smaller, have less strength and have less body weight. Therefore it is thought that women are weaker than men. However, this is not true; women are physically well trained, and have the physical capacity necessary to develop in this field. It is important to be well trained physically because training increases physical capacity and develops the strength, speed, and endurance. Women with physical training can exceed men without ...
