1. Personal Profile
Jennifer and Jason were high achievers in high school. They got good grades but also were involved in extra-curricular activities, including religious, athletic, and scholarly pursuits. They came to the university well versed in modern communication methods (computers and mobile devices; social media) and often prepared to engage in research.
Their parents were highly engaged in the search for a university and in many cases applied some pressure on their students to attend BYU. BYU is part of a family tradition, and parents want their students to get an excellent education without breaking from their moorings of faith. After an initial year or two, these students broke off their studies to serve a two-year mission for the church, often traveling far and learning a second language. They returned even better prepared for academic life and focused on goals of service: to their family; to their church; and to their profession.
Jennifer and Jason are not afraid to jump out into the world. They love service projects and humanitarian causes and want to make a positive impact. They serve in leadership positions in their local church congregations. They love BYU football and men’s basketball and support other sports if friends or family are involved. They enjoy the arts and like to see fellow students perform. They work part-time to support themselves and to get valuable work experience.
They are proud of BYU and want it to be well regarded. They make their own contributions wherever possible to enhance BYU’s reputation and are aware that their actions represent the university and their church. In many cases, they are married with children. With their family, church, work, and school obligations they are under pressure most of the time.
