1. Pre production planning
What was the task
The task was to create a short video around 2 minutes long, containing all the skills and
technical codes that we have learnt.
How effectively did you plan it
My group made sure everything was planned before starting to film, that included the
elements that would affect the mise en scene for instance location, costuming, and
props. We had to ensure it all related to the chosen storyline we had created together.
Did everyone in the group contribute effectively - how could you improve
this for the main task
Yes, as a group me, Danielle and Reanna sat and discussed the possible scenarios we
could follow through with and then came to a decision on a specific one and went on to
take turns in the filming of the different scenes and the editing.
Talk about how you developed your creative ideas.
Knowing that we had to include every shot given we made sure the main part of the
video was a conversation as this made it easier to include them all.
Production
What went well on set/day of the shoot?
Due to us planning it before anything was going to be shooted we knew what had to be
done, so the shooting was easily done as we followed the plan we had. We knew when
to change the location or when a certain actress was meant to talk or not to.
What problems did you encounter?
The only problem i could possibly state is that you have to make sure the lighting for the
location you want to use is at a point where you are able to see everything in the shot
whether it be an actor/actress, costuming and props.
What have you learnt in terms of how you will run the shoots for your film
opening?
For my film opening i now know that it is best to make sure you repeat the same shot for
at least 4-5 times so when you get to the editing stage you are able to pick the best one
or if there isn't a preferable good shot you can pick different parts from the ones you
have. It just gives you options for when you want to put the film together.
Post Production
What do you learn in post production - technical skills/ What did you learn
about how thinking about editing can help when you are actually shooting
the footage
I learnt that with planning the camera shots and what i will be planning to do when it
comes to the editing stage it will be easier to complete the whole task quicker. The
technical skills become easier to do as you practise the variety of them available. It is a
2. good advantage to practise for when we want to film our actual video, as we will know
what works well when there is specific lighting or sounds.
Analyse - your P task
How effectively did you meet the brief - what mistakes did you make / What will
you improve next time
I think as a whole the P task was met correctly as i used the majority of the shots that
were meant to be included. The only shot i know i didn't end up using was a “graphic
match”, i found this a hard one to do as we couldn't find the correct way to input it into
our video. So for the actual video we are going to ensure that it is going to be in it.
