2. SYNOPSIS
This story is about a girl who is training for a big upcoming kick-boxing match
in New Zealand. However her training becomes an obsession, meanwhile her
supposed best friend turns against her and sabotages her chance of
participating to achieve victory.
4. CHARACTER INFORMATION
Emma (MAIN CHARACTER): She is a very sporty character that participates in kick-
boxing. She is dedicated and hard-working, however she finds it hard to keep up with
her social life especially her best friend Natalie. Emma doesn’t mean any harm but
seems to get herself into difficult situations. Her dad died when she was younger and
her mum is not very supportive of what she does. She has been bought up with a
rough background and has very little money, but took up kick-boxing to keep her
mind at rest.
Emma's character is very similar to the character Shania from Fast Girls who is also an
athlete who had a hard childhood.
5. CHARACTER INFORMATION
Natalie: She is Emma's best friend, however is quite jealous of the future Emma
has ahead of her. Natalie is of a higher class and is used to getting exactly
what she wants, therefore she doesn’t appreciate the hard work that Emma
puts in to her training. She isn't supportive of Emma and instead turns against
her as she feels she doesn’t spend enough time with her.
6. CHARACTER INFORMATION
Joe: He is Natalie's boyfriend. He creates a violent impression as he is from a
rough background like Emma. He has no motivation or respect for people that
work hard like Emma does. Joe is big-built and has a vicious approach. He
wears tracksuits and trainers, giving off a quite chavy look. He can come across
as lazy and mixes with the wrong crowds, such as gangs and criminals which
evoke bad behavior.

8. TITLE AND OPENING SEQUENCE IDEAS
We have discussed as a group that we are most likely going to do a continuity style sequence
for our opening, this will make it more realist and therefore relevant to the film. It will include
a range of shots which show different aspects of the main characters life. We also establish
setting and most likely some of the other characters which will be in the film in the opening
sequence; this will give the audience an idea of the story line, who will be in the film and
where about it'll take place.
For example, we may film a close up shot of Emma in the gym and different parts of her
morning routine. We may also film more tense, thrilling moments such as the lights flashing
on and off in the gym to give a feel for the sabotage aspect of the film.
Here is an example of a close up of a
face - taken from the film South Paw
(2015). We may create similar shots to
introduce characters.
9. APPEALING TO OUR TARGET AUDIENCE
We hope to entice our audience by making our opening sequence relevant to
what they enjoy watching. As a group we will have to make sure our opening
provides the feeling of a thriller and not just make it seem like a drama film.
With preparation we will ensure the opening is exciting enough to keep our
audiences attention, to do so we will most likely use relevant music and unique
shots which provide a sense of what the entire film will be like.
