‘Personality Swap’- A film by Kaitlyn Jarvis and Jonathan Foulston.
Directed by Jonathan Foulston / Produced by Kaitlyn Jarvis /
Starring: Zac Efron, Michael Cera, Black Lively & Jim Parsons
2. INTRODUCTION
• Our movie is a comedy aimed at the target audience of
pre-teens/older children.
• Due to this, we decided to produce the idea of a typical
cliché “coming-of-age” American high school movie.
3. NARRATIVE
Josh (Efron), a popular jock and well respected member of the soccer team,
starts
puberty later than the rest of his friends. This sees him gain spots, sweats
and facial
hair as he loses his friends, girlfriend Candy (Lively) and social status in
response.
However, Josh realises that being a nerd isn’t as bad as it seems and he
begins to
finally bond with his nerdy brother Tim (Cera) due to the sudden
similarities. Josh’s
family begin to grow closer as a collective after the tragic death of his
mother. Josh
eventually wins back Candy and as his old jock friends come to their
senses and
begin to accept him as he is. Although Josh decides to stick with hanging
out with the
school nerds but whilst also remaining close with the jocks.
4. CAST
Zac Efron plays Josh, a popular jock who turns into an awkward nerd
overnight due to
the effects of puberty.
Michael Cera plays Tim, Josh’s little geeky brother.
Black Lively plays Candy, the head cheerleader and the main girl interest of
the
movie.
Jim Parsons plays Josh’s father, who’s struggling with the effects of
divorce.
We chose to cast Zac Efron as a nerdy guy as he wouldn’t usually be seen
portraying that role. We also chose to cast Jim Parsons as the fragile,
insecure father as he is usually seen to play practically emotionless
characters. We believe that these decisions would possibly create a certain
amount of interest in watching the movie.
5. SETTING AND THEMES
Settings:
During the movie, the most featured settings include the high school of
which all of
the younger characters attend and Josh’s household.
Themes:
Personality Swap conquers the themes of love, divorce, acceptance and
growing up.
Conventions:
The movie contains many different elements of which can be found in many
other
Comedy movies. For example:
6. WHAT MAKES OUR FILM DIFFERENT?
• As we said earlier, Zac Efron and Jim parsons are portraying roles of
which they wouldn’t usually be seen performing. We believe that this is
a good selling point of our movie.
How will we create interest in the film?
• We will pay for 30 second movie advertisements on television and we
will also make sure that the full-length trailer for the movie will be shown
before all movies relating to the pre-teen and comedy audience to
ensure that fans of those genres will hear about the movie.
