Question 7: Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do you feel
you have learnt in the progression
from it to your final production?
Prelim Final product
Research
• There wasn’t a lot of researching and planning for my
preliminary task because it was very limited so we only did
magazine research on the internet because it was time
consuming.
• Whilst creating my final product I carried out audience,
magazine, font, article and photography research to ensure
I used the codes and conventions of a professional
magazine.
• I used primary and secondary research whilst researching
my target audience. For my primary research I created
questionnaires to gain feedback about my audience and for
secondary research I used the internet to find out how
media producers produce magazines and what audiences
they target.
Planning
Whilst planning for my final product it was carried out over a number of weeks. I carried out a various of
tasks which included:
• Flat plans
• photography test shots
• model costume and makeup research
• location recce
• Photoshoot plans
• Article drafting
• Photoshoots
• Model release forms
• Call sheets
• Location hazard and risk assessment
My Preliminary production and planning schedule was a lot smaller and was quicker to plan as all I did
included:
• Magazine research
• Finding fonts
• Taking photos
• Construction of magazine
The skills I have learnt my production process has enabled me to create a product which looks
professional and fits the pop genre of music and constructing and conforming to stereotypes of its target
audience.
Construction
The layout of my preliminary product is badly organised because the text is covering the main image. I used
Photoshop and InDesign to create columns and guides which allowed me to align my text accurately so that
my product looked professional. In my final product I used Photoshop to produce a professional product and
to make it look like a real magazine. I used downloaded fonts, image layers and photo editing. I didn’t use
these skills in my prelim task because I was unsure how to use these tools and that’s why my product didn’t
look professional. The colours I have used on my prelim are very dull, so I made sure I made my final
product bright and colourful so that it would catch the readers eye.
