2. I Stood Up
R- It shows a man as he deals with survivor's guilt after giving up his seat to a fellow passenger on
that tragic day in July. Giving up your seat on your daily commute to somebody who is less able is
seen as common courtesy. But what if this simple act becomes a matter of life or death? This film
could be seen as a representation of human nature and feelings of guilt. The purpose of the film is
perhaps not to represent any of the traditional themes such as race or gender, but the way that
humans behave. a person without values might just consider it a lucky escape but others might feel
that they have done something wrong.
I-Partizan LTD and Love Film Productions provided use of their facilities and equipment,Village
Underground provided the location and Colombo Art Gallery gave their support. the film is
directed by Lucy Tcherniak. The short was made because to rase the awareness of how the mind
can send you in complete confusion and also from a personal point she entered it in Smoke and
Mirrors 48 hour Film Competition.
V-the film has high production values and is shot in a traditional way using tripods, dolly’s and
cranes to steady the camera. Due to the subject matter of the film the director could have decided
to make it more realistic in style using handheld and steadicam but this is only used in one scene -
the tube. Funding however would have prevented her using a steadicam so it is more than likely that
the use of a handheld camera would have been present throughout.
A- The intended audience for the film are probably film enthusiasts, people in the industry and
students. I would say this because of the way short films are distributed. You actually have to go on
to the BBc shorts website to get this film. Short films are made to try and break into the industry
or as trial runs, or even projects to promote ideas or address social issues.
L- With the use of the technical elements it communicates to the viewer that the protagonist is
having a flashback and re-calling his events which took place when he was on the tube that day. This
is signified by the dissolves and the blurred shots which have been used throughout the film when
focusing on the main character.
I- The ideology of the film producers relates to the way in which they focus on how the they
would like the audience to decode the way which the the mind can confuse you into thinking that
you have made a mistake and how even though morally you have done the right thing in the first
place can lead to making a mistake.
N-the story is told through the protagonist who constantly recalls the actions which happened
that day and how everything could be different. What is the structure?
G-Due to the events and the nature of the story it is a drama potentially based on a real events.
Also due the fact that short films are considered a genre on there own it can be classed within this
category
3. Slap
R-A battered wife gets a once in a lifetime chance to change her life, when her husband suddenly chokes
on the food he is eating in the middle of them having dinner. This film is a clear representation of domestic
abuse within society and the fact that it continues even though the couple are married.
I-Uriel Emil directed, produced and wrote Slap, her message which she wanted to communicate to the
audience was that abuse happens, yet there is a way if you want and it doesn’t have to continue. However,
the only problem which the way Emil has conducted this escape is through killing the abuser which is
obviously morally very wrong.
V-Simple camera techniques have been used throughout this short film, this is because of two aspects that
the producer faced. The first reason was because of the low budget which this film was funded and more
important due to the minimal variation in camera technique the producer has allowed the viewers to have
full focus on the events which are taking place.
A- The target audience for this production could range from people who can relate the series of events
that have taken place in this short film or it could be simple to rase the awareness of the issue within the
house household. Due to the fact that the film is only available of the BBC short films website is likely the
only people who are going to view this are people within the film industry.
L-Emil has chosen to use simple techniques which follow the conventions of films and made the audience
to competely focus on the actions. There is clear extreme close up to show and set the scene at the
beginning of film which allows the audience to begin to understand the issue within the film. A tripod would
have clearly done the majority of the shots as it allows the director to film the entire footage with minimal
distraction. The scene which the female realizes that she is free would have been used with a track and a
dolly.
I-The ideology of the film producer relates to the way in which she wants the audience to focus on the
series of events which are taking place.
N-There is no dialogue throughout the film and which is told in a way through the protagonist’s
memories and actions.
G-As well as being a drama it also represents issues which are present within society so social realism is
also an appropriate genre to class this short film.
4. Night After Night
R-Sam is a homeless and weather-torn being. Unclean, unwashed, untidy. He lives and breathes in
the night, hidden from the world in order to forget his own demise. This is a problem within society and
the and many people are homeless. This is the chosen representation of the director and they wish to
represent homeless and lower class people.
I-The film received no known funding and was directed by Alex Paterakis, the film was made to show
how homeless people struggle in life and how there mind can make the situation worse for them rather
than help out of the situation that they find themselves in.
V-the film has high production values and is shot in a traditional way using tripods, dolly’s and cranes to steady

Isolated in his own thoughts, he drifts further into his mind and
away from reality, becoming a gaunt creature of the dark.
Struggling with his own past, his own mistakes, his own mortality,
he is a shadow of the man that he used to be. A memento is the
only link to a life past but not forgotten, a torment and a release
that haunts him.
