Treatment
BEGINNING – Introduces the main characters of the story and
shows their emotional state
MIDDLE – This is where everything changes and the equilibrium
is disrupted by news of the killer
END – The main protagonist is faced with a fearful, intense
situation. It finishes off with an ambiguous ending leaving the
audience to wonder what happens next.

Treatment
PURPOSE - Promote myself, skill, show reel
THEMATICS - The message that I’m trying to convey to the
audience is that of what many youth within todays society do
when faced with a traumatic situation and how they behave and
what consequences it leads to.

Character Breakdown- Malcolm
Malcolm is the main character (protagonist of the story) who’s
sister had died due to unspecified reasons. All we know is that it
was Azza’s fault. He has dreams and aspiration and a lot of love
for his friends and family, but when he loses his sister he feels
as if his world has fallen apart.
7. z
Character Breakdown- Azza
Azza is the typical antagonist (gangster) who comes across as
quite care free and reckless. He thinks he safe as he’s part of
his gang and thinks he can do what he wants and that nobody
can stop him, at least that’s what he thought until he was alone
and Malcolm showed up behind him.
8. z
Character Breakdown- Rumel
Rumel is a fellow relative and gang member of Azza and is
purely brought in by me to show how this cycle of revenge in
relation to knife crime is relentless and a never ending cycle,
message being it needs to stop.

In terms of mise-en-scene the locations include the school and park. Costumes include normal
stereotypical teenage clothes, hoodies and joggers. Lighting will be natural on a cloudy day of filming at
the park, and at school I will use white LED lighting to emphasise the cloudy day and this sense of
coldness around him as hears about the loss of his sister. Props to use are knives and phones, 2 things
that these stereotypical teenagers carry on a day to day basis. Character Movement with Boy 1 is very
restricted. He's very angry which you can see from his facial expression, but he is also in shock, crying
inside with pain of his sister's loss. His walk is very fast as he's not thinking this through, he's mind is flying
all over the place, he looks very unstable and very shaky hands with the knife, almost as if he's fighting
himself and he doesn't want to do it, his eyes tearing up. Boy 2 much more relaxed in the sense that he
tries to calm the boy 1 down by trying to bring boy 1 back to his senses and rethink what he's about to do,
by saying to him firmly to drop the knife, but he to is scared inside and you can see that through his face,
the feeling that he knew this was going to happen and that karma had come back to haunt him. Boy 3,
similar to Boy 1, is angry but not necessarily saddened emotionally at the the death of his brother, he is
more strong and determined to get vengeance for boy 2. In terms of camera movement I will be trying to
create a serious, tense, emotional and all in all dynamic atmosphere with my short film as this will allow
me to convey the message of the short film with best effect. Having a lot of closeups, focus pulls between
characters, and slow, smooth movements will help create this environment and really help the audience
understand the characters' emotions.

Post-Production
DEVELOPMENT – Editing. Feature film or TV series.
SCREENING AND DISTRIBUTION – Online for personal use,
Short film award ceremonies, contests such as film festivals.
Also on TV, during special times on the horror channel and also
on Channel 4 before the 7pm news. If released on DVD the
BBFC would give it a certification of 12 or 12a at max due to the
unglamorised violence, mild cursing, no nudity/ criminal activity
etc.

Post-Production
LEGAL & ETHICAL – Direct copy of others work, taking footage,
music and also using named brands and displaying products
intentionally.
Ethical consideration can be making sure that the film that I
create isn’t offensive in anyway whatsoever. Making sure for
example to not be sending out the message that knife crime in
the UK is solely a black youth issue, as it isn’t and is more of a
youth issue in general. If I don’t comply with this it can lea to
offense and all of the things that come after that including
complaints, negative talk in the media maybe even a protest or
ban.

Resources Required
I will need a camera to film footage. I will need a boompole,
microphone and headphone to record sound and make sure the
quality of the sound is good, for example in the park on a windy
day, the sound may not be recorded clearly so we may need to
record again but closer, or shoot on a calmer day without gusts of
wind. I will need a tripod for static shots that I want to keep as still
as possible. Static shots help to build tension as it stresses the fact
that not much is happening and that Boy 1 feels helpless like he
can't do anything, really us as the audience to focus on his
emotions. I think I will need an LED light for when Boy 1 is in the
school as well to light him with a subtle white light, emphasise the
cloudy day and this sense of coldness around him as hears about
the loss of his sister.

Target Audience
The target audience is going to be linked with the cast of my
film. Taking this into consideration, my target audience will be
15-24 year olds mainly males of socio-economic grouping E.
This is my target audience as this is the group of people that are
involved with knife crime the most and these are the main
people that I'm trying to get my message to. This group of
people are full time students, or have part time or full time jobs,
there disposable income is low as they don't work or have only
been working for some time, earning near enough minimum
wage.
