The document analyzes and summarizes three music videos:
1) "Blue Jeans" by Lana Del Rey, which uses a simple black and white aesthetic with wide and close-up shots to showcase the singer and setting.
2) "Primadonna" by Marina and the Diamonds, which features eccentric costumes and props with editing made to look like a static television.
3) "Anything Could Happen" by Ellie Goulding, which features the singer in a pink dress on a beach set with close-ups, long shots, and lighting that matches the indie song.
2. Blue Jeans – Lana Del Rey
• Blue jeans has inspired us as we love the way LDR engages the
audience with her flair and acting. It is a very simple video but one of
the best I’ve seen, I find it quite artistic in its simplicity and love it.
3. Editing
• She uses black and white, noir colours throughout the video which
goes well with the setting.
• The video in the beginning has a part where she ripples with the
water behind her which is effective as it looks like she is fading away.
4. Camera work
• Camera work used in the video is that there are many wide shots and
close ups, this is because the director may have wanted to show the
scenery more and then show the emotion given by the performer.
• There are a few mid shots whilst she is laying down, this is to signify
her laying down and her expressions.
5. Mise En Scene
• In LDR’s video, her set is made to look like a backyard where she and
her love interest are in the pool, we see the house in the background
in some shots.
• She is wearing a swimming costume that is stylised like the 50s.
• The lighting was quite light in some scenes despite it being black and
white which worked well with the video.
6. Primadonna – Marina and the Diamonds
• We chose this video as we liked the costumes she used and the
editing. We had to take inspiration from MATD as she is the singer of
our song choice, I particularly loved her pyjama costume and the
rollers in her hair so we decided to take that idea and incorporate it
into our own video.
7. Editing
• In some scenes the scene is made to look like a static television
screen, in the beginning we see her name presented and the title
song which looks like film titles.
8. Camera work
• There are different shot types in the video which I like as it makes the
video seem very fun and energetic.
• The main shot types are close ups, mid shots and wide shots, this is to
show more of the set, her costume and facial look.
• There is also an extreme close up to show the synergy in her
products, (heart on cheek).
9. Mise en scene
• MATD has a very eccentric mise en scene as the set has many props
and is bright coloured too to add to the fun of the video, the props
are mainly house props to possibly show she is being a house wife in
the video.
• She mainly wears dresses in the video which suits the style of the
video and constantly has the heart on her cheek showing synergy.
• The lighting is dark but has a spotlight on her which works well.
10. Ellie Goulding anything could happen
• We chose this video as we liked the outfit choice of the video, I like
the set/location of the video and also the lighting. It suits the video
and the song rather than it being dark.
11. Editing
• In the video there isn’t much significant editing but rather just shots
put together.
12. Camera work
• There are various shots in the video, mainly close ups and long shots,
this is to show the performers outfit, when she is floating in the sky,
moments between her love interest and when she is having a nose
bleed.
13. Mise en scene
• The set location is a beach with metallic balls floating and rocky
boulders around, this goes with the video as its quite indie and
matches the song.
• She wears a long pink dress in the video which would work well with
her fan demographic.
• The lighting in the video makes the video look quite light and upbeat
to go with the music.
