8. Scanning is a type of reading
strategy that helps you look for
specific information and facts
in particular.
9. What to consider?
1. Know the terms that you are looking for.
Then, decide on a few keywords, search terms,
and key phrases.
2. Read the questions again if the keywords you
found are relevant and useful to the information
you are looking for.
11. Skimming is a type of reading
strategy that helps you get a
quick overview of the text you
are reading.
When you skim, you get the
gist or the general idea of the
material.
12. What to consider?
1. Read the topic sentence carefully, and then skim
down through the rest of the paragraphs.
2. Read the first and the last sentence of each
paragraph.
3. Look for important pieces of information such as
names, dates, or events. Exercise keen judgment
when you search for information.
16. Intensive/Close reading is a
type of reading strategy that
helps you analyze a text in a
careful and purposeful manner.
17. The purpose of a close reading is to
squeeze the details from your chosen
text and use those details to formulate
an interpretation of a deeper meaning or
impression present in the text.
20. RETELLING is a type of
reading strategy that
helps you recall, order,
and summarize a text.
21. What to consider?
1. Your retelling should answer the 5 W
questions: who, what, when where, and
why.
2. Retell the text in the correct sequence
or order using your own words.
2. The mind is a muscle. It needs exercise. Understanding the written word is one way the mind grows in its ability.
3. A person who knows how to read can educate themselves in any area of life they are interested in. We live in an age where we overflow with information, but reading is the main way to take advantage of it.
4. Amusement is non-thinking activities. With reading, a person can go anywhere in the world...or even out of it!
5. Non-readers or poor readers often have low opinions of themselves and their abilities.
6. You are, right now, the result of words that you have heard or read AND believed about yourself. What you become in the future will depend on the words you believe about yourself now.
