2. Place Value
Place Value is used to organize and give values to
numbers.
Without place value we wouldn’t know if 1,234
was greater in value then 123.
If you have to use a decimal point you would put
a decimal before the units number. The reason
for the decimal is to separate the positive from
the negative.
3. Integers
Integers are whole numbers but have Negative
numbers as well as Positive numbers
Positive numbers are higher in value then the
number zero
Negative numbers are less in value then zero
You can add, subtract, multiply and divide with
integers
For Negative numbers there is a - sign in front of
the number
4. Rules For Adding And Subtracting
Integers
Rules for Adding Rules for Subtracting
Negatives Negatives
Neg+Neg=Neg Neg-Neg=Pos or Neg
Neg+Pos=Pos or Neg Neg-Pos=Neg
Rules for Adding Positives Rules for Subtracting Positive
Pos+Pos=Pos Pos-Pos=Pos or Neg
Pos+Neg=Neg or Pos Pos-Neg=Pos
A way to remember it is. If Positive a Negative are fighting (Pos and Neg or Neg and Pos) Negative always wins or Negative will
always be the answer. Also if the numbers are (Neg and Neg or Pos and Pos) then you will add because you already know how to
add and subtract positives. WHat you do with Negatives is they become addition.
5. Number Line
You use number lines for many different things.
You can add and subtract numbers. You can use
it to help you with fractions and much more.
The number line is mostly used for integers. Tx
he number line usually looks like this
The Positive numbers go to the right of the
zero. The Negative numbers go to the left.
