Using place value to organize the counting, ordering and interpretation of number
helps us to understand relationships between quantities.
2. Place Value
• Place value is used to organize math
problems.
• We also use place value to organize
numbers and it’s value.
• Place value is a key thing in math
• With out place value you wouldn’t
know if 1,865 this is one thousand and
sixty five or one hundred eight
thousand and six fifty.
3. Integers
• An integer can not be a half it has to
be a full number.
• Number lines help you add and
subtract integers.
• Integers are numbers like
1,2,3,4,5,6...10000.
• Pos+Pos=Pos
• Pos-Pos=Pos or Neg
4. Adding and Subtracting
negative numbers
A Trick to add or subtract
• Neg+Pos=Neg or Pos negatives is to look at the
• Neg+Pos=Neg or Pos minus or plus sigh
• Neg-Neg=Neg or Pos
-4+-7=?
Look at the add sign and
• Neg-Pos=Neg
the negative seven sign if
• Pos-Neg=Pos they are different you
subtract. -4+-7= or -4-7=-11
if you are subtracting
negative numbers you go
lower like -147 is less than -1.
-147 may look big but it is
further past zero than -1
