1. Name – Shahbaaz Singh Maan
Course – B.Sc Agriculure (Inte.)
8th Sem.
Roll No. – 135021064
Subject – Insect Ecology and
Integrated Pest Management
Topic – Chitin synthesis inhibitors
2. Chitin inhibitors interfere with process of synthesis
of chitin due to which normal moulting and
development is disrupted. Ex Novaluron,
Diflubenzuran, Lufenuron ,Buprofezin
Chitin inhibitors
3. Chitin synthesis inhibitors disrupt molting by
blocking the formation of chitin, the building block
of insect exoskeleton. Without the ability to
synthesize chitin, molting is incomplete, resulting in
malformed insects that soon die. It suppresses egg-
laying and causes egg sterility in treated adults
through secondary hormonal activity.
Chitin Synthesis Inhibitors
4. Diflubenzuron
Tradename:- Dimilin
Formulation:- 25 WP
Mode of action:- Stomach and
contact poison that acts by
inhibiting chitin synthesis so it
interferes with formation of
cuticle.
Affects on:- Apple moth,
Redheaded Pine Sawfly,
Plain leech wheat,
blue wheat leech, Jewel Beetle.
5. Flufenoxuron
Tradename:- Cascade
Formulation:- 100 DC
Mode of action:- Broad spectrum
Insect and mite growth
regulator with contact and stomach
action.
Affects on:- Sucking Insect Pest Of
Cotton Jassid, Thrips & Whitefly.
8. Teflubenzuron
Tradename:- Nomolt, Dart
Formulation:- 150 SC
Mode of action:- It is effective against
Lepidoptera, Coleoptera,
Diptera, Hymenoptera Aleyrodidae,
and Psyllidae
Affects on:- Lepidoptera, Coleoptera,
Diptera
9. Novaluron
Tradename:- Rimon
Formulation:- 10 EC
Mode of action:- It acts mainly by
ingestion, but has shown some contact
activity. It does not have ovicidal activity,
but a high percentage of mortality of first
instars hatching from eggs laid on
sprayed foliage occurs.
Affects on:- Spodoptera and Heliothis
(Caterpillars)
10. Buprofezin
Tradename:- Applaud
Formulation:- 25 SC, 70 WP
Mode of action:- Contact and
stomach, persistent chitin synthesis
inhibitor with miticidal action.
Effective against specifically on
Homopteran
pests.
Affects on:- Mealy bug, Leaf hopper,
Whiefly
