2. A HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCE CAN BE ANY SUBSTANCE,
WHETHER SOLID, LIQUID OR GAS, THAT MAY CAUSE HARM
TO YOUR HEALTH.

3. Corrosive substances: A substance that will react with and damage metals and can destroy the
living tissue, including eye and skin.
Handling : Avoid direct contact ,wash with plenty of water if spilled on clothes or body.
EX: Any acids and alkalis.

4. Radioactive substances : Radioactive substances are atoms that decay naturally and emits lethal
radiations that can pass through skin and can mutate cells and cause cancer.
Handling :Strictly follow the precaution written on the label.
always wear the appropriate protective clothing: ... always wear gloves
EX: Uranium, radioactive carbon

5. Flammable substances : The substance that catches fire by reacting with air. like petrol, kerosine oil
etc.
Handling :keep them from fire and heat/sunlight/ high temperature.
place them in dry and cool places.

6. Biohazardous substances: Any waste containing infectious materials or potentially
infectious substances such as blood.
Handling :Avoid direct contact , use gloves, dispose of in separate containers specified for them.
keep them from other waste.
EX: blood products ,clinical material infectious bacteria and viruses

7. EXPLOSIVE SUBSTANCES : Liquid or solid that can explode without the participation of
oxygen.
Handling : Use according to the instruction given on the label.
EX: mixture of hydrogen and air

8. Poisonous substance: Highly toxic in small amounts and cause serious health effects or
death when swollowed , breathed or even absorbed through the skin.
Handling : Do not eat, drink or taste, use according to the instruction given
EX: mercury, cyanide, chlorine etc

9. STIMULTIVE AND IRRITATING SUBSTANCES: that can cause severe burns or injuries ,breathing
problem after inhalation, cause Reddening of s kin or blistering
Handling :Avoid inhaling , use them in fume chamber
EX: acid , wood dust , chlorines gas, alcohol,
