Would you like to
know how to
whiten teeth and
have healthier
gums?
8 EASY WAYS TO WHITEN TEETH NATURALLY
You can whiten teeth naturally with products you probably have at home!
Our culture is fascinated with white teeth. In 2015, Americans alone spent over $11 billion on teeth whitening.
We are told by some experts that bleaching teeth is ok, then others warn of the risks of the chemicals used for
bleaching and long term damage to the enamel.
Then I read that Julia Roberts only uses baking soda to keep her smile bright. Which is right?
You have to decide. But, if you want whiter teeth, and also want to avoid the chemicals and the cost, then this
article lists many options that are both natural, safe and budget friendly!
These are easy natural teeth whitening ideas that you can do in the comfort of your own home.
You won’t get whiter teeth overnight, but stick with it and you absolutely will see the results.
Chemical bleach used in whitening products
Most whitening products use chemicals to bleach your teeth.
I tried white strips years ago which made my teeth super sensitive and achy after a few days.
When I found out the bleaching agents used are hormone disrupters…yikes, I definitely don’t need that! Those
went in the trash.
Instead I’ve used baking soda to brush my teeth for years, along with these other natural options listed below.
My dentist recently said, whatever you are doing, keep it up.
Natural Whitening Toothpaste
Before you read all the natural teeth whitening methods, just know that yes, I do use toothpaste also.
Since we are talking all about teeth, I feel I should at least mention toothpaste since we all need that too.
I never thought about chemicals in toothpaste. Ever. Until someone pointed it out to me one day.
I also didn’t know that natural toothpaste was an option. But it actually tastes really good and helps whiten teeth!
We know the mouth is one of the most vascular parts of our body, so it stands to reason when we put toothpaste
in our mouths, some of the chemicals and artificial colors will be absorbed into the body.
Artificial Dyes
You do not want to ingest blue #1, red #30, and yellow #5 in your food, let alone your toothpaste. Who knew,
right?
Do you really want those chemicals going into your children’s blood system? Twice a day, every… single… day.
It isn’t a little bit each day that hurts us. It is the long term build up.
Ironically, you will find that natural toothpaste is usually white.
You only need a pea size on your toothbrush instead of the long line we put down our toothbrush. So a little
natural toothpaste goes a long way.
There are pages upon pages of natural whitening toothpaste options on Amazon. I have also found it at TJ Maxx
in different flavors. I like the mint flavors.
According to Consumer Reports- Chemicals in Toothpaste
According to Consumer Reports, Triclosan, an antibacterial ingredient recently banned by the Food and Drug
Administration in some products, but allowed to remain in toothpaste, appears to accumulate on toothbrushes
and can be released in the mouth.
Triclosan may contribute to antibiotic resistance and disrupt hormones and immunity; it also has been linked to
tumors in mice. (Yikes!)
Triclosan is found in Colgate Total. The FDA allowed it to stay in toothpaste because they say the benefits of
removing plaque and gum inflammation outweigh the risks.
Do you really want to take that gamble with your health?
Triclosan is just one chemical in toothpaste. There are many more. Read your toothpaste box and see the list.
The FDA does not regulate the cosmetic industry the same it does the food and drug industry. Europe has
banned 1,400 chemicals from personal care products, Health Canada banned 600 chemicals and the U.S. has
banned a mere 30 chemicals. Until recently the US only had 11 banned. That is sad.
Buy safer products for yourself and your family!
Enough about toothpaste…. on to “how to get your teeth whiter!”
Top 8 Ways to Whiten Teeth Naturally-that actually work!
1. Baking Soda
2. Hydrogen Peroxide
3. Homemade Mouthwash
4. Water Mouthwash
5. Activated Charcoal
6. Oil Pulling
7. Whitening Foods
8. Brush After Eating or Drinking
1. Baking Soda
I swear by this teeth whitening home remedy that
calls for wetting your toothbrush and then dipping it
in baking soda (about ½ tsp) before gently brushing
the mixture on your teeth.
I have used this method for years and since I was
the only one using the baking soda, I didn’t mind
sticking my toothbrush straight into the box.
The baking soda naturally polishes and whitens your
teeth. It may take your teeth/gums some getting
used to, so take it slow if it causes any sensitivities.
Start by using 2-3 times a week and gradually
increase as your teeth become less sensitive.
As you continue to use this method, your teeth
should no longer be sensitive.
This is one of my favorite ways to whiten teeth
naturally!
2. Hydrogen peroxide
It is an antibacterial agent and works great as a total
mouth and gum cleaner and keeps the mouth free of
germs.
A good oral mouth rinse can be made using
hydrogen peroxide; use half water and half hydrogen
peroxide, swish around in your mouth for about one
minute, and then rinse.
Research shows hydrogen peroxide keeps breath
fresh by eliminating bad bacteria due to acting as a
natural antiseptic/antibacterial agent.
Hydrogen Peroxide is often used in dentistry today,
with its most common application to whiten your
teeth.
3. Homemade Mouthwash
This homemade mouthwash contains baking soda
and salt, which help build healthy teeth and gums!
It’s a quick fix when you don’t want to fully brush
your teeth after eating something.
It is so easy to make and keep in a small bottle in
your bathroom cabinet.
By using purified water, salt, baking soda and
essential oil you have a healthy mouthwash to help
fortify and whiten teeth, while also being free of blue,
green or yellow dyes found in common over the
counter mouthwash.
This recipe will definitely help you to whiten teeth
naturally because of the baking soda and salt.
 1 cup purified water, not tap water. (You can
boil 1 cup of water in the microwave)
 2 tsp. baking soda
 1/2 tsp. salt
 5 drops peppermint essential oil (can also
use cinnamon, orange or spearmint essential
oils)
 Put in a glass container and shake before
each use. Do not swallow.
4. Water Mouthwash
Another great way to whiten teeth naturally,
especially when you don’t have a toothbrush or
mouthwash handy, is by simply swishing water
around in your mouth following meals.
It’s a great way to cleanse the teeth which will help
prevent staining. This is just one more way water is
beneficial for your body.
5. Activated Charcoal Toothpaste
Activated Charcoal is the hottest trend in the health
and beauty market right now! It is being used in skin
care, face masks, beauty recipes and teeth
whitening.
Activated charcoal whitens teeth while pulling toxins
from the body. Use powdered charcoal or even
easier use a charcoal teeth whitening toothpaste
(like this one).
It polishes, remineralizes and whitens teeth all in the
comfort of your home. This stuff works!! I’ve recently
started using it and can see the difference.
With coconut oil, baking soda and peppermint oil
added to the activated charcoal, this toothpaste is
sure to help whiten your teeth. Use 2-3 times a
week.
Follow this up with a hydrogen peroxide swish for an
extra boost of whitening.
6. Oil Pulling
Just when you thought you heard it all when it comes
to coconut oil, along comes the news that coconut oil
pulling can serve as a natural teeth whitener.
I have not tried this but, some people attest to their
teeth becoming whiter and overall healthier by
applying coconut oil to their teeth after they brush,
and most people praise the results of oil pulling.
Simply put a spoonful of coconut oil (like this highest
rated one on Amazon) in your mouth and swish it
between your teeth for 3 to 5 minutes, or add a few
drops to your toothbrush and brush it on.
Rinse your mouth with warm water and then gently
brush your teeth.
7. Eat Whitening foods
A diet high in fruits and vegetables may be good for
both your body and your teeth.
While they’re no substitute for brushing your teeth,
crunchy, raw fruits and vegetables can help scrub
plaque away as you chew.
Foods to target are firm fruits and vegetables
including apples, cauliflower, carrots and celery.
These foods also produce additional saliva which
works to combat excess bacteria in your mouth.
8. Brush After Drinking or Eating
Avoid smoking cigarettes, drinking too much coffee,
tea and/or soda, improving your oral hygiene overall,
and eating a healthy diet also helps prevent yellow
teeth.
If you do regularly drink staining beverages, do so
through a straw. (Our family uses these, which can
be washed and re-used multiple times.)
Try to drink plain water after eating or drinking
something staining or acidic, to help reduce the
yellowing effects.
While some tooth discoloration comes naturally with
age, it is largely a result of plaque build-up.
Regular brushing and flossing can help your teeth
stay white by reducing bacteria in your mouth and
preventing plaque build-up.
How to Whiten Teeth Summarized?
After looking at my x-rays from my last visit, my dentist told me that I will have my own teeth the rest of my life.
He said, whatever you are doing, keep it up. What I do are many of the natural methods mentioned in this article!
If you wonder how to get whiter teeth, try some of these 8 methods.
1. Baking Soda
2. Hydrogen Peroxide
3. Homemade Mouthwash
4. Water Mouthwash
5. Activated Charcoal Toothpaste
6. Oil Pulling
7. Eat Whitening Foods
8. Brush After Eating or Drinking

8 easy ways to whiten teeth naturally

  • 1. Would you like to know how to whiten teeth and have healthier gums? 8 EASY WAYS TO WHITEN TEETH NATURALLY You can whiten teeth naturally with products you probably have at home! Our culture is fascinated with white teeth. In 2015, Americans alone spent over $11 billion on teeth whitening. We are told by some experts that bleaching teeth is ok, then others warn of the risks of the chemicals used for bleaching and long term damage to the enamel. Then I read that Julia Roberts only uses baking soda to keep her smile bright. Which is right? You have to decide. But, if you want whiter teeth, and also want to avoid the chemicals and the cost, then this article lists many options that are both natural, safe and budget friendly! These are easy natural teeth whitening ideas that you can do in the comfort of your own home. You won’t get whiter teeth overnight, but stick with it and you absolutely will see the results. Chemical bleach used in whitening products Most whitening products use chemicals to bleach your teeth. I tried white strips years ago which made my teeth super sensitive and achy after a few days. When I found out the bleaching agents used are hormone disrupters…yikes, I definitely don’t need that! Those went in the trash.
  • 2. Instead I’ve used baking soda to brush my teeth for years, along with these other natural options listed below. My dentist recently said, whatever you are doing, keep it up. Natural Whitening Toothpaste Before you read all the natural teeth whitening methods, just know that yes, I do use toothpaste also. We know the mouth is one of the most vascular parts of our body, so it stands to reason when we put toothpaste in our mouths, some of the chemicals and artificial colors will be absorbed into the body. Artificial Dyes You do not want to ingest blue #1, red #30, and yellow #5 in your food, let alone your toothpaste. Who knew, right? Do you really want those chemicals going into your children’s blood system? Twice a day, every… single… day. It isn’t a little bit each day that hurts us. It is the long term build up. Ironically, you will find that natural toothpaste is usually white. You only need a pea size on your toothbrush instead of the long line we put down our toothbrush. So a little natural toothpaste goes a long way. There are pages upon pages of natural whitening toothpaste options on Amazon. I have also found it at TJ Maxx in different flavors. I like the mint flavors. According to Consumer Reports- Chemicals in Toothpaste According to Consumer Reports, Triclosan, an antibacterial ingredient recently banned by the Food and Drug Administration in some products, but allowed to remain in toothpaste, appears to accumulate on toothbrushes and can be released in the mouth. Triclosan may contribute to antibiotic resistance and disrupt hormones and immunity; it also has been linked to tumors in mice. (Yikes!) Triclosan is found in Colgate Total. The FDA allowed it to stay in toothpaste because they say the benefits of removing plaque and gum inflammation outweigh the risks. Do you really want to take that gamble with your health? Triclosan is just one chemical in toothpaste. There are many more. Read your toothpaste box and see the list. The FDA does not regulate the cosmetic industry the same it does the food and drug industry. Europe has banned 1,400 chemicals from personal care products, Health Canada banned 600 chemicals and the U.S. has banned a mere 30 chemicals. Until recently the US only had 11 banned. That is sad. Buy safer products for yourself and your family! Enough about toothpaste…. on to “how to get your teeth whiter!”
  • 3. Top 8 Ways to Whiten Teeth Naturally-that actually work! 1. Baking Soda 2. Hydrogen Peroxide 3. Homemade Mouthwash 4. Water Mouthwash 5. Activated Charcoal 6. Oil Pulling 7. Whitening Foods 8. Brush After Eating or Drinking 1. Baking Soda I swear by this teeth whitening home remedy that calls for wetting your toothbrush and then dipping it in baking soda (about ½ tsp) before gently brushing the mixture on your teeth. I have used this method for years and since I was the only one using the baking soda, I didn’t mind sticking my toothbrush straight into the box. The baking soda naturally polishes and whitens your teeth. It may take your teeth/gums some getting used to, so take it slow if it causes any sensitivities. Start by using 2-3 times a week and gradually increase as your teeth become less sensitive. As you continue to use this method, your teeth should no longer be sensitive. This is one of my favorite ways to whiten teeth naturally! 2. Hydrogen peroxide It is an antibacterial agent and works great as a total mouth and gum cleaner and keeps the mouth free of germs. A good oral mouth rinse can be made using hydrogen peroxide; use half water and half hydrogen peroxide, swish around in your mouth for about one minute, and then rinse. Research shows hydrogen peroxide keeps breath fresh by eliminating bad bacteria due to acting as a natural antiseptic/antibacterial agent. Hydrogen Peroxide is often used in dentistry today, with its most common application to whiten your teeth. 3. Homemade Mouthwash This homemade mouthwash contains baking soda and salt, which help build healthy teeth and gums! It’s a quick fix when you don’t want to fully brush your teeth after eating something. It is so easy to make and keep in a small bottle in your bathroom cabinet. By using purified water, salt, baking soda and essential oil you have a healthy mouthwash to help fortify and whiten teeth, while also being free of blue, green or yellow dyes found in common over the counter mouthwash. This recipe will definitely help you to whiten teeth naturally because of the baking soda and salt.  1 cup purified water, not tap water. (You can boil 1 cup of water in the microwave)  2 tsp. baking soda  1/2 tsp. salt  5 drops peppermint essential oil (can also use cinnamon, orange or spearmint essential oils)  Put in a glass container and shake before each use. Do not swallow. 4. Water Mouthwash Another great way to whiten teeth naturally, especially when you don’t have a toothbrush or mouthwash handy, is by simply swishing water around in your mouth following meals. It’s a great way to cleanse the teeth which will help prevent staining. This is just one more way water is beneficial for your body.
  • 4. 5. Activated Charcoal Toothpaste Activated Charcoal is the hottest trend in the health and beauty market right now! It is being used in skin care, face masks, beauty recipes and teeth whitening. Activated charcoal whitens teeth while pulling toxins from the body. Use powdered charcoal or even easier use a charcoal teeth whitening toothpaste (like this one). It polishes, remineralizes and whitens teeth all in the comfort of your home. This stuff works!! I’ve recently started using it and can see the difference. With coconut oil, baking soda and peppermint oil added to the activated charcoal, this toothpaste is sure to help whiten your teeth. Use 2-3 times a week. Follow this up with a hydrogen peroxide swish for an extra boost of whitening. 6. Oil Pulling Just when you thought you heard it all when it comes to coconut oil, along comes the news that coconut oil pulling can serve as a natural teeth whitener. I have not tried this but, some people attest to their teeth becoming whiter and overall healthier by applying coconut oil to their teeth after they brush, and most people praise the results of oil pulling. Simply put a spoonful of coconut oil (like this highest rated one on Amazon) in your mouth and swish it between your teeth for 3 to 5 minutes, or add a few drops to your toothbrush and brush it on. Rinse your mouth with warm water and then gently brush your teeth. 7. Eat Whitening foods A diet high in fruits and vegetables may be good for both your body and your teeth. While they’re no substitute for brushing your teeth, crunchy, raw fruits and vegetables can help scrub plaque away as you chew. Foods to target are firm fruits and vegetables including apples, cauliflower, carrots and celery. These foods also produce additional saliva which works to combat excess bacteria in your mouth. 8. Brush After Drinking or Eating Avoid smoking cigarettes, drinking too much coffee, tea and/or soda, improving your oral hygiene overall, and eating a healthy diet also helps prevent yellow teeth. If you do regularly drink staining beverages, do so through a straw. (Our family uses these, which can be washed and re-used multiple times.) Try to drink plain water after eating or drinking something staining or acidic, to help reduce the yellowing effects. While some tooth discoloration comes naturally with age, it is largely a result of plaque build-up. Regular brushing and flossing can help your teeth stay white by reducing bacteria in your mouth and preventing plaque build-up. How to Whiten Teeth Summarized?
