• The Nazis hoped to win power through
a violent overthrow of the Weimar
Republic.
• Mussolini had come to power in Italy in
1922 through a demonstration of force.

• The Munich Putsch was a humiliating defeat for the Nazis
and Hitler was trialled and imprisoned.
