In what ways does your media
product use, develop, or challenge
forms an conventions of media
products?
 The magazine across the 4 pages, ‘repeats’ (Steve Neale), the
codes and conventions of many well established magazines
including magazine such as NME, Q, Vibe. Many magazines
gave me a focus so that I can repeat certain aspects of each
magazine like the structure, font and the design of the
magazines. I created a similar convention as I thought that it
would be effective seeing that all these magazines have been
very successful in their work. My double page spread was
influenced by NME magazines because I have included a big
exclusive.

How does your media product
represent particular social
groups?
 The denotation of representation is to social groups which are fans
of the musical genre of progressive deep house and electro. This
particular social group would be likely to enjoy their time at festivals
like Lovebox and Nass and will also enjoy going to their favorite
artists concerts.. They want to go and watch their favorite artists, for
example Aluna George, and Karen Harding. Consequently, the
social groups that are interested in Electro music and progressive
deephouse would enjoy going to watch their favorite artists perform
live. Therefore my media production denotes the sense of being a
fan for the genre of music I have chosen. For example I have given
them the chance to win tickets to go and see Chase and Status on
the contents page. I used this in my magazine because I knew that
it would be successful through the social groups.

What kind of media institution
(Publisher) might distribute your
media product and why?
 From my research, I can’t find any sort of magazines
that focus on the genre of music that I have focused on.
It’s a rare kind of music. I have found out that a media
distribution that may distribute my media product is
because of the magazines they tend to produce. I have
looked at many different magazines of inspiration
seeing as my genre of music doesn't’t have many
magazines focused on it. However a magazine I did
like was NME, due to the many conventions that they’ve
used. I have made the font of my magazine very similar
to NME’s because it looks high quality and professional
and I think that my masthead being in this font will be a
USP (unique selling point).

Who would be the audience for
your media product and why?
 According to Hartley's 7 subjectivities the audience of my magazine tempo are both of the male and
female gender between the ages of 16-25. This is because the music I have focused my magazine on, is
electro and deep house. Electro and progressive deep house is very popular with this age group. As my
magazine ‘Tempo’ is focused on this genre, this is why my target audience is the same because they will
be engaged by what we have included in our magazine, like certain artists they will be intrigued by and
influenced by.
 According to Katz’ Uses and Gratifications theory, the target audience will want to ‘Personal identify’ with
the artists. The consumers will buy my magazine because they like what they see and who my magazine
interviews therefore they want to identify with their idols, and want to find out more about them.
 According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs theory, the audience will want to ‘Social Climb’ when reading
my magazine. Social climbers look at something or someone that they idolize, and are inspired by them
and will aim to be like them. They climb the social ladder of being superior to everyone. For example
Social Climbers will read my magazine and see something they like for example a piece of clothing they
like, therefore they want it and will go out and get it as well. This is a prime example of a social climber.

How did you attract/address your
audience?
 I attracted the audience by including many codes and conventions that would
help me sell my magazine including convergence and puff/promotion. This is
because Electro and Progressive deep house is a genre of music which is
growing in popularity amongst young people in society. Therefore a way of
appealing to the young people is through convergence, as the awareness of
my magazine will increase. Loads and loads of young people in todays society
in my target age group 16-25 spend hours on social networking sites, therefore
the use of convergence will increase the popularity to others because more
people will know about it through going on twitter, facebook, and a website. The
use of puff/promotion within my magazine is that I’m offering people the chance
to win tickets to go and see Chase and Status live. This increases the attraction
from the audience because people will really want to win tickets to go and see
one of their favorite artists. Things like this chance to win tickets will be in
regular magazine issues.

What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
 In order for this magazine to attract the target
audience, I chose to create the font cover using a
full image where I made some changes on
Photoshop to the image itself. I felt as if the
image worked really well because I used the
rectangular marquee tool to crop the image that I
wanted to use. I used the pen tool on my double
page spread for my text. The pen tool helps me
to make my double page look professional and
neat because you use it to make different shapes
for your text box so that it can curve round an
image for example.

Looking back at your pleminary
task, what do you feel you have
learnt in the progression for the
full product.
 I feel that, having completed the preliminary task and learning
about the demands of this production process, I have learnt
that you need to use your time more wisely instead of maybe
wasting it on stuff that doesn’t necessarily need to have loads
of time spent on it. You need to focus on the small details that
will make your product more well established.

more consumers and increase their
production rate because more people
will sign up so that they have a

attracting an audience, especially when
they’re a star because when ‘star
appeal’ (Richard Dyer) is used, then
more people will see their favorite
stars, they want to read about them.
Issue, date and barcode: These

and ways to contact the magazine.

stuff, this increases buys because people will want
the chance to winning something.

this one.

is again used for the same reason so
that the magazine can be shown on
different social networking sites.

  • 2. + In what ways does your media product use, develop, or challenge forms an conventions of media products?  The magazine across the 4 pages, ‘repeats’ (Steve Neale), the codes and conventions of many well established magazines including magazine such as NME, Q, Vibe. Many magazines gave me a focus so that I can repeat certain aspects of each magazine like the structure, font and the design of the magazines. I created a similar convention as I thought that it would be effective seeing that all these magazines have been very successful in their work. My double page spread was influenced by NME magazines because I have included a big exclusive.
  • 3. + How does your media product represent particular social groups?  The denotation of representation is to social groups which are fans of the musical genre of progressive deep house and electro. This particular social group would be likely to enjoy their time at festivals like Lovebox and Nass and will also enjoy going to their favorite artists concerts.. They want to go and watch their favorite artists, for example Aluna George, and Karen Harding. Consequently, the social groups that are interested in Electro music and progressive deephouse would enjoy going to watch their favorite artists perform live. Therefore my media production denotes the sense of being a fan for the genre of music I have chosen. For example I have given them the chance to win tickets to go and see Chase and Status on the contents page. I used this in my magazine because I knew that it would be successful through the social groups.
  • 4. + What kind of media institution (Publisher) might distribute your media product and why?  From my research, I can’t find any sort of magazines that focus on the genre of music that I have focused on. It’s a rare kind of music. I have found out that a media distribution that may distribute my media product is because of the magazines they tend to produce. I have looked at many different magazines of inspiration seeing as my genre of music doesn't’t have many magazines focused on it. However a magazine I did like was NME, due to the many conventions that they’ve used. I have made the font of my magazine very similar to NME’s because it looks high quality and professional and I think that my masthead being in this font will be a USP (unique selling point).
  • 5. + Who would be the audience for your media product and why?  According to Hartley's 7 subjectivities the audience of my magazine tempo are both of the male and female gender between the ages of 16-25. This is because the music I have focused my magazine on, is electro and deep house. Electro and progressive deep house is very popular with this age group. As my magazine ‘Tempo’ is focused on this genre, this is why my target audience is the same because they will be engaged by what we have included in our magazine, like certain artists they will be intrigued by and influenced by.  According to Katz’ Uses and Gratifications theory, the target audience will want to ‘Personal identify’ with the artists. The consumers will buy my magazine because they like what they see and who my magazine interviews therefore they want to identify with their idols, and want to find out more about them.  According to Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs theory, the audience will want to ‘Social Climb’ when reading my magazine. Social climbers look at something or someone that they idolize, and are inspired by them and will aim to be like them. They climb the social ladder of being superior to everyone. For example Social Climbers will read my magazine and see something they like for example a piece of clothing they like, therefore they want it and will go out and get it as well. This is a prime example of a social climber.
  • 6. + How did you attract/address your audience?  I attracted the audience by including many codes and conventions that would help me sell my magazine including convergence and puff/promotion. This is because Electro and Progressive deep house is a genre of music which is growing in popularity amongst young people in society. Therefore a way of appealing to the young people is through convergence, as the awareness of my magazine will increase. Loads and loads of young people in todays society in my target age group 16-25 spend hours on social networking sites, therefore the use of convergence will increase the popularity to others because more people will know about it through going on twitter, facebook, and a website. The use of puff/promotion within my magazine is that I’m offering people the chance to win tickets to go and see Chase and Status live. This increases the attraction from the audience because people will really want to win tickets to go and see one of their favorite artists. Things like this chance to win tickets will be in regular magazine issues.
  • 7. + What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?  In order for this magazine to attract the target audience, I chose to create the font cover using a full image where I made some changes on Photoshop to the image itself. I felt as if the image worked really well because I used the rectangular marquee tool to crop the image that I wanted to use. I used the pen tool on my double page spread for my text. The pen tool helps me to make my double page look professional and neat because you use it to make different shapes for your text box so that it can curve round an image for example.
  • 8. + Looking back at your pleminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression for the full product.  I feel that, having completed the preliminary task and learning about the demands of this production process, I have learnt that you need to use your time more wisely instead of maybe wasting it on stuff that doesn’t necessarily need to have loads of time spent on it. You need to focus on the small details that will make your product more well established.
  • 12. + Analysis of front cover Masthead: This identifies the magazine to carry on acknowledging the magazine. Subscription: This is a way of getting more consumers and increase their production rate because more people will sign up so that they have a subscription. Main central image: This is a way of attracting an audience, especially when they’re a star because when ‘star appeal’ (Richard Dyer) is used, then more people will see their favorite stars, they want to read about them. Issue, date and barcode: These are the typical just basic thing you need when selling a product like this one. Cover line: This is another way of intriguing the audience in to read by showing what other stories to the magazine Strapline: To show the audience that its well established magazine which is worth the read. Convergence: The way of letting people know about the magazine through social networking sites.
  • 13. + Analysis of Contents page Editorial: This is a way of introducing the magazine and to show what sort of stories will be involved in this issue. It also contains a picture of the editor and ways to contact the magazine. Puff/Promotion: This is the way of people winning stuff, this increases buys because people will want the chance to winning something. Issue, date and barcode: These are the typical just basic thing you need when selling a product like this one.
  • 14. + Analysis of double page spread Image: This is the image and is used to support the main story seeing as it’s the double page spread. Interview: I differentiated the interview to make the separation of the questions and the answers more clearer. Title: This gives a headline to the story. The use of ‘tells’ and ‘everything’ in bold makes the reader engaged because they know that a lot will be revealed. Convergence: The use of convergence is again used for the same reason so that the magazine can be shown on different social networking sites.
