A2 Media Evalutation Question 4
1. Evaluation Question 4
How did you use media technologies in the
construction and research , planning and evaluation
stages?
2. Google was a media technology that I
took advantage of!. I used Google for the
majority of my Primary and Secondary
research..
Googled allowed me to research
important theories, relating to music
videos such as, Andrew Goodwin’s theory
extracted from the book Dancing In The
Distraction Factory. By learning this
theory it allowed me to gain a solid
foundation of the theory behind music
videos. By using Google I was also able
to learn about the making of MTV which
helped me to learn that music videos are
a universal concept..
3. YouTube played a major role when
researching and uploading my music videos!
YouTube allowed me to watch other
music videos..such as ‘Scars by James
Bay’ which was one of my biggest
inspirations when creating my music
video’s.. It also allowed me to view work
that my peers had created, giving me an
understanding of I needed to compete
with..
However YouTube also allowed me to
upload my own content.. Allowing others
to view,comment and like/dislike my
videos. This was very helpful when
obtaining feedback from my target
audience.
4. YouTube also allowed me to watch tutorials
of how to edit in Final Cut, how to use
Photoshop and even how to create music
videos!
By using YouTube, I was able to watch
behind the scenes footage from sets of
music videos.. By doing so they allowed
me to gain a better idea for how a
music video was made..e.g. Inspiration
behind the music video,the cameras
and equipment they use and the editing
software they used!
YouTube also gave me the opportunity
to follow Photoshop tutorials to be able
to create my digi pack, giving me a
better understanding of how to create
pathways in Photoshop.
5. Facebook acted as a great promotional tool
for my music video!
Facebook allowed me to copy the links
from YouTube of my music videos and
post them to my Facebook page. By
doing this I was easily able to create a
post of Facebook which I could then
share to my ‘Facebook Friends’ who
could then have easy access to
watch, comment and like my videos! I
was able to obtain a lot of feedback
from the people who had viewed the
videos.. Offering me plenty of advice
and guidance! It also allowed me to
watch other students music videos as
they were also sharing their own music
videos on Facebook.
6. Outlook, a form of email, allowed me to get
in touch with people!
Through the use of E-mail I was able
to get in touch with professionals in
the industry! Email address for record
companies and music video product
companies are readily available
online.. Therefore I got in touch with
Mathy and Fran and Benno Nelson
and Nils d’Aulaire (both directors for a
James Bay music video!) This allowed
me to gain great advice and feedback
on my videos from them!
7. Survey Monkey is a free online platform,
which allows you to create free surveys
which you can share online
By using SurveyMonkey, I was able to
create many different surveys all tailored
how I needed them to look. I was able to
incorporate important questions about my
music video ideas and digipack ideas. I
could then get people from my target
audience to fill these questionnaires out
which allowed me to obtain crucial
feedback from my target audience,
helping me to make better decisions with
my music video and digipak.
8. Infogr.am is a free online website that
allows you to put your data into a variety
of charts and graphs
By finding out about Infogr.am I was able to
use all my data that I had collected from
SurveyMonkey and place it into a range of
graphs and charts. By doing so I was able to
easily review the data that I had collected
and it also made it easy for others to view
that same data..
It means that I can quickly look back on any
information that I had gathered from months
ago and easily be able to re understand
what my target audience preferences are!
9. This is a Nikon DSLR camera
I was able to use two of these DLSR
camera’s by placing one on a still tripod
whilst using one as a handheld camera, to
create a multi camera effect!. This media
technology allowed me to capture my music
video and I was able to swap out the lens’ in
order to gain the correct depths, zooms and
perspectives! Without this media technology
I wouldn't have been able to gain such clear
shots.
10. This is a spotlight, a form of lighting that I
used in my music video.
This spotlight, a form of media
technology, allowed me to add an
extra touch to my music video. It
allowed me to gain some interesting
shot by creating lens flares! It also
helped me to light up my set better
allowing for a more professional feel
to my ‘acoustic session’ music video.
11. Photoshop is a piece of software that
can be used to edit and create images.
Photoshop played a major part when
creating my digi pack. After taking
pictures I solely relied on photoshop to
help me create the different effects that I
needed to achieve. It allowed me to turn
photographs into drawings and also
allowed me to use overlays to add in
other images to my digi pack, such as the
brick wall effect that you can see
throughout my digi pack. It also enabled
me to place my text wherever I needed it
to go, I used the pathway tool in order to
customise my own text pathways, this
came in handy when putting text onto my
cd template.
12. Final Cut Pro is a great piece of
software that allows you to edit video
footage.
Final Cut Pro was one of the most
helpful media technologies I had
available to me! I used Final Cut Pro to
edit all of the music videos that I created
and all of the different variations that I
made!, I utalised the software and
managed to edit all of my music video
on it. It allowed me to layer video
footage, blade clips,color-grade and add
on letterboxes. It enabled me to obtain a
professional looking music video, as I
was able to take advantage of the
multiple professional features such as
the ‘colour board’.
13. Dafont is an online site that allows you
to download custom fonts.
Dafont really helped me to create a more
professional looking digipak and music
video. I was able to browse through
thousands of custom fonts and download
the best suited fonts. This really allowed me
to add a personal touch to my digi pack by
downloading signatures ‘style font’ that
looked personal. This media technology
was a really important part of the overall
aesthetics of my media packages. I was
also able to use the fonts in Final Cut Pro
as well as Photoshop which meant I could
create synergy between my music video
and digipak, by using the same fonts!
