How Did You Use Media
Technologies in the
Construction, Research, Planning
and Evaluation Stages?

Research
 During the progress of creating my
advanced portfolio, research was a
key part which enabled me to collect
vast amounts of information on
various different products. This
allowed me to develop my products
as I was able to find the forms and
conventions of each individual
element of creating my promotional
package.
 I often used blogger to research
existing media blogs created by
previous students at my college. By
looking at their blogs it allowed me to
find different ways to research on the
internet what I wanted to include
onto my blog. This also helped me to
plan my own ideas and further
contributing to making my advanced
portfolio.
Youtube
 When initially researching into the music genre
I wanted to choose to create my music video, I
accessed YouTube to look at exisiting music
videos. This was useful as when I decided to
analyse three different music videos in my
chosen genre, the recommended for you
toolbar gave me options to find more music in
the indie folk genre.
 Google- the online search engine
was essential to create my
advanced portfolio as I was able
to research existing products via
web 2.0. Also by searching key
words or elements such as ‘indie
folk’ or ‘indie music’ I was able to
find very specific images/website
links directing me straight to the
research I wanted. Also as Google
is an extremely successful search
engine, the majority of
information I needed would have
been easily found.
Slideshare
 Slideshare was an useful technology
to use during the planning stages of
making my products as it allowed me
to transfer power point presentations
into slideshows so that they could be
easily viewable on my blog. This
meant that I could collectively put all
my ideas together and then present
them in this format rather then a
presentation.
Microsoft Powerpoint
 When planning on how
I was going to
construct my
promotional package, I
used PowerPoint as it
allowed me to develop
my ideas further as it
was possible to import
many different
images,movies,sounds
which essentially made
my plans clearer to
read and more
organised.
Blogger
 During the production the main use of
blogger was to document the development
of my ideas. Allowing me to embed various
different media forms making my
information more clearly presented but also
more visual then simply text.
 Blogger also allowed me to add polls so
that I could ask my target audience their
favourite type of music and were they
bought their music this allowed me to
interact online with my peers and audience
market.
BLOGGER
By using Blogger, during the research stages I was able
to research existing media blogs from my college,
allowing me to see what previous students had created
for their advanced portfolios. This was really useful, as
it allowed me to see how they had found their
research and planning, opening up more ideas and
concepts for me to use.
Tripod/Video Camera
 During the construction of my music video,
I used a camera and tripod to film my
music video. The tripod allowed the shots
to be more stable and avoided the clips
being distorted or not aligned correctly. It
also prevented shaking of the camera if I
decided to use it handheld. The video
camera and tripod used was one booked
out from college. And used a memory card
to save the clips, this was quite useful to
use as it meant that I could just import the
clips onto my computer rather then a
traditional format of using tape.
 Dafont is an online font website where
artists can allow other users to use their
fonts.
 I found Dafont useful when creating my
ancillary texts as it allowed me to
research different fonts that would fit well
within my target genre but also on my
digipak and website designs. As you can
see, when researching I came up with
several name ideas and decided which
font would suit the name best.
DAFONT
 Prezi is an website online allowing users to create and share their ideas with the
use of an animated 3D presentation.
 With the use of different templates, the user can adapt and create a presentation
suited to them. As it is also animated users can make information displayed more
presentable and condense lengthy word documents into visual diagrams, videos
pictures etc.
PREZI
During the evaluation stages, I created a Prezi stating which
social networking sites I have used during the creation and
feedback of my promotional package.
During research stages, I created a Prezi identifying who my target
audience where this allowed me to really find out who my target
audience where and how by finding out who they really where I
could make my promotional package appeal to them more.
 Go! Animate is a website
allowing users to make short
animated videos with short
speech.
 It allows users to add music,
characters and scenarios to
display information.
 When making my music video
and ancillary texts, I created a
go animate to help me gain
some audience feedback about
my music video. With the use
of this I was able to
understand what my target
EVALUATION
 YouTube was a useful way to upload
different drafts of my music video and
allowed them to be viewed by the mass
scale of users on YouTube. It also allowed
my music video to be viewed from a
audiences perspective rather then my own.
Also due to YouTube being one of the most
used internet video sharing websites it
means that with the use of web 2.0 and
social interaction, users are able to
comment on my videos and apply changes
to my music video overall benefitting my
product.
Powerpoint/Slideshare
 Again during the evaluation stages,
Powerpoint was my main source of
displaying my information as I am
collectively putting all my start to finish
process together. This means that it is still
possible to import images and present my
information more visually. The powerpoints
I have made are then uploaded onto slide
share so that they can be embed onto my
blog but still be viewed in a powerpoint
format.

  • 1. How Did You Use Media Technologies in the Construction, Research, Planning and Evaluation Stages? Robyn Gibson
  • 2. Research  During the progress of creating my advanced portfolio, research was a key part which enabled me to collect vast amounts of information on various different products. This allowed me to develop my products as I was able to find the forms and conventions of each individual element of creating my promotional package.
  • 3.  I often used blogger to research existing media blogs created by previous students at my college. By looking at their blogs it allowed me to find different ways to research on the internet what I wanted to include onto my blog. This also helped me to plan my own ideas and further contributing to making my advanced portfolio.
  • 4. Youtube  When initially researching into the music genre I wanted to choose to create my music video, I accessed YouTube to look at exisiting music videos. This was useful as when I decided to analyse three different music videos in my chosen genre, the recommended for you toolbar gave me options to find more music in the indie folk genre.
  • 5.  Google- the online search engine was essential to create my advanced portfolio as I was able to research existing products via web 2.0. Also by searching key words or elements such as ‘indie folk’ or ‘indie music’ I was able to find very specific images/website links directing me straight to the research I wanted. Also as Google is an extremely successful search engine, the majority of information I needed would have been easily found.
  • 6. Slideshare  Slideshare was an useful technology to use during the planning stages of making my products as it allowed me to transfer power point presentations into slideshows so that they could be easily viewable on my blog. This meant that I could collectively put all my ideas together and then present them in this format rather then a presentation.
  • 7. Microsoft Powerpoint  When planning on how I was going to construct my promotional package, I used PowerPoint as it allowed me to develop my ideas further as it was possible to import many different images,movies,sounds which essentially made my plans clearer to read and more organised.
  • 8. Blogger  During the production the main use of blogger was to document the development of my ideas. Allowing me to embed various different media forms making my information more clearly presented but also more visual then simply text.  Blogger also allowed me to add polls so that I could ask my target audience their favourite type of music and were they bought their music this allowed me to interact online with my peers and audience market.
  • 9. BLOGGER By using Blogger, during the research stages I was able to research existing media blogs from my college, allowing me to see what previous students had created for their advanced portfolios. This was really useful, as it allowed me to see how they had found their research and planning, opening up more ideas and concepts for me to use.
  • 10. Tripod/Video Camera  During the construction of my music video, I used a camera and tripod to film my music video. The tripod allowed the shots to be more stable and avoided the clips being distorted or not aligned correctly. It also prevented shaking of the camera if I decided to use it handheld. The video camera and tripod used was one booked out from college. And used a memory card to save the clips, this was quite useful to use as it meant that I could just import the clips onto my computer rather then a traditional format of using tape.
  • 11.  Dafont is an online font website where artists can allow other users to use their fonts.  I found Dafont useful when creating my ancillary texts as it allowed me to research different fonts that would fit well within my target genre but also on my digipak and website designs. As you can see, when researching I came up with several name ideas and decided which font would suit the name best. DAFONT
  • 12.  Prezi is an website online allowing users to create and share their ideas with the use of an animated 3D presentation.  With the use of different templates, the user can adapt and create a presentation suited to them. As it is also animated users can make information displayed more presentable and condense lengthy word documents into visual diagrams, videos pictures etc. PREZI During the evaluation stages, I created a Prezi stating which social networking sites I have used during the creation and feedback of my promotional package. During research stages, I created a Prezi identifying who my target audience where this allowed me to really find out who my target audience where and how by finding out who they really where I could make my promotional package appeal to them more.
  • 13.  Go! Animate is a website allowing users to make short animated videos with short speech.  It allows users to add music, characters and scenarios to display information.  When making my music video and ancillary texts, I created a go animate to help me gain some audience feedback about my music video. With the use of this I was able to understand what my target
  • 14. EVALUATION  YouTube was a useful way to upload different drafts of my music video and allowed them to be viewed by the mass scale of users on YouTube. It also allowed my music video to be viewed from a audiences perspective rather then my own. Also due to YouTube being one of the most used internet video sharing websites it means that with the use of web 2.0 and social interaction, users are able to comment on my videos and apply changes to my music video overall benefitting my product.
  • 15. Powerpoint/Slideshare  Again during the evaluation stages, Powerpoint was my main source of displaying my information as I am collectively putting all my start to finish process together. This means that it is still possible to import images and present my information more visually. The powerpoints I have made are then uploaded onto slide share so that they can be embed onto my blog but still be viewed in a powerpoint format.
