1. HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES
IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH,
PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES ?
2. USE OF MEDIA IN THE CONSTRUCTION STAGE
There has been many different media technologies used to help me construct my final
video. I first started using iMovie as it was the only movie editor on my laptop at home so
I can use it anytime without waiting, iMovie was very simple and easy to use but was
limited to what can be done when trying to edit in a fine way. I moved onto premier pro to
edit my video as it was a more professional software and had a larger range of editing
tools that can be added to give my video a better effect. To create my digital and poster I
used photo shop as it is the best in the market for photo editing, the use of this
technology helped me build my ancillary tasks in a high quality manor but in a swift user
friendly form.
3. HOW MEDIA HAD AN EFFECT ON
CONSTRUCTION
All these media technologies had there fair effect on my final project as when trying
to sync the lyrics with iMovie it was very hard and limited to how close you can get it
to sync, but where as on premier pro being able to add fine touches and movements
helped me bring my video together and make it look more professional and not out
of sync. The different effects and transactions where limited on iMovie and some
where not professional enough to use for my video to help it challenge real media
videos, where as premier pro allowed me to play with the transactions and how fast
they faded to give me a more flexible approach to how I wanted my video to be.
Photoshop was hard to use at the start as small errors had a large impact on how
the final piece would look, but after a while it got more user friendly, but heavily time
consuming to get what I wanted. This media technology was very fine to detail and
allowed me to tweak even the smallest pixel on my ancillary's to give me the finest
product I can produce.
4. USE OF MEDIA IN THE RESEARCH STAGE
I have used a few media technologies to help me with my research, I have used sites
such as spotify and sound cloud as they help me listen to rap music and understand
what types of lyrics they use and how they advertise there music in different ways to
attract different consumers. YouTube gave me an idea of what type of videos major
artists make and also allowed me to compare them to small unsigned artists to see the
difference in quality and style of videos to allow me to get a better understanding of
what type of video I am aiming for in my genre. I also visited different rappers websites
e.g. twitter, Facebook and even there personal websites which allowed me to
understand a bit more about the rap genre and what inspires them.
5. HOW MEDIA HAD AN EFFECT ON RESEARCH
YouTube as a major video distributor had a large impact on my research as it
helped me analyze existing music videos by top artists. I had a look into the style of
videos rappers did and how they came across in the videos, which helped me
understand the different aspects and props needed to make a successful rap video.
I also compared main stream rap to underground rap and how they both came
across in there videos which influenced me to mix both styles together and make a
hard hitting rap video but still with the conventions of expensive cars etc. I used
sound cloud and spotify as it had feedback of consumers which allowed me to
understand what type of lyrical content they would prefer and also what they
thought of certain styles of rap songs. This told me people preferred the old deep
lyrics compared to what we hear today.
6. USES OF MEDIA IN THE PLANNING STAGE
When doing my planning I used a few media technologies to help plan how I would execute
my final video. I used voki to help plan what type of consumer would watch my music video
and the mean age and sex of consumers who mainly listen to rap music, I also used prezi to
help build timelines and scripts to use as a guideline when going out to film my videos.
YouTube played a large part in planning as it helped give me ideas from existing media
videos that I could use in my own media to give it a professional look. Voki and prezi where
used to help build a structure for my planning as it helped give me a path to follow and
consider when building my media project.
7. HOW MEDIA HAD AN EFFECT ON PLANNING
The different media technologies had a major effect on how I went on to building my final video.
Voki played a major roll in what I was aiming for in my music video as it gave me an idea of what
type of consumer I was aiming my video at, meaning trying to make a video that would please
this type of consumer and allow them to watch it. Voki gave me a path to follow when
considering what style of shots and props to use, as using expensive products and showing a
hard life is something most young kids will understand and feel connected to in some way.
Using prezi to build timelines where very helpful as it gave me a path to follow when going out to
video my shots, as having the plan to look back on allowed me to get on with shots much quicker
then just making it up as I go. The timeline helped guide my shot types and gave me a ruff story
to follow when considering different shot types to help emphasize on the emotions in those
shots, it also helped build a shot list for me to refer to every time I went to take a shot, helping
me choose the correct shot type for the scene. YouTube played a major roll through out my
media observation as it helped me get an idea from existing music videos and allowed me to add
and challenge how artists have made videos in my own media.
8. USE OF MEDIA IN THE EVALUATION STAGE
I have used different media technologies to help with the evaluation and feedback process of
my video. I have used whatsapp to gain feedback from close friends to see what they think of
the video as whatsapp is a narrow chat engine with contacts you already have. I have used a
video blog where I go around and ask people what they think about my video as this gives me a
open understanding of what people think of my video as a consumer and also you can see
which type of people prefer my music video compared to others e.g. dress sense, sex, age etc.
I have also used Facebook as a media technologies as it gives me an open feedback from
many different types of people who consume other genre of videos other then rap. It gives me a
mix feedback of what they like and how I can alter my video to make it an open genre. I have
also used prezis and audio clips to help narrate an evaluation of how my media project got on
and slides of what was considered when making my video and what inspired me.
9. HOW MEDIA HAD AN EFFECT ON THE
EVALUATION
Different medias have had there effect on the out come of feedback I have gained in my
evaluation. What's app allowed me to gain a strong feedback from close friends as they
gave me a more productive answer when watching my video. A video blog allowed me to
see peoples reaction after watching my video and also gain a real time answer of how they
felt about my video, this was a good way to understand what I could do better next time and
also what type of people enjoyed my media more. The down side to this was a lot of people
where camera shy and did not prefer to be on video so I couldn’t get much feedback from
them in person. Using Facebook was the least responsive way to gain feedback as
comments where minimal and did not give much feedback on how I could change or gain to
challenge real media conventions. Using prezi and audio clips allowed me to give a more
interactive way to show my understanding of feedback and my project as a whole, this
allowed my evaluation to be more first person and interactive.
10. DIFFERENT MEDIAS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN
USED IN THE SECTORS
Different medias such as final cut could have been used to edit the clips when
constructing the video as it is easy to use much like iMovie but also has all the
features of premier pro. A research media to consider is Wikipedia and researching
more into the rapper through there personal twitter, as it has all you need to know
about the artists and what influences them to make there music videos, also other
songs they have made with other artists which allows me to get a vast majority of
different types of videos that have been made by rappers in different rolls so it can
be applied to my own work. When planning my ideas I could have used publisher to
mind map different ideas an conventions I can use in my video to make it look more
professional, and also use excel to design a router to plan what days I would be
filming so my cast and myself can be ready and organized. Using sites such as
survey monkey would have been a good way to get more feedback from consumers
when doing my evaluation, also spreading the video and allowing people to
comment on YouTube so I can get direct feedback from people all over the world.
