2. Image 1: Figurehead of front cover
For the first image of my magazine, as elaborated upon when justifying my mood-board, I will be using an individual aged 23
of a similar physical stature to that of “The Game”, of a white ethnicity not only to exaggerate the diversity of the ethnicities
involved at the peak of the hi-hop industry, but bring about a physicality which appeals to both genders; males in the sense
that they look up to achieving such a stature whether be it physicality or their standard of rap, whilst the females will observe
this image with an intrigued attitude in the figurehead solely. The physical stature also brings about an iconography of
someone who sheds confidence in their appearance, bringing about literal “strong” implications that their introduction into
the world of hip-hop is a must read when considering the swagger they’re bound to go about their work with. This
photograph will be taken during the course of the day time to appeal to the idea of high key lighting, whereby the
connotations of the rapper are based in a “bright” light of that of a free-flowing, high moral individual with high moral levels
and positive topics to rap about which will be of people’s best interests. The photo will be taken with a white background
included as the connotations of a white background are pure, truthfulness and blank spaces, with the idea of blank spaces
being filled up by the figurehead for the majority of the front cover composition-wise to give off an inference that the rapper
is the missing piece in the jigsaw. Taking the picture in the sense of a candid pose would suggest that the rapper isn’t up to
the billing of the occasion, with this suggesting they’re vulnerable and lacking the competitiveness in the rap game, whereas
using a photograph which expresses them to have a certain pose about them implies they’re ready for whatever is thrown
their way in terms of other rappers likewise the paparazzi e.g. rappers face criticism and controversy when considering some
of the tracks they put out, hence why this pose entails the readiness associated with a rapper who shows no fear. This
individual will be wearing a short sleeve top so that their physique isn’t concealed from the females who want to compliment,
jeans with a stylish belt maybe of an everyday film like batman to express how they can identify with the everyday world,
hence anchoring to their rapping ideology, whilst the casual compilation of clothing will tell the world that they aren’t
concerned about putting their inherent styles of rapping and fashion out there. Lastly, they’ll wield a pose of folded arms to
suggest that they aren’t fazed by the pressure of being the next best rapper in the world as the media suggests.

stories
The individual that will be photographed in this instance will be a 16 year old as I will be looking to invoke a sense of what sort
of artists rap will revolve around in the future. They’ll be of this age as some teenagers are often portrayed in the media as
people who have no overruling aspects of what life is about, hence why a younger person making a positive impact may
influence a struggling few of this social group to become better people, via the messages each song has to give out. The
gender choice will be pro-dominantly male again as this gender makes major inroads in this industry, whereas females are
more associated with the genre of hip-hop, rather than having a well known nature in the hip hop industry. The photograph
will be taken of an individual sitting on the sofa chilling in a posed manner towards the camera to express the confidence and
guile associated with what people should be when trying to progress in life one way or another, rather than a naturalistic pose
which would dampen their up- rise to fame. Eye contact will be key as it expresses the view of one of many young talents who
intend to get their points across to the media, and will fall under a half high, half low key of lighting with; the low effect
suggesting they used to be unknown to people who listen to music of the hip-hop genre, whilst the use of a high-key will
suggest that their name will be remembered instantly after this article is read, be it through an interview, autobiography etc.
Also, by making the composition pro-dominantly low key to start off with, and then slowly allowing the target audience to
work their way up the y-axis of the page, which will have a bright glimmer of white lighting at the top of the screen, will bring
about a sense of freshness of this 16 year old, whereby the darker colour on the lower spectrums of the composition will
elaborate upon how people of this age group will always witness dark times and the typical stresses of being an adolescent,
yet the usage of higher-lighting on this page will imply that this rapper has endured such times, and is ready to share their
stories and ideals with the world despite the torrid times they may have endured. The individual will wear chains and a
hoodie as a hoodie connotes the need for being wanted for the wrong reasons, yet seen as this rapper is intending to bring
about a positive mood, this is subverted to being a blessed talent in the particularly trade and wanted for all the right reasons,
whilst their chains for such a young age will bring about implications that they can “afford” to compete in such a high standard
of music.

of an experienced rapper performing live.
This individual will be a male aged between 26-30 not only to appeal to the voting of my questionnaire, but people
within the industry at this age connote feelings of a mature state of mind and a well known endeavour to succeed
within the music industry as people of this age usually hit their peak around 5 years after announcing their presence
within the music industry. E.g. Eminem created his first album at the age of 25 and become extremely well known
singles like “the way I am” at the age of 30, hence given rappers of this marginalisation more of an edge when it
comes to appeal to the target audience. This person will be given a live-style pose whereby the individual is seen to
be performing a freestyle or a live performance perhaps to exemplify their level of experience as opposed to other
people of a younger age group like the 16 year old I previously pointed out, who may be an average street-rapper as
expressed on negative videos created by negative influences who’re involved in crime, hence why this reaches a
target audience who are more intrigued on how people at the prime of their game are doing. The lighting will be of a
high-key as their career is in the limelight as this age connotes feelings of the definition of primetime, meaning that if
they’re one of the biggest names in the game, a low-key lighting will be of a huge disposition to them when
considering lighting of that state connotes a sense of negativity about them. The background will therefore have to be
colours which connote a heavenly state like gold and white as rappers at the top of the game face feeble criticisms,
but not to the extent that applies the brake on their confidence, hence why these colours will help exaggerate how
not many are as perfect in getting their words across in the rap game. To anchor to the purpose of helping the rapper
stand-out in this background, the person being photographed should wear colours as far from the colour white as
possible as thee general cliché is that “opposites attract”, which will help the audience match this rapper to the
background that suggests there are as good as they come. E.g. Wearing any top of a contrasting standard would help
identify them as a phenomenon for their own unique reason.
5. Image 4: Image for contents page of a veteran of this genre who has
many fans within the target audience who remember he history of
his music
The individual who will occupy the age group of 30 plus, or in other words your typical role-model like Eminem, will appeal
to a larger target audience as without some sense of the old genre of hip-hop, the magazine will promote too much
freshness whilst not remembering some of the talents like Tupac Shakur and Biggie smalls who inspired such talents, hence
why the older generation are not to feel excluded from the topics discussed in my magazine. As expressed on my mood
board, artists such as these sparked a whole range of talent around them, and were pivotal in helping the hip-hop genre
progress to the extent that it has today. Therefore, leaving out the origin of such a widespread genre Is almost an insult to
the target audience as if to point them out as un-intelligent generation who know nothing of such a genre, which would
defy the values expressed by my mood board that specifies all people as “individuals who like to learn new things”, hence
why including the older generation is essential. It will be taken under a lower key to express how the individual’s time at the
peak is imminently due to end to allow for the other discussed generations to be mentored through, whilst the
connotations of a dimmed lighting exaggerates upon how they face criticism for their slower paced linguistics due to the
strains of age, yet the audience are aware of their talent over the years and would read such a cover-line with the
assumption that their depreciation is wrong, hence prompting them to read the story. The background will be set in a
peaceful environment to imply that although their career is nearly finished, their everyday goings on are yet to be made
public, which may interest the older generation who take a fancy to people’s life stories. Wearing an old cap would be one
prop I would utilize for this as it resembles a rapper who hasn’t changed as he’s got older, but stuck true to his
representation in the media.
