This presentation is part of the online TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment course offered by Fortress Learning.
Fortress Learning's TAE program is based on the belief that every student is unique. Each student has an individual program tailored to reflect their prior learning, current situation, future goals and their preferred learning style. There are many different techniques that can be used to guide individual learning. Trainers may become comfortable with a particular technique and should be careful not to fall into a rut using it.
The learner needs should determine the type of technique used. Common techniques include: - formal or informal processes - an ongoing or one-off process - specific circumstance or an integrated feature of the overall learning process - coaching, mentoring, and tutoring techniques - peer relationships - matching experienced workers with learners
Case studies can be used to: identify differences and alternative options; practise and apply learning, problem-solving, and decision-making; and develop analytical skills, team work, and self-discovery.
Critical incidents are useful for developing analytical skills, problem-solving, and decision-making.
Demonstrations help development of psychomotor and interpersonal skills, processes, procedures, workflow, practise and application of learning.
Discussions deepen understanding, focus on a specific issue, identify differences and alternative options, process review, vent frustration or anger, or develop arguments.
Question and answer sessions can be used in all learning situations.
Readings build background or specific information, develop arguments, and develop analytical skills.
Simulations help practise and apply learning, self-analysis, and skills development.
The planning for evaluation is best achieved when meeting the individual learner’s needs. This might involve: - a formal evaluation tool quantifiable measures such as: increased productivity or achievement of new skills - level of attendance and - critical feedback from the learner and others.
