Reflection unit 2
1. Reflection Unit 2
In Unit 2, I comprehended that there are several types of rubric to use
when assessing students performance. Rubrics such as: Checklists, which are
good to indicate what students can or cannot do, that they are not used to indicate
the quality of a product or performance. They are dichotomous; Analytic rubrics
have specific dimensions of the construct being measured, the Criteria is in series
of 4 to 6 performance level, they indicate the quality that a product or performance
should have, they are very detailed; holistic rubrics scores the overall process or
product as a whole. It focuses on the quality, proficiency, understanding of specific
content, teachers have a quicker scoring process, they are usually used in
summative assessment; rating scales expresses the degree of how skills,
competencies, strategies or language functions are performed, they have range of
frequency (always, sometimes, never), range of quality (great, good, awful) and
they are not so reliable.
Rubrics should be known by the raters beforehand. They should be
tested before a real assessment. Also test takers should know the rubrics
dimension so they know what to do in the assessing process.
