• You must be a fully-qualified electrician to be
a Gaffer, with relevant City & Guilds or
electrical engineering qualifications at HND.
• That is where you can complete the course
and you would have needed to have gone to
college or completed relevant tests.
4. The route in
• Your most likely route would be to start out as
a lighting electrician, progressing to become a
Best Boy, and then becoming a Gaffer. To
become a lighting electrician, you could start
as a general electrician and then gain the
necessary health and safety training and
electrical qualifications.
