1. EVALUATION QUESTION TWO IS : HOW
EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR
MAIN PRODUCT AND YOUR ANCILLARY TEXTS?
TO GIVE DETAILED EXPLANATIONS OF HOW EFFECTIVE I THINK MY MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TEXTS
ARE, I NEED TO DISCUSS THE COMMON THEMES I HAVE THROUGHOUT MY TEXT AND PRODUCT. IN THE NEXT
FEW SLIDES I WILL BE DISCUSSING THE LIST OF THINGS I FELT WERE IMPORTANT TO THINK ABOUT IN
ORDER TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION.
Evaluation question two:
planning.
2. THEMES
The themes and narratives of our main product
were all about the aspects of having fun and
enjoying a summer with your friends.
We made this a common theme into our
ancillary texts. Though we used the artists for
our ancillary texts we felt the theme was
continued. The costumes and colour
connotations used in our music video were
shown in our ancillaries linking both our main
product and ancillary texts together, enphasising
the themes we chose to use.
3. FONTS
We played with multiple different font types whilst deciding which to use
in our ancillary texts and main products. In our product we have chosen
to not include any added text during our editing process as we felt it
would change the atmosphere of our video and make it less interesting
to watch.
However we have used text in our ancillary texts. On our magazine
advert we chose to use a simple text placed in the middle of the page on
top of the artist. To make the text more interesting we made one word
white and one word black we felt like this drew more attention to the
name of the artist without taking away from the bright summer felt
image. We also used text to advertise the social networking sites that
Icona Pop have already created. Though the text isn't a link through out
our main product and ancillary text we felt that both are still as effective.
We feel this because adding text to our main product would change the
way we want it to come across and become less effective to our target
audience but we felt including text on our ancillary products was vital.
4. IMAGES AND COLOUR THEME.
Throughout our music video and ancillary packs we have
included bright and exciting colours to create a summer feel. We
didn't choose to add a filter on our music video as we didn't want
to make it look too edited so that the hand held, home video effect
would still be relevant. Therefore we chose to show the colours
through the clothing and the shots we used. The majority of the
shots show brightly clothed people or colourful tents in the back
ground of what is being shown. There is also multiple shots of
when the sky is a stereotypical summer blue. We had to be
careful with how we framed some of the shots as we didn't want
to include to much of the weather when it was gloomy. As there
wasn't too much we could do about it as we didn't want the shots
to seem too organised we used a lot of the same shot to keep
repeating the sunny sky idea.
5. CONVENTIONS OF THE ARTIST AND OF THE
GENRE.
Whilst thinking about how effective my main product and ancillary texts was I
thought about the conventions that make up a pop group like Icona Pop.
These conventions are true to most pop groups and are relevant to Icona Pop.
The artists are both clothed in fashionable and stylish outfits.
The artists are portrayed as happy and joyful.
The lyrics are normally based around love or relationships. In this case the
relationship is a friendship between the two band members.
Often the artists in question express a unity associated with teens as this is the
target audience Pop genres aim their music at. In our case Icona Pop have
included travelling and music festivals which are stereotypically on the bucket list
of a teenager.
Advertisement done by pop groups is often themed with bright and bold colours
which are normally associated with a positive vibe. In our ancillaries and main
product we have chosen to do that as it is visually intriguing
The actual song track lasts 3-5 minutes with set structure and consistent beat.
Our music video and ancillary texts consist of all of the above, including conventions
of pop throughout all our products creates a unity between them making the
work more effective as it has more of an obvious goal for the audience to enjoy
them.
