Types of invertebrates

  1. 1. SPONGES •Have irregular bodies and no symmetry •They cannot move around. They attached themselves to rocks. •They filter the seawater and retain the nutrive substances for food.
  2. 2. CNIDARIANS •Have jelly-like bodies with radial symetry. •They have tentacles which can sting you. •They are marine animals. •Some attach to rocks and others can move.
  3. 3. WORMS •They have soft bodies with bilateral symmetry. •Some are cylindrical, others are flat. •Some are acuatics, others are terrestrial. •Many are parasites.
  4. 4. ECHINODERMS •Have five-way symetry. Have a skeleton madeof hard plates often with spines. •They are covered by a thin skin. •All are marine animals.
  5. 5. ARTHROPODS •Have bilateral symetry. •Their bodies are totally covered by an articulate exoeskeleton like armour. • The exoeskeleton moults in a process called moulting. •They have antenna and eyes, simples o compounds( thousands of smaller simpler eyes. •Some are acuatic others are terrestial.
  6. 6. ARTHROPODS GROUPS Are divide into four groups Insects ,Arachnid, crustaceans and myriapods 1.- INSECTS: a. Their body have three parts: Head, thorax an abdomen. b. The heads have two eyes, mouth and two antennae. c. They have six legs d. Some have wings e. They live in diferents habitats and eat diferents types of foods. f. They produce substances some are useful others are harmful. 2.- ARACHNIDS: a. Their body have two parts: abdomen and cephalothorax. b. They have eight legs c. Most are terrestial d. Some are carnivorous.
  7. 7. 3.- CRUSTACEANS: a. They have ten legs, two paris of antennae anc compound eyes. b. The body have two parts: abdomen and cephalothorax. c. Most are aquatic. 4.- MYRIAPODS: a. Have longs bodies made up of identical segments. b. Each segment have one or two pairs of legs. c. The head have a pair of short antennae
  8. 8. MOLLUSC •Have soft body with bilateral symetry •Many are covered with one or two shell. •More are aquatic, and a few live on land
  9. 9. Molusc groups There are three groups: Gastropods, bivalves and cephalopods GASTROPODS: They have four tentacles with the senses organs in the head. They have a single foot. They are herbivores. Some are aquatics but a lot of them are terrestial. They have a spiral shell BIVALVES: They have two articulated valves. Some move around, others attach themselves to rocks. They filters salt water to obtain food CEPHALOPODS: Tey have eight or ten tentacles. They are marine. Expel jets of water to move. They are carnivorous
