2. What is Artifactual Communication
Messages conveyed through
objects or arrangements of
objects made by human
hands.
It includes how we decorate
the space around us, the
clothing we wear and other
parts of our physical
appearance such as jewelry,
tattoos and body piercings.

3. Keep in mind
Remember that just like all other types of communication, there is always potential for
misinterpretation. The intended and interpreted message can always vary due to numerous
factors we can’t always be aware of.

4. Something to think about
• As humans become more materialistic does the potential for artifactual communication
become greatened as well as the impact it has, due to us placing more value on these
things and the messages they can convey?

Dissonance
Relatable artifactual communication can
lead to reduced cognitive dissonance, on
the other hand, artifactual
communication can raise dissonance if
the messages they communicate are
received with negative experience.

6. Clothing
Clothing communicates your
cultural and subcultural
affiliations.
People make assumptions on
you based off what you’re
wearing
These
assumptions influence how
people think of you and how
they react to you.
Clothing leads to assumptions
pertaining to your attitude,
your social class, how serious
you are, your sense of style
itself and how aware you are
of the situations you are in
