2. Definition
A landslide or landslip is a geological
phenomenon which includes a wide range of ground
movement, such as rockfalls, deep failure of slopes
and shallow debris flows, which can occur in
offshore, coastal and onshore environments.
3. Causes
The causes of
landslides are usually
related to instabilities in
slopes.
It is usually possible to
identify one or more
landslide causes and one
landslide trigger.
The difference between
these two concepts is subtle
but important.
