The Waynewood I Force Main Rehabilitation Project rehabilitated roughly 700 feet of aging asbestos cement force main piping servicing the Waynewood I pump station through cured-in-place pipe lining. This minimally invasive lining method required only small excavations. The project also installed an emergency bypass vault, relocated overhead utility lines underground, and improved site access. Completed in December 2020, the improvements are expected to increase the force main's lifespan by 50 years and reduce risks of sanitary sewer overflows.

Description:
The Waynewood I sewer pump station and its forcemain were built in the late 1950s. This project included the
rehabilitation, by cured-in-place pipe lining, of roughly 700-feet of 8” forcemain made from asbestos cement pipe. The
lining method presented less disturbance to the community compared to full replacement, as only minimal excavation
was required. Two relatively small pits were excavated to access portions of the existing forcemain. A temporary sewer
by-pass system was set up to convey flow during the lining. A permanent emergency by-pass vault was installed near the
pump station, and the overhead power and communication feed to the pump station was re-routed through an
underground conduit. The improvements are expected to increase the useful life of the force main by at least 50-years
and reduce the risk of sanitary sewer overflows at the pump station. This project was substantially complete on
December 9, 2020.
Project Overview:
- Rehabilitated the sewer forcemain using a Cured-in-Place-Pipe (CIPP) Lining method
- Installed a new emergency by-pass connection to the sewer pressure pipe and constructed an underground vault to
house the valves
- Relocated overhead power and communication cables to the pump station to underground for safety and reliability
- New access road and related site improvements
