Project Background & Need
6
• Neighborhood was built in the 1950s,
and the sewer infrastructure and pump
station has been in operation since.
• Aged pump station equipment – pumps,
valves, fans, concrete, etc.
• This aging equipment has the potential
of causing:
– Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSO)
– Sewer back-ups into homes
– Environmental damages
– Maintenance problems

Study Phase - 2020 Technical Memorandum (TM)
Capital Facilities – Wastewater Design and Construction Division – Collections Branch 9
• Evaluated existing conditions – flow analysis,
hydraulic assessment, construction impacts,
pump station assessment
• Evaluated alternatives – rehabilitate existing
pump station, relocate the pump station, or
convey all flow by gravity
– Criteria used: Life cycle cost, community
impacts, constructability, operability,
reliability.
• Recommended Alternative:
– Alternative A: Demolish pump station and
convey flow by gravity along Pioneer
Drive
